(...)In phone calls and emails to WWVA radio host David Blomquist, employees at the Century Mine in Ohio said they feared retaliation if they did not attend the Romney event.

“Yes, we were in fact told that the Romney event was mandatory and would be without pay, that the hours spent there would need to be made up my non-salaried employees outside of regular working hours, with the only other option being to take a pay cut for the equivalent time,” the employees told Blomquist. “Yes, letters have gone around with lists of names of employees who have not attended or donated to political events(...)”

Entirely mandatory and

Entirely mandatory and without pay.

These type of things - soviet style tactics that never had a place in America, have been going on a long time.

It's only with the internet that the general population of real people can say how bad they are - instead of media talking heads acting like their isn't anything morally wrong with them.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

Controversial question: How

Controversial question:

How is this force? The workers were free to quit their jobs, or take the paycut. Isn't this the free market? Companies are allowed to ask their employees to attend political events; employees are free to not attend and suffer the consequences.

Well, then it must appear

Well, then it must appear somewhere in their employment contract.

Otherwise, the other way round, employees might as well be free to just not come to work, or not perform the tasks they are assigned to, e.g., play soccer or baseball on the workplace, or anything else entirely, and still claim being entitled to get paid.

My point is: how are political events a priori so relevant to their profession that it could be seen implicit from both parties, employees and employer ? If not, and if not contractually explicited either, I'd say it be fair to sue the party that broke the contract.

Or did I miss something ?

Then you are leaving the

Then you are leaving the decision up to the courts?

What if the employment contract had a clause saying "we can fire you for any reason whatsoever"? Recall that many, many employment contracts have such clauses; employees often sue them for violation of state law, and that is what gets the employers, not the contracts itself.

So in the absense of state "reasonable restrictions" laws, if the worker has agreed to a contract that stipulates he can be fired for any reason; he can be fired for not attending and may be compelled to attend.

In a free market with no

In a free market with no government intervention and judges equipped with a decent amount of common sense to resolve the disputes, while following simple generic work laws... I'd say nobody would make such clauses in contracts, because no one would bother signing those and commit to something as silly.

Employes were told by

Employees were told by managers it was mandatory to attend the event, but then they claimed it wasn't required? Haha. Sounds like 1984 language.

How a delicate way to push

How a delicate way to push your ideas (or lack thereof), Mr. Romney.

This needs to be spread and let people know about it.

I'm from East Europe, just

I'm from East Europe, just want to make sure everybody understand this is the way the communist regimes where/are filling up stadiums, trust me, Ceausescu or Kim Jong Il didn't get 50.000+ attendance just because they where loved and popular, factories, universities and schools had to "mobilize" people to attend the presidential or any important official events. Not going would be risky, losing your job and being named "enemy of the state" was/is the best case scenario.
Looking at what is happening to USA is like going back in time...very scary!

"Mandatory" but "not forced" - Good one.

“There were no workers that were forced to attend the event,” Moore said. “We had managers that communicated to our work force that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend the event.

We should all call Century Mine in Ohio

and ask them for some verification to this..If I worked there, and this were true I'd sure the crap out of them.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Oh yea! I remember see him

Oh yea! I remember see him standing in front of them and thinking they all looked really severe and even angry. In this case I have no doubt that this story is true.

Unlikely that Drudge would run with this

The Huffington Post would though.

I am!

Drudge won't touch anything

Drudge won't touch anything anti-Romaney, is like asking CNN to air something against Obama.

good point

Rachel Maddow would also be happy to run this story.
