Independents in AZ

Secretary of State Ken Bennett announced the latest voter registration numbers for Arizona:

Total Voters: 3,100,575
Republicans: 1,113,123
Democrats: 935,098
Independent and other parties: 1,025,634

Further breakdown of other parties:

Libertarians: 21,770
Greens: 4,773
Americans Elect: 177

It would be interesting to see a liberty candidate run as an Independent, with no party affiliation, and how they might fare in Arizona (or nationally, for that matter).

For Arizonans who may not have seen this (and others as well). BTW, I know the Republican number is actually smaller, as I know quite a few who are truly Independents but have not changed their registration from Republican. A lot of Independents re-registered as Republican this Spring to vote for Dr. Paul in the primary, and haven't gotten around to making the switch back. I wonder how many Democrats are tired of their party as well, and just haven't made the switch to Independent yet? Changing your registration is very easy and can be done online at www.azsos.gov.
