Power Grab: RNC Passes Rule Giving Itself Power To Change Any Rule Without Delegate Vote

BuzzFeed - TAMPA — The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 to approve a new rule allowing granting the Republican National Committee — and Mitt Romney — sweeping new powers to amend the governing document of the GOP.

The move came at the encouragement of Mitt Romney supporters on the committee, including Romney's top lawyer Ben Ginsberg, who stressed that it would grant "flexibility" to Romney and the committee to adapt to changing political environments. The rule allows the RNC to amend the party's rules without a vote by the full Republican National Convention. And it offers the Republican Establishment a new tool to keep at by Tea Party initiatives that threaten to embarrass or contradict party leadership and stray from a planned message.

Well, won't that make our lives easier as citizens? No wasting time in real debates, no agonizing over choices, just let our betters make all the "important" decisions for us.

I know, let's all have a barbecue in our backyards, and then watch some reality shows or a football game to take our minds of this unpleasantness! Isn't that the American dream?

Nothing to see here, citizens, just a chalk outline of where liberty was strangled at the hands of our "conservative" representatives.

Time to LEAVE

The GOP is dead. We cannot be a part of such a beast anymore. It is time to LEAVE. The way ahead without a major party organization through which to work will be difficult, sure. But at this point not another cent, not another minute, not another ounce of energy should be wasted on this behemoth.

Time to form a third party. I'm finally on board.

It's interesting some now like the new party idea

Just several weeks ago I got downvoted for it (when I dared to discuss the idea just for the case the attempts to nominate Ron Paul would be unsuccessful due to party shenanigans). A colleague ashleyjean78 got downvoted for the idea just one week ago.

The idea definitely isn't new see for example here.

Now the idea starts to get positive votes here. Which I find very good, because while I'm quite pessimistic about the possibility Ron Paul could be nominated at the RNC, there's definitely a potential among Ron Paul supporters to form a new party.

There's also the example of John B. Anderson in 1980, who despite his unsuccessful GOP candidacy then successfully got on the ballot in all states as independent.

Ron Paul has now the popularity definitively at least comparable with the popularity of John B. Anderson in 1980. Moreover Ron Paul has a grassroot support which in my opinion would be able to form a national party.

So why not?

- You have everything needed - a credible leader, major platform -clearly very different from the platforms of the major parties both in the realms of domestic and foreign policies, supporters all over the country, exceptional ability to rise money, exceptional ability to use the alternative media as internet not only for publicity but also for selforganization using hi-tech communication instruments, which are quite new and unknown back in 1980's, exceptional ability to peacefuly takeover whole state GOP organizations -despite all the obstacles and foul play, sometimes violent, from the establishment which now tryies hard to purge the duly elected Ron Paul delegations, and last but not least Ron Paul unlike John B. Anderson in 1980 is known all over the world, because the conservatives and libertarians all over the world see him and especially his ideas as major hope for american and generally global politics...
(I in central Europe definitely since at least like 2007 when I started to cover Ron Paul in the Czech Republic, almost nobody in general population knew him - although our president invited Ron Paul to Prague for the long speech about Austrian economics already back in 2006 - and now Ron Paul ideas and movement is a major topic of discussions among conservatives and libertarians in the Czech Republic and I don't doubt it is simmilar in all western countries)

The potential definitely is there awaiting people to take it up - will freedom-loving Americans dare?

Yeah it is loads of work to form a succcessfull new party, especially in the hostile environment of the "onetwoparty" system in the USA, but isn't the saving free America and therefore free world worth it?

I decided that

several months ago. After November, even if the GOP comes to their senses and lets Ron Paul in, I will be registering as Libertarian or something else. If enough people leave the GOP they will become a minor player, an have only themselves to blame.
Of course, I seem to recall that the NAZI party in Germany was a minor party at one time.

I had posted in another thread yesterday

That we should stay on the path and continue to take GOP seats, stick to the game plan and eventually take over the GOP as planned. Now, with this new rule passed, that seems impossible. I think now the others on that thread were right. Maybe it is time for our own new party...the New Republican party!

As per my comments on Buzzfeed

A Stalinist move by a Stalinist Party who chose a Stalinist candidate. Reminds me of Party conventions of old. Moscow 1951 for instance. http://ian56.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/the-stalinists-rnc-repub...

May the GOP wither and die and BURN with the scale of their impending defeat. The easier it will be to rebuild bottom up or replace. The loss in November WILL be very heavy, make it more so. http://ian56.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/message-to-gop-incumbent...

Breaking the rules again?!'??,.;:;

If delegates had that power before how did they lose it? If delegates didnt give it to Mitt and RNC then Mitt and RNC STOLE those powers from delegates...

Prays to GOD and Ron Paul

Prays to GOD and Ron Paul himself! That he runs 3rd party or joins a ticket.

Ron Paul 2016

Yeah but wouldn't THAT rule have to be approved by the

Convention first?

Or are they just simply going to ignore ALL of the rules and turn it into a self appointed oligarchy?

Romney: Let the Lawyers sort out What to Do!

We are now witnessing in practice what Romney meant by in this famous 2007-2008 cycle debate video: Ron Paul - "Read the Constitution!":

Romney: "You sit down with your attorneys and [they] tell you what you have to do....We will let the lawyers sort out what the president needs to do and what he needs not to do.

Ron Paul: "This idea of going to and talking to attorneys absolutely baffles me; why don't we just open up the Constitution and read it."

What is happening here now with The Republican National Convention Rules Committee is similar to this exchange between Romney and Paul back in 2007-2008. What's happening now with RNC is a glimpse of what kind of Romney Presidency will be like.

For Romney it is not about following the Constitution or the Rules of GOP, but what the lawyers sort out and then they tell him what he needs to do. He is just a puppet as we all already know. It's all about the Special Interest Groups and their Lawyers (their Ministers).

For Ron Paul and RP supporters its all about understanding of the Rules of the Game and then playing by them as skillfully as possible.

Do you support Romney now? How could you now?

This is your chance to maybe redeem yourself. When it comes your time to speak at the convention, if you don't condemn this action to high hell then you represent EVERYTHING that we are against.

No one cares about dancing with the devil to get what you want because the devil wants more than a dance and will take it against your will if you're foolish enough to dance with him.

They're going to feel Rand out on this....

and if he doesn't play along, they're going to give his slot to someone else. I hope he's smart enough to make them comfortable, then sucker punch them hard.

Who rules these rule makers?

Has there ever been a time when either party's convention has been run by any more brazen tyrants than this sorry lot of neo-conservatives?

I challenge any and all of them to justify their actions by any historical political doctrine, other than the divine right of kings, of course.

"Flexibility", to these clowns, means allowing these petty puppeteers to do to the Constitution what they did to these rules we were appointed to serve.

Tell me the RP campaign has something up it's sleeve for this crap! WHERE IS RON PAUL IN ALL OF THIS? WHY ISN'T HE FIGHTING FOR US? Don't thumb me down for asking this. I really want to know why he isn't front and center right now. I have donated lots of money to this fight and am a follower big time. Where is he in all of this?

I agree but....

give him a day or two. This just happened and missed the weekly news cycle. We should hear something Monday.

Can anyone be surprised at any of this?

No one who is a member of this site can be the slightest bit shocked or surprised by this. These people do not know the meaning of words such as honor or integrity. If you find a way to win while playing the game by their rules they will simply change the rules. Just like Vegas…the house always wins. I want nothing more to do with these people. They are all liars and thieves. AND the same applies to voting. It does no good whatsoever. They do the same thing at that level or stage of the game/fraud.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men and women to not support Ron Paul!

No surprise. Like getting raped or something.

so violatating. Is this a sample of just who Mitt Romney is? The face of a deeply rooted power structure. It's not about Amerika.

I was gonna

say the same thing when I saw this headline then I saw your comment and thought "This person already spoke for me" Thanks for the post. My thoughts exactly!

This is entirely crazy. This is not freedom. This is chains.

I think it's worthy of a winning lawsuit. They can't change rules after the fact. All Ron Paul contributors should be returned their campaign contributions. TIMES 4. It's fraud and it's corruption on a new level.

A check is invalid if it lacks a signature...
The delegates have not signed or voted to any such contract that would seek and enforce upon them the haunts to squelch every ounce of their duly elected power...
The RNC is practicing Isolationism...why?
They are cornered!

Lets call in the ACLU. Lets call the Federal Voting Rights Agencies. These guys have lost their minds. Usually dictators are crazy in the head. I do not blame most of the Republicans , only the foul leaders who are leading them astray.
