Why You Should Vote For Romney

I am just waiting for the anger and vitriol that the headline above is going to cause. Many of us here have decided to turn our frustration and anger on each other. I hope that cooler heads prevail in the days to come.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ROMNEY

I do not like Mitt Romney. I do not agree with 90% of what he says. I do not think he is qualified to be President. I think the attacks against us by his campaign are unforgiveable. Yet I will still likely vote for him.

Recent history shows us a tendency to reelect the incumbent President. Many of us feel the office of the President is already far too powerful. Yet in the case of Reagan, Clinton, and Bush Jr., we see that a lame duck President can more easily execute an unpopular agenda when unrestrained by a reelection campaign.

If you are unhappy with Obama's first term, imagine what he will do if reelected. The gloves come off. Please recall the off camera comments he made to Vladimir Putin, where he said he can be much more accomodative AFTER the reelection.

It is time for us to go back to one term Presidents. Let us not have another lame duck President who has nothing to fear from the electorate. Let us send a message that we will cling to whatever shreds of the democratic process remain while we still have them.

To me, this duty to restrain the power of the Presidency trumps any disagreement I may have with Romney and overcomes any resentment I have for the actions he has taken against us. We need to throw Obama out and then throw Romney out four years later.

Romney is awful, ok I get it. But he is not any worse than Obama. I would rather have a bad president in his first term than a bad president in his second term emboldened by his lame duck status and unrestrained by the need to answer to the people any longer.

This is why I will likely vote for Romney, as painful as it will be for me to do so.

Lastly, before you decide to write a rude, thoughtless, or spiteful comment please understand one thing. I have faced more attacks and hatred from my local GOP in response to my support for Dr. Paul than anything you can throw at me. Please attack my arguments at will but do not attack me personally, I am on your side.

Sorry Milton, "no can do", I

Sorry Milton, "no can do", I just can't stomach Romney. Had he been fair and honest it would have been different. I have never been into politics, I'm 37 and 2012 will be my first year voting and paying attention to what's going on. It STINKS!!!! Sometimes I wish I was still blissfully ignorant but having kids often makes you think of things you wouldn't normally care about. I plan to do my part by voting my conscience and teaching my kids about our constitution. If I can't have Ron Paul, then I will choose Gary Johnson.

Why you don't need to vote for Romney

No matter who you vote for, your vote will be flipped to Romney. Ron Paul supporters learned this well throughout the primary, caucus and delegate processes. The only way to vote against Romney is to not vote at all.

We know what Obama wants to we can fight against it.

Romney is a known liar. We don't know which lie he would implement.

My interpretation

My interpretation is that your argument for Romney is that he would be less destructive than Obama simply because Obama can't run again in 2016. I think having either one of them in office will be destructive for this country. I see no difference in driving off the cliff at 60 miles an hour or 100 miles an hour, it's still driving off a cliff.

Another issue with that strategy is that if Romney wins, we have to wait 8 years to get a liberty candidate on the GOP ticket because the GOP would anoint Romney in 2016 just as the DEMS are doing with Obama. It's a message of party weakness when you disregard your incumbent so they would retain Romney for the 2016 race. The question is do you want to be able to field a liberty candidate four years from now or eight years from now?

Finally, a Romney victory marginalizes everything we have been working for in the last four years. Actually, last eight years and even longer for some of us. It would tell the GOP that, yes, we will support their crappy candidate even after they snubbed us in Tampa. It would protect the status quo. A significant showing of support outside the two-party system would tell them that we took our vote elsewhere. If they value our few million votes, they would want us back in 2016 after a 2012 defeat.

So how can you vote in 2012 to secure a battlefield that is more beneficial to us in 2016 than the one we have now. Click on my username and read some of the threads I have started, I've written some good strategies we can consider.

If Obama has another term, we

If Obama has another term, we will get more supporters. People will look for a true fiscal conservative in 2016 after the extremist democratic socialism of our current president. That conservative will be Rand Paul.

Romney will mean less angry Republicans supporting us. It'll also mean he's guaranteed the nomination in 2016 and the 2020 nominee will also be a moderate.

Look at Eastern Europe. After living through the horrors of communism, eastern European countries are implementing far more conservative and libertarian policies than those in western Europe, which did not encounter ultra-authoritarian socialism. In western Europe, the socialism slowly creeped in and consumed both sides. We can't let that happen in America.

I get what you're saying

This argument had come up before, and I kinda agree with it. Obama, as vile as he had been, has been holding back. He's waiting until the superficial accountability before the People is passed before he really unleashes what he wants to do. As far as I can guess, he may just want to one-up Romney's anti-grassroots rules with an executive order. And even though Romney's anti-grassroots rules would affect the Republican party, we're still free to act in the Democratic party (hah hah) to try to unseat Romney in 2016.

What worries me is that Romney acts like he doesn't need the grassroots to win at all. He doesn't need the Paulites, the Tea Partiers, or the Palinites. And this makes me feel like it really makes no difference at all who I vote for. Neither Obama nor Romney won their nominations fairly, and neither one will win the Presidency fairly. I feel like, whatever happens, it is out of my hands. So the best I can do is vote my conscience, if I vote at all.

"Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." -- Thomas Paine

Look What Happened With Ross Perot

He predicted our economic demise. He was right on. He split the Republican vote and Clinton won. If you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. Obama has to go! Romney can be POTUS for a single term until Rand Paul runs in 2016. This is the first priority - getting rid of Obama. GOOD POST!

Clinton was not any worse

Clinton was not any worse than Bush Sr....

Ventura 2012

I hate to say this, but

I hate to say this, but Clinton was better than Bush jr, and certainly better than Bush sr.

We would have gotten 911 and the patriot act sooner under Bush sr.

As it was, we got the drug war, Iran-Contra, and the NWO under Bush sr.

Both parties are globalist, but something about the Republicans pushes the dictatorship and militarization faster. And now a cult has taken over the GOP.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

Stop - No One Needs to Vote for Romney- See Post "It's Still

Possible - Ron Paul can be in the Presidential race. All we have to do is get the word to him that we would support a 3rd party run. Time is running out and if he could announce it on Leno Show look at all the millions we could reach!

I think by the downvotes here and the comments

We can see that no true Liberty Movement supporter is stupid enough to vote for Romney.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

It must be destroyed from the

It must be destroyed from the inside. Then again, so must the Democratic Party... and Obama was an excellent start.

Obamney/Ryden 2012! Screw

Obamney/Ryden 2012!

Screw them both. A vote is too important to throw away on Romney or Obama.

In many ways Mittens would be

In many ways Mittens would be worse than Obama because the 'loyal opposition' suddently forgets about the evils of Obama and goes along to do them for the Mittens. Obama is already discredited policy wise as well.

They are both absolute crap.

How can you vote for a bankster

if you vote on principle? I can't hold my nose and vote for him -Gary is the only reasonable choice imho

I agree. This is where the separation comes

between the Conservatives and the Libertarians. Conservatives are willing to vote for moderates in order to defeat Socialists, Libertarians would rather the Socialists win so they can have more to bitch about. Unlike Libertarians, Paleoconservatives actually get something done every now and then. R&R 2012!!!

We did our best, we came up short, let's live to fight another day. Eating crumbs from the establishment's table is better than starving to death. I'm not going to become an accomplice in letting the worst president in U.S. history have a second term.

Ever heard of 434-1 votes in Congress? Who was that one vote?

Why would Ron Paul do that?

Why he would!

That's not the same though. He was voting on legislation. Romney 2012!!!

You are a fool and equally complicit

If you actually believe that Romney or Ryan are conservatives. Romney is more akin to Italian style fascism than conservatism.

Romney and Ryan are a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to America and everything it was built on and so is anyone who votes for those clowns.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

You are absolutly right

They do get things done every once in a while. Things like:

The Patriot Act
Medicaid part D
TARP
Executive Orders circumventing congress to do things like blow up countries

and even moving back in time...
Things like taking us off the gold standard

Its easy to make statements about Libertarians not getting things done when you don't allow them to participate.

Actually, if you want some real twisted logic. You should be voting and praying Obama gets in. Imagine all wonderful things that will be done when the corrupt GOP runs the House, Senate and Executive branch.

Perhaps getting nothing done buys us a little time....

The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

You were never a Ron Paul supporter, then.

We don't compromise with scumbags. We vote our conscience, and stand by our principles. That means NOT voting for candidates who don't reflect through their actions a commitment to Constitutional government, sound money, and a sane foreign policy. When have Willard or Obama EVER reflected those ideals?

By the way, I don't know what planet you live on, but here on Earth, Willard isn't a moderate and Obama isn't a socialist. They're both the exact same garden-variety corporatist oligarch.

Eating crumbs from the establishment's table is better than starving to death.

You just don't get it. "Eating crumbs from the establishment's table" sends the message that we're okay with a rigged nomination process. It emboldens the RNC criminals to cheat even more next time around, and ensures that the liberty movement will never, ever win.

I'm not going to become an accomplice in letting the worst president in U.S. history have a second term.

Dubya has been out of office for a while now. I'd rather not give Dubya 2.0 eight years to completely destroy this country.

Nothing energizes a Republican Congress...

..like a Democrat in the White House.

Milton, your arguments are thoughtful, well-reasoned, and wrong.

In your list of reasons, some of them very good (and almost compelling I might add), you neglect the most important economical principle: If you reward something you get more of it. Voting for Slick Willard is telling the GOP that you approve of their larcenous "nomination" process.

If you reward something, you get more of it.

If America rewards Obama with a second term, we will only get more of what Obama has been dishing out. If O wins a second term, the Republican Party will nominate a Paul Ryan type Conservative in 2016, NOT a libertarian. When that happens, people like yourself will still refuse to vote for the GOP nominee despite the destruction that 8 years of a Democratic administration will have already brought on this country.

The Republican Party us not going to embrace us if they lose to Obama. John McCain lost and it didn't change the GOP's reaction to us in the least bit four years later.
