TAMPA, FLA. — Just one day after Ron Paul officially exited the Republican presidential race, PayPal co-founder and libertarian bankroller Peter Thiel made a quiet trip to Tampa to meet with Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and several Paul-friendly delegates, sources close to the Paul camp told Business Insider Wednesday.
According to those sources, Thiel had a private meeting with the younger Paul Wednesday morning, and later met with some of Paul's delegates at a private home in Tampa's Stoney Point neighborhood.
The meetings were not related to fundraising, one source told Business Insider, but rather to discuss "the future of the Liberty Movement," the preferred name of the conservative libertarian movement inspired in part by Ron Paul. Theil, who recently cashed out on his Facebook investment, has donated millions to so-called Liberty candidates this election cycle, including more than $2.5 million to a SuperPAC supporting Congressman Paul's third White House bid.
Theil's appearance at the site of the Republican National Convention comes at a watershed moment for the Liberty Movement. Ron Paul exited the race Tuesday amid a contentious battle between his supporters and the party establishment, leaving his son to mend those bridges and convince supporters — and donors — that he can lead the movement going forward.

Peter Thiel is a doing the
Peter Thiel is a doing the same thing as Rand. He is right in the middle of the den of snakes standing up for the concept of Liberty. I don't have a man crush on him of anything, but I personally respect and appreciate what he is doing.

Rand saw the writing on the wall
Rand realized that to be an "insider" when you're up against this much power and corruption is much smarter than being an outsider.
The GOP has just proven it will never let in "Ron Paul supporters" -- at least not THIS generation, any way. So Rand presented himself at the GOP gate & said the magic words. After he showed them he was a team player, they let him in.
Rand is no dummy. He's no traitor, either. I never thought he was but the majority threw him under the bus. Some threw dad Ron under the bus too. (they were the traitors)
This was carefully thought out. He's "inside" the Big Boys club until they can be gotten rid of. He's in there pushing for freedom against the TSA, against drones, against the NDAA and the Federal Reserve. After Ron retires from Congress, he will be the only one in there fighting for us -- until new generations join.
No, he's no Ron Paul and he never will be. Nobody will ever be, not even his own son. He could even turn corrupt one day -- but while his father is still by his side, he won't.
I predict in awhile a lot of people will owe Rand Paul a big apology for sucking it up and doing something he personally found distasteful -- because he saw the big picture. He realized getting in the middle with the enemy was the only way to accomplish things. Because the enemy is not ready to go down....yet.
P.S. And he obviously knows who to make friends with...
Rand's Disrespect of Dad
But why wouldn't Rand agree with Wolfe Blitzer about how disrespectful Ron Paul was treated at the Convention? Even Wolfe thought it was childish, unnecessary and with a complete sense of disrespect to Ron Paul after decades of being a true public servant, to not state the delegate count for Dr. Paul on the floor. Rand wouldn't have been risking anything to admit his father was being disrespected. I'm not sure I buy your point of view, blakmira.
If Rand Paul hadn't said the
If Rand Paul hadn't said the things he said at the convention, who would have? Did anyone else? We need people like Rand in the mix, or there will be NO voice for liberty in the halls of power. I don't like that he has to do it, and I am sure it is a bitter pill to swallow for him as well. Right now, one of the best voices we have is Rand. Of course, all this is just my humble opinion and I expect to get shredded for it.

Go back and watch that carefully.
You are being way too sensitive about this. Sure...maybe you or I would have handled this differently and pulled a Tom Davis.
But Rand is playing old school politics...and it is working.
Just like I say follow Paul Ryan's voting record (he aint no civil libertarian)...all you gotta do is follow Rand's voting record.
He IS a civil libertarian. He is one of us. Just playing a different strategy.
Get over the touchy feely part about Dr. Paul and his supporters being wronged at the convention.
The world is waking up about this and, thanks to youtube, everyone is starting to discover the good doctor "won" with his ideas.

The seeds of an eventual future Liberty President has been sown
and that Paul, the Younger...will inherit the WH.
I pray
For Rand Paul, not because I think he is a treacherous individual, but because he is playing a game that few have won. Buchanan played trying to funnel neocons to a position that would allow for a more proper role in government, and was nearly sucked in with them, twice endorsing them before he finally gave up and left politics after an unsucessful political run. Ronald Reagan was absorbed into the neocon sphere by his second term. It is much easier to give them the cold shoulder, though it is no a formula for immediate political success. It is much easier to increase government powers than decrease them. I hope Rand is up to the task.
Prediction: Rand WILL be President eventually.
And a great one.
Just think of the Pauls like this:
Ron Paul - Idealist (also greatest living politician - but thats beside the point for this).
Rand Paul - Bridge to the NeoCons.
The more I listen to Rand Paul the more I realize he has a very tough job - dancing to THEIR tune, while convincing them to dance to OURS.
Why doesn't RAND run now as
Why doesn't RAND run now as an independent.
That'll earn him major respect back.

I think its because he hasn't
I think its because he hasn't even honored his first term as a senator yet, and it would make him look like another Obama. Its (unfortunately) a timing issue. Before we knew that Dr. Paul was running, I remember Rand saying that there will always be a Paul running in the future. I guess we will see.
I think our part will be to continue to convert fellow Americans one by one over the next few years. Given our current size, if we each manage to convert just one person per year for the next 4 years, we will be huge. I think that job will become easier and easier as events unfold.

Peter did give our revolution
Peter did give our revolution millions of dollars... Maybe he is a good bilderberger, nonetheless I dont see the strategy in giving us millions of dollars ultimately to destroy our cause....
you just answered your own
you just answered your own question. to ultimately steer, control and destroy the movement
Its an old CIA tactic
-First they ignore you
-Then they say you dont exist
-then they marginalize you,
-then they join you
-then they take you over and run you off a cliff.
Secret meetings...HA! This is the end of the Revolution...
Wow, there is NOTHING libertarian about secret meetings with very wealthy people.
If we grassroots supporters continue to follow orders and allow ourselves to be significantly influenced by the "higher-ups" in the liberty movement, we are no different than sheepish Obama or Romney supporters.
I mean, talk about a Jekyll-Island-esque meeting here. And the fact that they're meeting with DELEGATES? I'll tell you what that means: delegates are the representatives of states. If Rand and Thiel control and influence delegates from different states, then those delegates become the spokespeople who parrot whatever Rand and Thiel tell them to their local state grassroots supporters.
For fuck's sake, people, don't become the next Obama/Romney sheep of the liberty movement. This is EXACTLY the slippery slope that destroys movements and collections of well-intentioned people. I don't know if Rand or Thiel have good intentions...but that's exactly the POINT and reasoning behind libertarianism/anarchism: absolute power corrupts absolutely, you cannot know the minds of those in power, so never let them get the power.
Don't be sheep, question authority, question your leaders--especially those you THINK you can trust...

Are you seriously throwing out any entrepreneur who's liberty-leaning?
They're a core piece of the movement and always have been!
He's not just some
He's not just some entrepreneur, he's on the Bilderberg steering committee:

Having secret meetings with people like that is a really bad sign.
gold = money
war = health of the state
liberty = prosperity
I don't want to threadjack but
All we know about the Bilderberg group is a bunch of big shots get together and air their true opinions and goals without the embarrassment of media exposure.
Everything else is necessarily speculation.
I have a hard time believing that a bunch of lifelong libertarian web entrepreneurs like the PayPal gang are going to get together and devise a one-world authoritarian state.
I'm open to evidence though.
You make a good point but
You make a good point but it's likely too much complicated for us, average non-billionaire Joe's to know about the full extent:
1. as you point out, Thiel seems like a fairly motivated entrepreneur, more than a globalist; as such, he may have had genuine motivations jumping in that are not forcibly implying deviant intents from him "to take over the world" in a club of wanna-be enslavers if that's what they are in their majority -- call it him being naive, if you wish;
2. conversely, the secrecy of their meetings turns out to be very convenient to those of them who DO have globalist plans;
3. relating to (2), I'd be much more attentive to those of them WHO ARE ALSO on the rosters of UNAMBIGUOUSLY globalist clubs WITHOUT REMAINING DOUBTS : the IMF, the CFR, the EU commission bureaucrats, the proponents of Agenda 21, you name it; e.g.,
http://www.cfr.org/about/corporate/roster.html
Caution and awareness re: all those is still VERY RELEVANT to keep in our state of mind.
