NY Times: Ron Paul: "I can't fully endorse Romney"

"Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.

“It wouldn’t be my speech,” Mr. Paul said. “That would undo everything I’ve done in the last 30 years. I don’t fully endorse him for president.”

I do not fully support Romney

I do not fully support Romney either. I plan to proudly write in the good doctor. The only man to ever earn my vote. I made a promise to myself never to vote for the lesser of two evils. That just means you are giving in/up from my point of view.

What is wrong with this guy?!

"Some true believers want to "dress in black, stand on a hill and say, 'Smash the state,' said Mr. Benton..." This is not representative of Ron Paul supporters. What a bizarre thing to say. Why would he portray us like that?

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.

Benton's remark was

Benton's remark was destructive and dumb, if not a deliberate sabotage.

"Benton's remark was destructive"

Is it productive when people smear Benton on a daily basis by calling him a traitor, coward, shill, whore, neocon, liar, saboteur, spy, etc - and with no facts to supports their accusations?

Anyway, I agree with Benton. His comment was not especially tactful, but it is correct. Going out in a blaze of futile glory should not be our goal. Better to live to fight another day.

...feel free now to call me a troll, traitor, coward, shill, whore, neocon, liar, saboteur, spy or whatever other names are reserved for fellow members of the liberty movement who disagree with you on political strategy.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

Bingo

Benton is not a Ron Paul supporter, he's a neocon hack who didn't even know who Ron Paul was a few years ago. In his twisted little peabrain, Ron Paul's base is no better than Occupy and Anonymous; Benton doesn't see us as freedom-loving and patriotic conservatives and libertarians but as a threat to the status quo and the elitists who he serves.

Benton is right.

I have seen plenty of what he described coming from young turks who want to use force to get what they want when they want it, and then have foul language laced temper tantrums when Ron Paul doesn't do what they think he should. The young turks don't have enough life experience to understand that RP has reasons for everything he does, and that RP knows how to behave in a manner that is conducive to making gains in the long run. RP knows that we are in this for the long haul, that it will take many generations to turn this country around.

Benton didn't say that ALL Ron Paul supporters are this way, he said some True Believers......

Benton sucks.

He is a hireling.

"Can't Fully Support ..." is not "Will Partly Support...."

Which part of "I can't fully support Mitt Romney" says that RP even partly supports him? Answer - no part at all!!!! Ron is just being polite in understating his opposition to MR on just about every major policy!

Totally agree

Ron Paul always chooses his words with talent. He can't fully support Mitt Romney's candidacy just like he can't fully support abortion on demand paid for with tax dollars and can't fully support unaccountable private bankers freely printing fiat currency in the name of the U.S. Treasury!

Ron, Carol, Mitt and Ann are cordial at a social level. Ron doesn't dislike Mitt as far as we know. But there's no way that he thinks Mitt is an acceptable candidate for president of the United States.

i guessed this to be the case and got downvoted

for stating the reason why paul wasn't invited is most likely because he declined to endorse romney.. as for the comment that followed a few negative down-vote, i didn't even bother to read. if you don't know what ron paul is about and his consistency, quite frankly i don't even know why you hang around here. people getting excited and acting surprised here quite frankly are disgusting, rather than making others feel happy because they feel like they're singing to the choir

and this is more about ron paul's consistency rather than rand's politics-playing. ron paul speaks on his own and he's not doing this so you can use this as an example to bash his son, so f you.

Cut off

Rand's nuts too, please.

Hey GOP, where's my vote?

holy crap!

skip the tar and feathers, and go right for the nuts!

Rand is definitely an infiltrator

But I truthfully can't tell yet whether he is infiltrating the establishment for the sake of the liberty movement or infiltrating the liberty movement for the sake of the establishment. Let's continue to watch his voting record and see what pro-liberty bills he actually ushers through the senate and which anti-liberty bills he successfully kills.

So far, despite his betrayal of the RP2012 candidacy, he's been much more pro-liberty in word and deed as a senator than most of the flag-waving neocon d-bags falsely claiming to be tea party.

Take back the GOP and Restore America Now.

I'll give you that

.

Hey GOP, where's my vote?

This...and the fact that he

This...and the fact that he has not released his delegates should tell us what exactly we are suppose to do in Tampa. And the fact that they have pulled out all the stops is a strong telling that we may have already won. It was not suppose to go this far...the liberty movement was suppose to fizzle away and we were all suppose to fall in line with the rest. But the power elite has never seen such a group like us...we are keen, and sharp, and some of the most stubborn hard headed people I have ever shook hands with! We don't compromise. We are awake. And we don't give up! They are outnumbered this time and they are shaking in their pants...going as far as blatant and open fraud to stop this. Even if we lose this rigged election...Liberty was won in the hearts and minds of the people. It doesn't stop here. We must keep fighting. We will prevail! And to our delegates...our soldiers in the battlefield...I solute you!

God Bless!

I still think someone should

make a documentary about the propaganda and fruad that has taken place during this primary, to help enlighten more of the sheep.

I'll vote for Mitt

the day after I have sex with another man. (aint happening)

Well, if you ever did...

you STILL shouldn't vote for Willard, since he's against gay rights. :)

I don't play, I commission the league.

I LOVE this man

just sayin' - I LOVE Ron Paul .

THAT'S the man I support.

Character and integrity matter.

And apparently so does honoring one's conscience. :-)

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
Ron Paul - The Revolution

Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms. Ron Paul

Some may wonder

why Ron Paul does not say that he will endorse Romney in his speech, then during the speech state that he does not endorse him.
Well, that isn't principled. And we all know Ron Paul sticks to his principles! They may lie, cheat, and threaten, but Ron Paul will continue with courtesy and fairness!

Ron Paul = Political Prisioner

The lightbulb in my brain just went off after hearing Dr Paul's comment after they wanted him to trade "A full endorsement of Romney" for the opportunity to "speak at the convention." Even with this tantalizing tidbit being waved before his nose he still will NOT COMPROMISE HIS PRINCIPALS!

Ron Paul, a great statesman, a true patriot, a cherished teacher and an American REvolutionist of ideas who's time has come is no different than a political prisoner. The only thing missing is the bars on his cell. This great man is being silenced by our Marxist government, our Communist media and insanely power hungry world bankers.

I have been asking myself for the last few months "Where is Ron Paul? Dr Paul is still with us, stronger than ever and telling us by this one interview that he will NEVER compromise and he is showing us that we all have to do the same. The PTB may shove Romney or Obama into office BUT Ron Paul will always have our hearts and minds!! They can NEVER take that away from us!! His speech may not be at the Convention but rather one where he is surrounded by thousands of his supporters and it will be a speech heard around the world and the start of the movement that will bring us back to the Constitution!!!

Now THAT'S the good Dr. Paul I know and love...

...principled right up to the bitter end.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."

Why won't Ron Paul endorse Gary Johnson?

What does this story tell us about Rand Paul's speech at the convention? The speech is vetted by the Romney campaign and conditional on a full-fledged endorsement, right?

Why won't Ron Paul endorse Gary Johnson? He endorsed Chuck Baldwin over McCain in '08. Is it the abortion issue? Is it Rand Paul's prospects in the two party state? I'm no Libertarian partisan, but Johnson looks like an excellent candidate, and he's certainly much closer to Paul than Romney will ever be.

Maybe because johnson is a

Maybe because johnson is a phoney libertarian? For starters. Sort of like you being a phony RP supporter.

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good things is my religion. Thomas Paine, Godfather of the American Revolution

Gary Johnson A "phony

Gary Johnson A "phony libertarian"?!?!?!? What part of Johnson's platform isn't libertarian? He's arguably more libertarian than Ron Paul (when it comes to abortion). You are the phoney because you clearly don't understand what libertarianism is.

Unless I am mistaken, Johnson

Unless I am mistaken, Johnson has said he supports preemptive wars if they are undertaken for humanitarian purposes.

Him being ok with a central

Him being ok with a central bank is the opposite of libertarian.

I wouldn't go as far as

I wouldn't go as far as saying he's the "opposite" of libertarian. He supports an audit of the fed and competing currencies... Libertarians don't all see eye to eye on central banks... I consider myself a libertarian but I still don't want my next door neighbour tinkering around with a thermo-nuclear device in his basement. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with him parking a tank in his driveway either. So even I'm for some "arms" controls. Am I not libertarian enough? How far do I have to go? Privatize the courts? Privatize the police force? People don't understand that if you're a "freedom" or "libertarian" candidate it doesn't mean you agree with every other libertarian. It's just different degrees of freedom.... Gary Johnson wants to legalize marijuana, but not heroine. I'll take it, even if he's not as "hard core" as Ron Paul who wants to legalize everything.
