I'm not well versed enough on how the relationship between the state parties and the national party works to know. But if, people in the liberty movement were take over the state party, what would be the consequence for the national party, if the state parties were to disaffiliate with the national. The states could stop sending money to the to national and obviously stop getting money from national. However, during federal elections wouldn't the state party's candidate would be on the ballot as Republican? Don't they own the "Republican" name for their state? The national party would have to use a different name for their candidate. Since they've already decided they can override the state selection process, let them. It would seem that it would only take a few states to even threaten this to undo the changes that were recently railroaded through.
