Are You Anti-Science?

Are you a Creationist? Do you want your kids to grow up with Creationist beliefs?

Bill Nye, "The Science Guy" lays it on the line for parents.

Bill Nye Is Actually the one who Is Anti-Science

Free Yourself from All Prejudices

Free yourself from religious and scientific prejudices. Whole of this thread is based on prejudices from both sides. Learn to start to trust your own experience of the world. But this is incredibly difficult as every culture/tradition is based on brainwashing people to certain kinds of belief/conceptual-systems and even if we free ourselves from some explanations we normally fill that empty space with some new explanation which seems to us more plausible. We want explanations for everything, but these different explanations (scientific, religious, moral, metaphysical, etc.) are like medicines which will take away our basic experience of the world which is astonishment and sense of mystery.

By the way what does it matter if the theory of evolution or creationism is true? If somebody would be able for 100% sure to prove either of these stories true it wouldn't make any difference at all. If you want some explanations at least be more creative than just sticking yourselves to these two possible stories.

FYI - The Catholic church,

FYI - The Catholic church, along with a lot of other non-Biblical beliefs, believes in evolution, not God, creating the world.

This is just a calling from where this particular backstabbing is coming from, btw.

Bring on the pedophile priests next. You're either saved, or you're not, and we're seeing the merger of all evils.

Revelation 19:19

19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

As a Chrisitan I do not

As a Chrisitan I do not listen to the Catholic church. The catholic schurch is a joke in my opinion as many other so called Christian churches are. You quote Revelation. Read the first chapter of Revelation. Jesus's opinion of the churches was not very good either.

True Christiantity is not a religion.. it is a RELATIONSHIP.

If there is no God then where do our natural rights come from? What gives me a foundation to push back against the state? Why do i get to keep a gun? Why do i get to keep my money? Why do i get to worship who/where i want. Why do i pay a Judge to uphold justice. Why do i say i am a free individual?

One of the biggest pitfalls in a "movment" is the temptation to get cultish about it and refuse to realize that it is only part of the picture. -Joel Salatin ; You Can Farm pg 202

Exactly

If there is no God, Morals and Rights would have to be all Relative. There is neither Right nor Wrong.

Morals and Rights

ARE relative. Right or Wrong is taught by societies. What's right in one society could be absolutely evil in another.Reality is different for different people. Do you suppose everyone should view the world exactly as you do just because that's what YOU think is right? How do you know YOU'RE not wrong? Just asking.

what are the ten commandments.. Seems to me right and wrong was taught by God.

I personal believe Morals and

I personal believe Morals and Rights ARE objective and given from GOD.

Murder Wrong? Theft Wrong? Abortion Wrong? Sex Trafficking Wrong? Gay Marriage Wrong?

In a Godless society the opposite would also be true.

Morals and Rights are

Morals and Rights are relative. It all depends on the preferences of those who are "playing". God wants it that way.

Imprisoned Creationist Kent Hovind....

...answered this in his unique, yet consistent way...

http://www.kenthovindblog.com/?p=980

Ahem...

"Kent E. Hovind (born January 15, 1953) is an American young Earth creationist. Hovind has spoken on creation science and has aimed to convince listeners to reject theories of evolution, geophysics, and cosmology in favor of his interpretation of the Genesis creation narrative from the Bible. Hovind's views are contradicted by scientific evidence and some of his ideas have also been criticized by young Earth creationist organizations such as Answers in Genesis.
Hovind established the Creation Science Evangelism in 1991, and frequently spoke on young Earth creationism at seminars at private schools and churches, debates, and on radio and television broadcasts. Since January 2007, Hovind has been serving a ten-year prison sentence after being convicted of 58 federal counts, including 12 tax offenses, one count of obstructing federal agents, and 45 counts of structuring cash transactions. He is incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution at Berlin, New Hampshire."

And the most hilarious part:

"Hovind has been criticized by other creationists, including young Earth creationists and old Earth creationists, who believe that many of his arguments are invalid and, consequently, undermine their causes. Disagreements over how to respond to Hovind's claims have themselves contributed to acrimony between creationist organizations. The Australian and U.S. arms of Answers in Genesis (AiG) were critical of Hovind[76] after he had criticized[77] a position document from Creation Ministries International, "Arguments we think creationists should NOT use".[78] In particular AiG criticized Hovind for "persistently us[ing] discredited or false arguments"[75] and said Hovind's claims are "self-refuting".[79]"

He's even been criticized by OTHER creationists! This chap isn't very smart no matter how you look at it.

so no

atheist ever disagree? Kent list hundreds of arguments on his dvd set, and another creationist disagrees with some of them, that doesnt really prove anything one way or another.

Sounds like there are an

Sounds like there are an awful lot of scientists, as well as "creationists" who think the guy makes problematic arguments.

Your LInk is Awesome! I'd love to see Bill Nye try to

awnser this challenge. Great for laying it straight on for the kids.

This is an issue

that Ron Paul, von Mises, and Rothbard had avoided while Ayn Rand had taken head on.

Epicurus was the most laconic:

"1) Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

2) Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.

3) Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?

4) Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

God treated man like

a man, instead of like a two year old, and man sinned, so God provided a way to right that wrong. He came to earth, was born of a virgin, lived thirty three years and died on the cross to pay for that sin, and then rose from the grave on the third day. Now its up to you whether you ask him to forgive your sins or not. I personally reject the calvinist world view of God.

We are in this life because we wanted to

Very valid questions. These questions made me an atheist from 1995 until the mid 2000s.

1) God/The Source/Everything That Is is certainly omnipotent.

2) Likewise the source of all that is is also willing to flood everything with abundance.

3) "Evil" (=that what we do not want) comes from the habit of blocking the natural stream of abundance. That can happen when we focus too much on what we do NOT want and hence feeling bad. By feeling bad one is blocking the stream of abundance (depending on the degree of "feeling bad").
So in order to allow the good into one's life experience one has to get rid of the inner resistance more and more. Search for "Law of Attraction" for more info.

4) does not apply see above

This process of releasing resistance never ends because whenever we expand our experience we will encounter contrast and inner resistance. We/God wanted it that way. We are in this life because we wanted to.

Prevent Evil?

We live in a relative world. There can be no light w/o darkness, no good w/o evil. I don't think the creator is slacking on the job and should be conjuring up some kind of bailout or something. The law is: Follow God's 10 Commandments. That's my 2 cents worth. (Nothing wrong with discussing these mysteries)

I think the answer may be...

...that every person, in order to truly be a person has to take some journey of free will and experience, in order to have a point of reference for eventually voluntarily embracing the Creator.

Personally, I believe that the end of the story is good...that all of Creation will be restored to its ideal, because God is both willing and able to do so. I don't believe there is some arbitrary line drawn at death beyond which there is no more Love for each individual. That's not to say we can't bring down some pretty heavy consquences on ourselves based on our choices, a wandering in the wilderness for a time; but when all is stripped away between the individual and the Creator, they will eventually respond to eternal Love. Love will win in the end, and all shall be well.

God has his reasons. Study

God has his reasons. Study Genensis. there you will find the answer.

You see

I was talking about logic and rational thinking, while you are feeding me with a belief. In medical circles, if one complains about inner voice or that from the sky, he/she is diagnosed with schizophrenia. Exception is made for people who do not employ rational mind: religious, autistic and retards.

But I understand childish fear of death and utopian hunger to live for ever.

I would agree, although I

I would agree, although I think actually hearing a voice could be as much psychosomatic as anything in a religious context. Like most discussion regarding religion, a debate is relatively pointless. Worthwhile debate requires proofs, rational reasoning and logical consistency; religion requires that you believe it and that's it.

That's why I find the video pointless, outside of disagreeing with his politics, a scientist's plea regarding evolution to religious people serves no purpose if it doesn't jibe with their previously held beliefs.

I must say, reading many of

I must say, reading many of the comments on this thread is simply mortifying.

Here we have evidence of BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of planets in billions of galaxies and it was all specifically created just for YOU?

Have you ever seen the images of the cosmos? Have you ever though to try to comprehend just how small you are compared to the universe around you?

We have our smartest people exploring the very nature of space, time and matter right now and you are hiding behind your superstition, too arrogant to appreciate the beauty of the world around you without resorting to a deity. The gaps you attribute to your god today will be explained by science in a natural and logical way soon.

And why is YOUR religion right? There are thousands of gods and just as many different religions, some of which have records of existing from before your god supposedly created the earth. What about the nearly 70% of the world population that doesn't believe in YOUR god?

Created specifically for me?

"I must say, reading many of the comments on this thread is simply mortifying." I agree - that anyone still believes the general theory of evolution is quite sad and astonishing given the overwhelming scientific evidence that points to Special Creation.

The general theory of evolution isn't just anti-science, it's anti-knowledge. It hinders progress in science by laying a false foundation through the preaching of science-fiction as science-fact.

Here's your best line: "We have our smartest people exploring the very nature of space, time and matter right now and you are hiding behind your superstition..."

A "superstition" is an irrational belief, such as thinking that everything came from nothing:

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist." This nonsense is from Prof. Stephen Hawking, one of "our smartest people exploring the very nature of space, time and matter", pushing science-fiction as science-fact.

By the way, neither the BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of planets or galaxies, or anything else for that matter, were specifically created just for me or anyone else...

"For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him." Colossians 1:16 (NASB)

The theory of evolution has

The theory of evolution has been well demonstrated, if you have any questions about specific parts of it, I would do my best to demonstrate how science shows that natural unguided processes can create complex results with time.

There is no 'law' of gravity, we are still quite unsure of WHY it works and why it does what it does, we can explain the results (attraction of matter) but science is still developing a comprehensive theory of gravity.

You god is unneccesary in the natural explanation of the creation of this world, any gap that you may attribute to god today, will be explained through science in the near future, the ignorance of your religion will soon be attributed to the real of myth, just like every religion before it.
