So do alot of voters...

isn't it a little counter productive at this time (MI primaries today) to write letters to be posted in a public forum telling one of the companies that employees huge numbers of people in a state with a beaten and battered economy that we as Ron Paul supporters are going to boycott their product, which in turn would mean laying off more workers and further battering the MI economy?

I think you might be surprised

I think you might be surprised what an effective letter writing campaign/boycott might do. People have posted that they own trucks, Ford trucks. The large SUV's and pickup trucks are having a hard time. There have been production shutdowns (no production when they had scheduled to produce) due to slow sales in an environment where gas is over $3.00 Non of he auto makers can afford to offend folks who own trucks and SUV's and who are/were considering trading in for a new one. They are stuggling in those lines.

Just remember to buy American

Part of the problems our economy is in, is because of a lot of profit sent over seas to foreign owned companies. Whenever possible, try to buy American made products, so we can keep our money and jobs here at home.

Mason, Over the last 19

Mason,

Over the last 19 years in buying new vehicles (four of them), I have slowly but surely went from not even considering buying foreign ('89 Cavalier), then for feeling bad for actually going to a dealership to look at their offerings ('93 Ranger), then feeling bad for looking on the net at foreign ('99 Mustang), then actually going and trying to work a deal for a foreign vehicle ('02 another Ranger).

As you can see, I've bought American each time. My next vehicle will not be American, and that hurts for me to say and follow through with, but I will not buy another American vehicle.

The Big 3, if you can call them that anymore, think corporate reorganization is the answer to their woes. Sure, you need to reorganize an over bloated run company. That will only get them part of the way to what's needed to turn these orgnizations around.

American vehicles are fine for people who trade in their ride every two - three years, or do short term leases. The U.S. automakers need to design and build vehicles for people like me, who keep their vehicles for more than three years and don't lease.

Out sourcing components to the lowest bidder is where I feel one of the biggest problems is with the big three. Replacing a fuel pump at 51k miles, replacing two fuel injectors at 39k miles, replacing power window components at 47k miles, fan motor blower resistors at 64k, and brake rotors at 17k miles (of course not covered under warranty because it is a wear item, even though it failed prematurely).

This is all on my current Ranger. Same thing goes for my previous rides, but not quite ot this extent.

I'm tired of buying parts to replace parts that shouldn't be failing at the times of service they have on them.

The US automakers, in my mind have come a loooong way in build quality since the 80's, but now they just put junk parts on to save money... which in effect is going to cost them money. It cost them a lost customer in me. I sincerely hope that they can fix this problem and realize it is a problem that needs to be addressed. I am sure they know they're using sub-par parts. I don't plan on buying a new ride for a few years. From the bottom of my heart, I hope they get their act together because I want to buy American made products. I am not too optimistic about it, but if they do, I'll most certainly get another US ride.

I understand but...

I did say American made, and not necessarily American owned, although my point was that even if a Toyota is built here, the profits still go back to Japan. And as you have had your problems with your ranger, I have had my share of problems with a mexican built vehicle and will never buy another vehicle built there. So I understand where you are coming from but I will continue to try to only buy american made goods, no matter how hard that is, and how much harder it is getting. It won't be long now anyway.

Buy American?

What American? What is even made here any more? Buying a so-called domestic cars is like buying a car made in 20 countries... components made in China, Mexico, Taiwan, etc, and assembled in multiple countries with very few actually assembled here anymore.

Buying American is a false sense of helping out America when it comes to cars. Heck American Toyota's are more American than most Fords and GM's now. That's how screwed up this country has become.

As far as autos,

made in the USA is not the same as autos with a US company badge. A lot of US cars are assembled abroad (ex: Ford Fusion), or, are re-badged foreign makes (Chevy Aveo, Saturn Astra). The Big 3 would have people believe that buying "foreign" is somehow treacherous or unpatriotic (they're really acting like the US govt. in that respect). At the same time, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, VW, Hyundai and Kia are opening/have opened factories in the US. And because these companies (notably Toyota) utilize local suppliers (consistent with TPS), the vast majority (I've been told even up to 96%) of the money stays within the country vs. 60% for an internationally-made US auto. So, buying a US-made Toyota Camry would actually keep more $ in the US than if one bought a Mexico-assembled Ford Fusion made with internationally-sourced parts. It revisits the question of who exactly is the foreign company. F-150's are still made in the US, though.

Ford

I own a Ford F150 too and I'll drop them a line. Mine is paid off though. No debt here. Getting out of debt was the best thing I ever did and best lesson I ever taught my own kids.

No debt is another freedom. Now I just owe $9 trillion dollars because of my politicians. They haven't figured out this get out of debt concept. They know it's a good idea because they keep TALKING about it.

Ron Paul 2008!

Just got a F350

In the past we have had 3 - F250's and an E350

'06 F150

And while Ford has had many quality issues over the years with many of their products, they have always executed very well with the F150.

I just informed Ford that I'll be changing brands next year if they don't reconsider their advertising partners.

My 69 MACH I still running

My 69 MACH I still running strong. Maybe everyone needs to stop buying new cars??

My car was a.......

RSK 1972 Plymouth Road Runner with a 400cc engine and 4 barrel carb. Most Road Runners in the late 60's and early 70's had 383's. Anyway, I loved that car, it got me through high school. And it was fast, man was it fast. Ah, it's wonderful to reminisce. I've seen these cars recently going for as much as $50-70 thousand, sometimes more.

Sent to Ford

I own a ford (Sport-trak) and as a customer please know one of the companies (News Corp/Fox News) is presenting your company in a VERY bad light. They are discriminating against Presidential Candidate Ron Paul and are providing minimial to no media coverage. If you do your research you will find he has a large support group and has had some of the largest donations to date. Please know I will be boycotting your products from here on out and will not be using any of your companys service/repair stations. Please show the public that you do not condone this type of behavior by removing your sponsorship. I am a member of the US Navy and will be making numerous people aware of this situation.
Joshua Henderson

I gave up on Ford several decades ago.

In my case, it was due to the manifest incompetence of their engineering. When a rubber part failed in my carb and I was told that they had to replace the carb for 1800 bucks, I decided to file Ford under "companies that have gone down the tubes".

well shit

every other commercial you see is for an automobile,i figure if enough of us that drive fords all told them what we think of fox it might make an impact.
the margins are huge on a single vehicle, every sale counts!!

I like your approach

A commentor below says boycotts usually peter out, and indeed they do, because it's very hard to avoid the type of advertisers that advertise on Fox. They're huge companies with their hands in a lot of things. But your approach of encouraging BUSINESSES to change their truck and van fleets away from Ford unless they drop Fox could work. It's not that big of a decision for a company to make, especially if it's a small or medium-sized business, but, because Ford is sucking wind anyway it could actually get to them and cause them to drop advertising with Fox.

Boycot Fox

the advertisers will fade away when they do not get their expected results.

Thankfully no

Both of the Fords I owned broke a long time ago. Japanese imports for me.

That may very well be made

That may very well be made in the US with non-union labor. Sounds like a win-win for me.

Boycotts usually peter out.

Boycotts usually peter out. And for that reason, may company's just ignore them.

A better approach may be to write to a few select people in Ford (customer management, ad buyers) that you are a Ford owner (give details if desired), and you would like them to please encourage their advertising recipients to provide fair coverage.
