I Was Stuck In The Left Right Thing And I Just Got Blown Out!
Submitted by Barracuda_Trader on Sun, 09/02/2012 - 23:41Our job is to spread the message of liberty, sound money and peace everywhere!
There is no boundary to our work.
That's why we need to learn to quit fighting everybody and be the message of liberty, sound money and peace -- wherever we go -- whatever we do -- and whatever we say.
Sound like anybody you know?
There is even a video out there where Ron Paul talks about revolutionary ideas being adopted by people of all political affiliations.

Presidential politics are too corrupt
The next part of our journey as liberty activists has to be the Free State Project:

A bunch of us in Cali have been talking about the free state project. I think if we fail to convert the liberals here, then we're moving out to New Hampshire. I'll be there after I finish up law school and will no doubt be running for office there.
I would like to see an end to political parties.
What are they needed for? Please tell me, because I see them causing nothing but problems.
Me too and...
George Washington would agree!
""The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissention, which in different ages & countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders & miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security & repose in the absolute power of an Individual: and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty." — George Washington, September 19, 1796"

The problem isn't political
The problem isn't political parties, the problem is the duopoly of parties that we have now. Political parties are actually very good things when used correctly, they allow for candidates to be vetted against a platform by informed activists prior to being present to the public. The public only has to be aware of the party platform. The problem is that with ballot access laws, we are limited to 2 parties, stifling competition and silencing voices outside the controlled conversation within the 2 party system.
The might not be needed ...
They might not be needed. Our system is based on the idea of electing people, individuals, from our districts to represent us. The thought was that you would know these people personally, or at least could get reliable information about their character. They'd also return home and face their constituents, neighbors, friends, family. It would not be pleasant for them if they lied and cheated.
Things have changed so much in 200+ years that it's just not like that anymore. Besides being lost in highly populated areas, where it's very unlikely you'll know the people running, people actually move into districts to run and may move back out again if the lose the election. It's just not a "neighbor" anymore.
Thing is, people formed and operated political parties even though it wasn't in the prescription. That's what got things so screwed up .... i.e. created the de facto "two-party system." Outlawing political parties pretty clearly violates freedom of association, free speech, and likely a bunch of other stuff; so, I think it's also clear that we'd be heading the wrong way trying to stop them from existing.
The only logical solution is to accept the existence of political parties and modify the system so that it works properly with parties - that would be the multi-party system that I discuss in my post below.

What about the Liberty Movement?
I agree that everyone should continue to present the message. Communication is important and there is a need (can't think of any adjectives powerful enough to describe how important the "need" is .. really, really important) to counter the daily propaganda of the two-party con game. Somebody's got to do it!
But is the question about the whole direction of the Liberty Movement? (Or am I about to expand beyond the originally posted comment because I read too much into it?)
The Liberty Movement needs a concrete goal that will result in getting a concrete effect. It needs a project with a goal. I've recently proposed something and was quickly reminded that American's don't understand it. Please don't take that personally. The US doesn't have a multi-party system, so my first effort didn't get any traction. In fact, while I was addressing the problem with voting for people we really want in office ('cause that just wastes your vote, you know), people thought I was trying to do away with the Republic because I used the word "democracy" (which has to do with voting, we do that now already).
I'll spend some time when I have it, writing more clearly on the idea; explaining how a multi-party system works and hope that fixes it. But seeing this comment, I wanted to mention it again. We need inclusion of more parties. (I'm sure about that, although I'm also sure the idea will meet with debate.)
I'll give the link to the article I mentioned above. For those of you who read it, be assured that I'm not pushing for the downfall of the Republic or Constitutional Rule (I'm very much for Constitutional rule). I'm not suggesting replacing everything with "pure democracy". The objective is meaningful inclusion of multiple (more than two) parties. See also some of the comments below the article. There is a bit of an explanation of multi-party systems there.
The Republican Party is Dead. The US Needs Democracy.

Read Murray Rothbard . . .
if you havent already done so. He was a genius and wrote on many things including economics, history, and political strategy. He was known as Mr Libertarian and wrote about the strategy of bringing different groups together under the tent of common interests. In his time it included those united in opposition to the Vietnam war. - - Bring enough on the right actually sick of the growth of government and those on the left actually sick of all the wars - - - and you have something to build on. (IMO its best not to focus at the national level, but thats another issue.)
Rothbards videos, books and articles can be found at www.mises.org
Most of them can be downloaded there for free.
talk verses action ...
I've been spreading the message of liberty since 1990 in various activities (other than private discussions) and have been writing articles for various online publications since 2000. It's a good thing in my view, and something we're not going to stop doing. I switched to "we" there because it's obvious that I'm not the only person who's been doing it and I'm sure we'll keep doing it no matter what the rest of you decide to do. Speaking for publications I've been associated with, as someone who's worked in this thing for so many years that I have some real insight, they need to be of more interest to you; enough so that the online publications get enough hits to become profitable through advertising. Like me for example - I've been involved for decades and publishing articles for more than a decade. I wonder if even a single person reading this post has ever heard of me or would have the slightest idea what publications I've written for. But how many articles have you posted in various places from Fox, CNN, etc.?
The work I've done has had an impact, but less than it should have had. MensNewsDaily.com made it into the top 50 conservatively oriented (or was it all politically oriented) websites and altered the national discussion on welfare reform. I was the most prolific writer for that publication. I'm a professional analyst / scientist with on record congressional testimony (lost count how many), BTW, so not just chit-chat. I spent a lot of time on welfare reform related research. "Welfare reform" still has problems, which I take up in articles in The Libertarian Examiner, a relatively new publication; Libertarian Paul supporter Robert Bentley's second after Conservative for Change.
After welfare reform stopped being a hot topic, I spent time researching the global warming scam and began nagging about that. But these specialty publications have a life cycle with specialized audiences. I wonder what will happen to The Libertarian Examiner, which hasn't even gotten out of the blogg stage yet, now that Paul's last stand as a Republican candidate is over. For the most part, at LE I've written commentary related to the Republican presidential primary and the presidential race generally. People here were particularly pleased with my endorsement of Ron Paul. http://www.libertarian-examiner.com/2012/02/breaking-most-im...
And turned the term "Paulbot" into a good thing: http://www.libertarian-examiner.com/2011/12/how-to-become-pa... As far as I know, I wrote the first more general kind of overview (short but enough to demonstrate) on the corruption in the primaries (there were already a bunch on individual events): http://www.libertarian-examiner.com/2012/06/romney-nominatio... ... my tactic for writing articles at LE has involved being very active and observant in online political discussions and spin de jour and responding to it with an article that I (and anyone else) can post rather than repeating the same arguments to the same spin and disinformation endlessly.
So, now that this post is so long, I'll write separately on what I think the movement should do other than support publications and writers that fight for liberty. But to cap this off with an action message:
I also wrote a proposed software development and business plan for MensNewsDaily.com that included making money licensing news site software and providing hosting services for news sites. I think those are still sitting around somewhere. That would need funding. But if there's someone who wants to partner on a new serious news and commentary site (with or without our own software and hosting) let's talk. Without funding, I still have time to provide articles. With funding, I can get involved in the other stuff.

objectivity and an avoidance of partisan lingo
I'd suggest a manner taken from MSNBC or NPR or most of the left leaning liberal media. They avoid making up phrases such as "the job creators" or even "the freedom movement". They generally use very subtle spin if at all and ofttimes only skew a subject by avoiding some of the conservative side of the argument. Even as a Ron Paul follower and libertarian since 1999, I find myself enjoying their take on things better than the slap in the face hyper-partisan rhetoric on FOX. I tend to try to explain specifics such as the regressive nature of using inflation as a taxation vehicle. Or how government programs generally don't spend money on things that you use at the federal level, but they do at the state, city, and county levels so federal taxation should be lowered so that local governments have more potential revenue. I lived in San Francisco for a while, so I had to be civil, but I think that everyone should seek to educate first and convert last, if at all. Most people see themselves as basically good.
You just coined a new term that will be around for years
"the slap in the face hyper-partisan rhetoric on FOX"
Like..."At the end of the day".

I never thought of that...
I never connected the dots about the federal level vs. The state level. That is an excellent point to use. (Also makes me love Ron Paul and all that he has fought for even more!)
Off to do some research on this subject! It honestly never occured to me to find out what spending the state was responsible for! Lol makes the case for state rights all more valuable! ! And easier to persuade people to look at things a little differently.
Thanks bermein!!
WE are Ron Paul or WE need to be
WE need to spread his message throughout this country and change the entire scope of politics. His plan all along has been education- Changing the dialogue from propagandist lies into truth.
Liberty is stronger than 1 man. 1 man can be attacked, persecuted or killed. Have WE forgotten? "An idea who's time has come cannot be stopped by any army or govt" WE need to continue his message! The more WE are attacked, while speaking only peace, the stronger we become... by exposing our attackers with the truth.
If we allow the divide and conquer tactics that are currently under way to continue, what was all that hell the good Dr went through even for?
by nature
Humans are predisposed to grouping. Ingroups, outgroups. They are playing on our biology. And when we have only two choices... its easy to keep dumb people in line.
Welcome!
You may want to read some of Chris Duane - he talks about the left/right paradigm and unplugging yourself from it.
Because it is...
Because it is easier said than done! I struggle with some cognitive dissonance even now with the left/right thing... So easy to fall for their traps... even if ya know better. Lol
This and NDAA seem to wake a lot of people up I have found.
the corporatist keep perpetuating this left right thing
and it works by dividing us while they steal our life liberty and treasure -people fall right into the trap because they hate or fear something but they fail to realize that freedom solves all problems if you're big enough to tollerate the freedom of others. Personally I don't have time to care what others do as long as I'm free..
Government is supposed to protect our freedom, our property, our privacy, not invade it. Ron Paul 2007

I had this breakthrough
I had this breakthrough reading all of the posts in here.
We are like the billiard table... not the balls crashing into each other. We are the context for the billiard balls to exist. Stripes and Solids - Odds and Evens -- Doesn't matter as long as we're all free.
