The French National Anthem, “La Marseillaise”, by Mireille Mathieu

Over the past week of emotional upheaval I keep thinking of the French National Anthem “La Marseillaise”.

This song, especially the version sung by Mireille Mathieu, is extremely inspiring. I know very little French but I sure understand “March on, March on!” I know we have our own patriotic songs and many of them are also inspiring, but nobody seems to be using them these days. The marches of John Phillips Sousa and our own National Anthem should rouse the most apathetic among us but they aren’t being played. I’ve watched some of the music at the convention and I’m just not impressed with today’s music.

For a bit of history read the article about the song on Wikipedia:

I did find a video of Mireille Mathieu’s performance but it has been blocked by copyright restrictions:

Another place they still have the audio though the video has been removed:

and the audio can be downloaded here:

For those who don’t “get it”…if you’ve read the article and the LYRICS to the song, and you still don’t “get it”…
I’m sorry. You will, and probably in very short order.
May God help us. We are in a battle for the survival of our very existence. If you don't believe that, you haven't been paying attention.

Thank you all!

Thank you all for listening and for your heartfelt comments. I too get chills, in fact, I can't make it through the second verse without bursting into tears.

I think of the legions of patriots over the years; American patriots, French patriots, Russian patriots, German patriots, English patriots, Irish patriots...
The list goes on and on.

Is there ANY people in the world who hasn't been oppressed and had to fight for their freedom and liberty at some time in history? And here we are, still fighting for the same things.

I think of the total waste in lives, money, resources and creativity that could be used to better our communities and countries.

Perhaps the human race is destined to self-destruct with this endless greed and evil. I don't know. It makes me very sad.

I guess I'm just in a moribund mood today.

"Our names are LEGION"

hummm...might make a slogan of that.

Unfortunately, including here at the DP among some

(not only President Barack "I won't wear 'that pin' on my chest" and First Lady Michelle "All this for a damn flag" Obama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJgWMI0hch8) - some people equate a sense of patriotism as akin to "jingoism." But don't get too misty eyed over the French national anthem; it wouldn't appear it's sung much in France any more - and for the same reason our own beautiful anthems are not heard much here in America. It's in the spirit of the U.N.'s Agenda 21 and One World Order. I live in an area with few flags seen flying, yet an exchange student from France was shocked to see any. She said they didn't do that in France, or it would be viewed as "nationalism." Unlike the Obamas, I can think of a few things I'm proud of America for, and nothing more than our wonderful Constitution, why I'd like to see it restored from what Republican & Democrat presidents and Congresses have turned it into: shreds.
(P.S. A flag pin for the president. http://newsbusters.org/?q=blogs/warner-todd-huston/2008/05/1...)

I checked the link you

I checked the link you provided. I wasn't aware of that flag issue but I can't say I'm surprised. Stupid is as stupid does.

As far as I'm concerned "zero" doesn't DESERVE to wear that pin.

You are so right that the UN agenda is to strip everyone of their national identity therefore they make a mockery of patriotism and nationalism. This also strips individuals of their sense of identity and belonging to the 'group'. The destruction of the family is a big part of that agenda. Humans NEED to feel they 'belong'; to family, community, etc. If they don't feel that, they will seek it out and will fall for anything that comes along that will accept them. We all need to feel ACCEPTED. (This is a good part of why the Ron Paul group is so successful; it's all-encompassing and people who are rejected by other organizations can feel at home here. This is also why we are all feeling so upset with the RNC; they have deliberately and brazenly REJECTED US.)
We should all be proud of our country and our heritage; all people everywhere, not just Americans. This farce of 'multiculturalism' is also part of the plan. It's designed to confuse, shame and stress societies. It is aimed at mongrelizing entire societies until there is no heritage left, no source to point to where we can say "This is my country" or "These are my people".

for Liberty!

Do not forget that the French people gave us our Statue of Liberty.

I, too, encourage everyone to listen and read the lyrics. It is very powerful and beautiful.

Gave me chills
