The Ron Paul picture is gone...
Submitted by Katniss Everdeen on Wed, 09/05/2012 - 22:07I know that the Daily Paul is moving past focusing on Ron Paul's 2012 campaign, but did the Ron Paul picture on the right of the DP really have to get taken down? After all, our movement and this website IS still inspired by the good doctor even if it's no longer mainly about getting him elected. And that's all the picture said: "The Daily Paul is inspired by Ron Paul". Now there is nothing about him, not even a smaller picture. Does anyone else feel the same way?
Nystrom Update: Please see my response in this comment, below. Thank you.

Respectfully to Michael, It IS your site
but, I want a photo back.
Are you going to name the site something other than the Daily 'Paul' (or P-AU-L) ... as the perception problem you are attempting to avoid will only persist. (via the name)
Purpose
To keep Dr. Paul’s ideas and message of Peace, Sound Money and Liberty alive through discussion and practice.
thank you for running the site.
I vote...
...to put Dr. Paul's picture back up, and, while we're on the subject, to change the L in P.AU.L. from Love to Liberty.
...but, fellow DPers, don't start thinking this is a democracy around here. It isn't, and I hope it stays that way. Nystrom can do what he wants.
Yeah!!
I always thought the L did stand for Liberty.
Did it change at sometime?
.
Bring Ron Paul back!
“It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till." -J.R.R. Tolkien
yea fuck this
yea fuck this
So . .
. . When is it coming back?
Buuuuuuuuuump (Again)
Bump. Put Paul's Picture Back!
Could
Michael make it so that PAID dp users can see the good doc?
There is no reason I can think of
to take Ron Paul's photo down. Why remove the photo of the one who inspired this blog? I've seen blogs that have images of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, a 1776 revolutionary solidier... or is that made valid because they are all deceased?
Our inspiration is still living, still active in the cause for Liberty and may even run in 2016 because he has the foresight to understand that by 2016 even more people will be hungry for an honest man who will right the wrongs of this most vile government that strips and bleeds the People of all individual rights and property. Turning Dr Paul to 'gold' is not the answer. What good is gold if we are bound and chained to tyranny? What use does a slave have of gold? As Aristole said, money is barren and gives birth to nothing. We are freedom fighters, not greedy moneychangers.
The real gold is our Liberty and the living testament to that cause is Ronald Earnest Paul. We debase ourselves when 'gold' takes prominence.
This blog should continue to honor him and not 'money'.
If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

Put his pic back please. I'm
Put his pic back please.
I'm a paranoid enough person to believe GJ is controlled opposition, I don't have trouble believing that the DP has served a similar role, meant to corral, control, and monitor. It seems DP has been trying to move us away from RP for some time now, just like a good little judas sheep is supposed to do, follow me little sheep, to the controlled opposition party, er uh I mean the LP. And yes I realize I've only been a member for a couple of months but I've read this site since last election so I'm no newb or troll. That is just what I've always felt which is why I didn't join. Damn me and my stupid need to comment that made me sign up! Lol.
We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. ~ George Orwell
Please Michael
Put Dr. Ron Pauls picture back at the top of "The Daily Paul"
The Right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be Infringed!
"You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." Isoroku Yamamoto, Japanese Admiral
Consider how this can help reach new people...
Like it or not a lot of people have a lot of negative and false impressions of Ron Paul. The media did their job and many still think he is a racist among other things.
The Daily Paul gets most of it's visitors from search results. That means that a lot of people who come here are NOT Ron Paul supporters. Our movement has agreement with both sides of the aisle and so people searching for the news find their way to the Daily Paul on a multitude of subjects.
Ask yourself exactly what happens when one of these people, who think the worst of Dr. Paul, land on this site? If they see the picture the media's programming will kick in and they will click off of the site as quickly as they can.
Can't you just imagine what they think?
"Oh, it's that wack job Ron Paul and one of his kooky fan sites"
"Not this racist again!"
and so on..
Ultimately the picture is a distraction for those who do not yet understand our message and who have their minds closed about Ron Paul.
I think Michael is making the right choice and that closer examination reveals our movement will benefit from his decision.
Breaking news and analysis from the liberty perspective
Where was your attitude on this
when you were harvesting email addresses and federal reserve notes for the Ron Paul blimp Trevor?
You know good and well that the name Trevor Lyman would have just been an anonymous screen name like Ozark Hillbilly if it wasn't for attaching Ron Paul's name to your endeavor.
Opportunistic people such as yourself are the real detriment to the liberty movement. Not the man who is the pivotal ICON of the liberty movement.
I truly hope the name Trevor Lyman goes the way of the name Ozark Hillbilly: Trevor who?
Man, I really don't like to resort to personal attacks but this comment you made is a disservice to all those who have been personally attacked (like Ron Paul himself) for standing on the fundamental principles upon which this country was founded.
Hundreds of the people you just wrote-off with your comment are personal friends of mine and I do not appreciate you blowing off their efforts so you can "market" your product.
I say you never were about the Message of Liberty but were/are just another Marketing Salesman wanting to wrap yourself in a politically correct blanket of "I don't want to attach Ron Paul's name to myself or my product any longer because I might offend someone."
Now now now, knock it off
Knock it off, you're not permitted by the Know What's Best Committee to spout like that.
Honest truth hurts 'em here from time to time.
Well, you have been here a long time.. not be insulting but pokin' a little fun at the Know What's Best Committee.
That is a shameful post. We're supposed to
knuckle under to MSM smears and not continue to proudly honor the man who inspired us all and expanded the Liberty movement beyond imagining a few short years ago?
If you and the Mods and Michael are so concerned about the DP being "tarnished" by a photo of Ron Paul, why are you so complacent about allowing the few real racists on this site to post with no curbs?
Finally, if the concern is that Newbies and the Uninformed think we are influenced ONLY by Ron Paul, I'd suggest a photo bar at the top including the top movement thinkers: Ron Paul, Mises, Rothbard, and as many others as are deemed major forces in the evolution of the Liberty movement. This solution would surely satisfy both the majority who want Paul's photo back and those squeamish about any perception he is the only influence.
As if they couldn't figure it out by even the most casual glance
Are you really saying that this was a marketing decision to appeal to an audience that gets turned off when they see paul?
What terrible reasoning in the face of so many base dissenters.
Dare I remind you that breakthematrix splintered off when you knuckleheads made the same decision about not talking about 9/11?
That was 90 percent of your base you alienated.
Rule no 1 of marketing: know your audience!
You can not be serious!
This has already been covered, It is ridiculous thinking.
So You are hiding Ron Paul because you are embarrassed with him?
I can see you point about the media doctrination, I just thinking your completely wrong.
Ron Paul is the avenue!, We are going to promote him in REAL LIFE, and then send people to the daily paul, they will come here BECAUSE they want to read about him.
The others that come here, and are put off by simply seeing his picture and think "Oh . . that guy", they are not ready for ANY discussion, they need to learn some more first because thier minds are completely closed.
Ron Paul IS the focal point, and I will be promoting RON PAUL's Prinicples. .NOT THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY, NOT THE R's or the D's or any politician who does not stand by those prinicples.
I will be promoting Ron Paul and his principles till the day I die, just the same as Jefferson is still being promoted today!
So you want to hide Ron Paul's picture because
you're embarrassed by him? It's pretty obvious from this being the Daily PAUL that this is part of the Ron Paul r3VOLution. Plus, there are posts about him on the side. People are more likely to be scared away by posts about the fetus being a parasite or 9/11 truth than a picture of the good doctor. Like it or not, Ron Paul is the inspiration for the liberty movement and there's no reason to hide that fact. And it's him AND his ideas I will continue to promote.
Taking down Ron Paul's picture from the DP is like taking down George Washington's famous portrait from the White House because he's dead and not president anymore. He is still the father of our country just like Ron Paul is still the father of our r3VOLution.

I second what Trevor says.
He's right, and so is the Daily Paul for making the decision.
This site was never intended to be some "Ron Paul only or get lost you troll" cesspool of rude remarks toward outsiders. This has been made clear in Mr. Nystrom's comments for a long while for those that have not detached from the Ron Paul nipple long enough to notice. It was intended to bring new people to the message and let them absorb it at their own pace.
Unfortunately, Trevor is correct, you people can't expect everyone that shows up here to just fall in line. The media has done its job, and very well. That picture will immediately send newcomers that might be persuaded, out of here faster than you can blink your eye.
If you went to a site following a link and saw a Romney picture, would you hang?
I agree with Mr. Nystrom's decision, and I agree with Trevor as well.
The object is bring people to the message. You won't do that by making it look like, or saying "Ron Paul or GTFO."
You're not going to reach new
You're not going to reach new people by being dishonest. We've got pictures of Obama and Hillary on the ads, put Paul back at the freakin top!
I don't see the dishonesty in
I don't see the dishonesty in making the site more about the overall message of liberty (rather than a specific individual) as I believe 'spreading the message' is the primary reason for this sites existence.
Every time someone lands on a liberty oriented website and actually begins to read the article before forming an opinion is an opportunity to change hearts and minds. Don't let an emotional attachment keep you from seeing how you interface with those you want to influence.
Breaking news and analysis from the liberty perspective
You do not understand,
You do not understand, Trevor. I agree this site need no longer be about an individual. I'm convinced that it will become a place to discuss liberty and the Constitution. But to people like me who found DP because of Ron Paul...who spent 5 years here barely missing a single day all because of Ron Paul(unless the site was down due to upgrades and growing pains in those early years,) to see Ron Paul's picture fading away and then entirely removed, was as if these past 5 years didn't matter.
Michael Nystrom is an artist. I'm convinced he could redo the banner at the top with a likeness of the man who brought many or most of us here....if only to honor what Ron Paul meant to me and others in this life altering journey. The likeness could be subtle if Michael likes. Yet it would honor the man who inspired this site that is if anything, a teaching machine.
What's wrong with it being about a specific individual? It's
specific individuals that create anything good in this world and inspire others. We honor many specific individuals such as our Founders. Just making it a generic "liberty site" will not be the same and I don't think will be as effective.
Debbie
Agreed. The site is already
Agreed. The site is already called 'The Daily Paul', folks! The site will always honor Ron Paul and be proud of him, just as all of us are proud to wear Ron Paul gear, etc. Remember, Ron Paul himself said, "It's not about me, it's about the message!".
Jason
Happy Libertarian
We believe
IN RON PAULS PRINCIPLES of Liberty, Nobody elses, and Definatly not Gary Johnsons.
I will be promoting Ron Paul and his principles and policies to the day I die.
Ron Paul understand True Freedom, It is people listening to what HE has to say, that will wake them up, In my entire lifetime ONLY RON PAUL was able to wake me up!
Please
Please put Dr. Paul's picture back up. It made my heart smile every time I logged on to the Daily Paul.
My 2 cents
- I would like to see the pic of Ron back.
Please!
Ron Paul is My President
my guess is
that this was not some philosophical decision but either a) a technical issue or b) just a change up to the design of the site.
either way, I don't think the man who has been one of the hardest-core RP supporters out there and is *still* running a site called the Daily Paul has anything but love for the man.

here's the thing
i'm pretty much going to post in this thread once a day until brought back.
