GOP Takes Big Step Toward Gold

At the Republican National Convention, the platform committee has called on Congress to establish a "gold commission" to examine restoring the country to the gold standard.
Should the plank become law, the Federal Reserve would only be able to issue as many dollars as it had gold reserves to back them, effectively taking monetary policy out of the Fed’s hands.

On CNBC’s Kudlow Report, Sen. Rand Paul, (R) Kentucky embraced the development as a sign that his father’s ideology had finally won widespread support.

Monetary authorities who once said the gold standard was a thing of the past might need to write a new chapter in the books of American financial history.

Rand Paul’s father is Ron Paul, a Texas congressman with a passionate, libertarian-leaning following, who has long advocated returning to the gold standard.

“My dad’s signature issue has been audit the Fed and now that’s a part of the platform,” said a proud Rand Paul to Larry Kudlow.

And that’s not all.

There's other ideology advocated by Ron Paul that has been incorporated into the GOP party planks, according to Rand Paul.

“We had language that we were interested in protecting the 4th amendment and that became part of the platform,” said Paul. “And I have a bill that says we shouldn’t have drone surveillance in our country without a warrant – that became part of the platform – we’re pretty pleased.”

Isn't the value of gold (any commodity) easy to manipulate

We see how it is every day in the market. We know that certain groups have gobs of gold in storage and can devalue it whenever they want by putting some in the market.

The truth is that Ron Paul and Peter Schiff have investments in metal...and that is why they talk about the gold standard. I love Ron Paul, but there is no "safe" currency...for all safety comes from force.

Want a safer currency, buy a gun...the government is less likely to screw with the currency of an armed and aware people.

Ron Paul's former speechwriter Gary North on the gold commission

We have been down this yellow brick road before. It is nothing but gold-painted bricks all the way to the Emerald City: Greenback heaven.

In 1980 Senator Jesse Helms persuaded a Democrat- controlled Congress and Jimmy Carter to sign into law a call for a gold commission. Under those circumstances, you can imagine how seriously the President took the bill. But Carter was trounced by Reagan later that year. This offered hope to the more naive gold bugs within the camp of the faithful.

Under Reagan's Secretary of the Treasury, Donald Regan, plans went forward. In March 1982, the Gold Commission began meeting. The Secretary of the Treasury filled the commission with anti-gold Keynesians and monetarists – followers of Milton Friedman – who also favored the Federal Reserve. There were only two pro-gold standard members: Ron Paul and Lewis Lehrman. Out of the Gold Commission came a majority report, which opposed the gold standard, a minority report by Paul and Lerhman, and a detailed history of the legal foundations of the U.S. dollar by Austrian school legal scholar, Edwin Vieira.

Gold, audit the FED,

Constitution...the buzz words that are spoken to appease those unhappy with the GOP. That's all they are, empty buzzz words.

ACTIONS speak louder than words...the actions of the GOP are reprehensible.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms. Ron Paul

Bullshit and Rand is right in the middle of it

attempting to sway us, for them. If he believes what they're saying, he's naive.. if he doesn't, he's a traitor. He further proves it to me on a regular basis.

People give him to much credit because of Dr.Paul. I believe the son will betray his father.

I definitely believe they will have a Gold Commission

... then when the actual committee members that truly support an intelligent gold standard are ready to vote, they will suddenly change the rules requirements for voting and/or just blatantly kick them out.

Don't laugh.

That's exactly the way it will happen.

And the corporate media headlines - buried on page 10 - will read:

"Romney Commission Carefully Evaluates, Rejects New Gold Standard"

... and that will be it.

Don't believe a word these f*cking people say man.

Completely agree

Think it will still be in the platform

at the end of the "convention"?

If they revalue gold at 60 thousand hundred ka-chillion $ / mcg

it might be enough to absorb all the dollars now in circulation (real and digital).
