Doug Wead says Ron Paul could STILL run in 2016

Seriously, he's not being facetious :

Is Ron Paul too old? Not for me. Konrad Andenauer , Germanys greatest leader of the last two centuries was in power at age 87. Michelangelo began painting the Sistine Chapel at age 71, he was still at it when he died at age 89. The Biblical account of Moses has him beginning his long journey, leading the Israelis from slavery, at age 80. Let Ron Paul lead us out of slavery at age 80.

Here’s a toast to Ron Paul, 2016.

But what do we do now? And more urgent, how should we vote in the 2012 presidential election?

The good news is that as befits the Liberty Movement, I don’t have to make that decision. Each one of us will do that as we want. But here are some of the arguments I am hearing.

What He Said on Leno

Dr. Paul said he was resting up for 2016...I hope it's to do more than entrust his campaign to the assclown wannabes of the GOP.

Do as you will...I'm not "resting up" - there is PLENTY to do while there is still daylight - when darkness arrives, it will be too late to do anything.

Be seeing you.

Don't forget though, Romney and his gang changed the rules precisely so someone like Paul could not primary him in 2016 if he wins.

"Be a listener only, keep within yourself, and endeavor to establish with yourself the habit of silence, especially on politics." -Thomas Jefferson

Paul could challenge him in a 2016 primary

But he would actually have to win the primaries in order to beat Romney. The stealth delegate strategy got a stake stuck through its heart.

Come on, guys. We all want

Come on, guys. We all want Paul as President, but seriously. You really think he is going to run at 80- years old?

This is akin to not getting over an ex that left you... time to take the torch and move on..

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I believe Dr. Paul is moving on...book tours, speaking engagements, etc.

Be seeing you.

Sorry, it's nothing personal

Sorry, it's nothing personal with you, but this kind of dwelling on his age pisses me off.

I've recently read several comments about it and I can't stand it any longer. Why can't you just let this good man speak for himself? Why do you have to repeat it over and over that he is already 77 years old and will be 81 in 2016, although there is no need to comment on it any further.

Let Ron Paul decide for himself what he wants to do and support his decision. I think there is nobody who knows better what he can handle except himself.

However, take a close look at him and ask yourself the question if there are any signs of his age. You're making a number on a sheet of paper to the end all, be all.

2016 always possible, but if not, what's best for the movement?

I would go hog wild for Ron Paul in 2016, but I won't hold my breath. With that said, I've been pondering about the future direction of the liberty movement for some time. Now that it's apparent the good doctor isn't going to get the nomination, I'm wondering what is the best design to follow to achieve an enormous unified organization under at least a basic platform? Other post have discussed leaving each individual to do as he or she feels best, but I'm speaking more in terms of a united front under one......name....party...organization?

I really do like the idea ( for the time being )of essentially taking over the GOP from within and ousting establishment folks, but I fear that we might lose Democrats and Independents that are having the very same awakening as us old Republicans are. I also love the idea of a third party, but there are good points against it, at least for this time around.

To keep this quick reading...

How to we get disenfranchised, awakened Libertarian party, Tea party, Constitution party, Republican party, Democratic party, Reform party etc... under one banner?

How we get the masses of people that follow Judge Napolitano, Mike Church, Alex Jones, Kevin Trudeau, Bob Chapman, Tom Woods, Jesse Ventura, Ron Paul etc. to pitch/push for one future organization and help be the watchdog for it. Yes, I know not everyone agrees with some of those figures mentioned, but they do all have listeners that can unite on a basic platform.

How do we get the Ron Paul and Liberty web sites to unite or at least contribute to one future organization while maintaining their individuality?

I would like to see the top leaders and talking heads of the liberty movement get together and hash out the best course of action. Sure there will be disagreements, but the way to beat the empire is from a united rebellion with millions of people behind it. Power in numbers! It just seems to me that we are all individually doing our part and that's great, but I believe sooner or later we are going to have to pick a direction for the awakened masses to follow, participate, raise money, elect politicians and focus the talking heads on at least topics we can all agree on.

not feelin' it ....

vote third party

LIBERTY2ME's picture

If all Ron Paul people voted

If all Ron Paul people voted for GJ this election, than I think this would clinch the presidential election for Obama. GJ won't get enough votes to win. so I feel like a vote for GJ is in a way a vote for Obama....kinda risky.

How much...

is the Willard campaign paying you to spam this neocon shit?

I don't play, I commission the league.

Sheesh...I am far from a

Sheesh...I am far from a Romney supporter. If I was getting paid by Romney he'd fire me since I've talked people out of voting for him and into voting for Ron Paul.
All I'm saying is I don't think Gary Johnson will have enough votes to win. not because he shouldn't win, not because I don't want him to win, but because I don't think he can win. All of you people that down voted me, are you saying that you think he can win? If so how do you come to this conclusion after you have seen what happened to Ron Paul and we all know here that Ron Paul is a lot more well known and has a hell of a lot more support than GJ...so I'm afraid to vote for him because I think it will pull votes away from Romney (who I don't want to win either)but this would in turn help Obama (who frankly scares the crap out of me too). This is why I called it "risky". We are not in a good place. We have very bad options for president and we will loose whether it is Romney or Obama for president. Frankly, as I've said in another post, I don't know if I should just suck it up and deal with Obama for just 4 more years or deal with Romney's lying cheating smug smiling face for 8 years. To me the easy way out is to vote for Gary Johnson (who I would love to have win over these 2 jokers) but I don't believe he will have enough coverage or support to win, which brings me back to my original statement, that in voting for Gary it might help Obama.

If RP ran on the Libertaian ticket that would minimum

triple the vote. I agree with you Mr. Wead, I think the most leverage my vote could get is voting GJ, if RP stays out.

I am AMAZED at how smart Doug Wead is. I really like this guy

and his reasoning is great.

His idea regarding voting for Gary Johnson is just like mine.

But Jesse Benton? - that guy is a clown.

Assclown...and Dr. Paul let HIM run the campaign. Some would say that's not Presidential-thinking...I say it fits - look at the assclowns working for Obama and Romney!

Be seeing you.

He gets my vote..

4 more years of the current will only help the numbers. I don't know about the rest of you but I can sense a very large number of folks are waking up to the message.

Has anyone thought of Dr. Paul in your enthusiasm?

Dr. Paul is a wonderful human being and in great shape for 76 years old. But in 2016 he'll be EIGHTY.

He has said over and over that he is retiring to spend time with his FAMILY. Carol Paul is not well.

The man owes you NOTHING. He has devoted 40 years of his life to the advancement of liberty and now wants to enjoy his retirement.

He has spent MILLIONS of DOLLARS to create campaignforliberty.com for you. He has stated he wants us to take over the GOP.

If you respect the man, then give him the respect he's due. Quit looking for a messiah. It's in our hands and he's given us the direction and the tools.

If you do NOT avail yourself of them and make it happen, then you are not listening to what he says.

The Leno Show

Indy run not very likely.
Some time off to rest.
Dr. Paul said,"2016".
Watch the Leno show.

He said he was just kidding

He said he was just kidding right after that. Crowd got a little loud at that point though.

I believe he was kidding

Furthermore, I would never support another run, especially the way the campaign was handled. Dr. Paul is a great statesman, but he's not a general, and that's what we needed.

The best part of all this for me was the SUPPORTERS!

So, no way would I invest myself in another presidential run with Ron. He wasn't a fighter, and we needed that from him. I love Dr. Paul as much as any of us, but he just didn't have that fighter instinct in him , no offense to him. And besides, the elitist lock on the Media and our GOP/DEM structure is formidable.

Print the shirts and stickers now, PAUL2016.

Throw out: Jesse Benton, John

Throw out: Jesse Benton, John Tate, Rand Paul, Jack Hunter, Trygve Olson

On board: Ben Swann, Judge Nap, Tom Woods, Justin Amash, TMOT, Matt Larsen

I think 3rd party is the way

I think 3rd party is the way to go at this point. RP keeps saying he would be marginalized, not participate in the debates, etc. All that was true in 1988, and he has every right to think the way he does given his past experiences, but we live in a totally different world now than in 1988. All this strategy regarding how to play the Dems and the Repubs like we are able to outsmart them is ridiculous. Do people not realize that they are controlled by the same group of elitist pricks that think they have dominion over us? We aren't going to win this by changing the two parties, we are going to win by moving on and letting them die out. With the internet there is the ability to mobilize and spread ideas much faster, and under the radar of the MSM. Why is a 3rd party run so unthinkable? Its not 1988, its not 1998, its not even 2008, its a time when 3 quarters of Americans have computers and an internet connection and the free will to look at what they want. As RP activists, we all know it takes just a peak down the rabbit hole to get most people to jump in. I think its time we start consolidating behind something outside of the 2 party system. RP used the Republicans do have the biggest voice, not to win. Is that Rands strategy too? Because he may be heard more, but he isn't going to win sh*t when it comes to it. They won't let him. We have to get outside the realm of anything controlled by the elite, and start anew. With people we know we can trust from the bottom up.

3rd party

will not get the same baises as those in the two party. Its sad that the MSM have a HUGE role in electing our reps, just look at the debates. I highly doubt GJ will get into them even with a tremendous Grassroots movement. unfortunately we do live in a two party system designed by TPTB to trick people into thinking they have a choice while marginalizing those in 3rd party so no one would vote for them.
I believe Ron Paul supporters keep looking at this campaign as a Failure when there were HUGE wins all over the country and continuing within this party. Public offices are seating Liberty minded people everywhere and all our efforts dwell within the GOP. its a LONG process but then so is everything else that represented Change.

I agree, we have made a huge

I agree, we have made a huge impact on the GOP in local municipalities and beyond. My issue is that all this work will be for nothing. I honestly believe the powers that be will do the exact same thing to local branches of the party that they did at the convention this year. They will put their foot on our throat and not let up. Unless somehow we become the leadership of the party, and by leadership I mean those that are beyond the party itself (the people that pull the strings), then maybe we can change it. I just dont see that happening.

There is no Leadership of the party

without its Majority.

well then I guess they'll

well then I guess they'll have to go 3rd party

or better yet

kick out these crony scumbags out of the GOP and into a 3rd party to be marginalized. Revenge is so bitter-sweet.

Drive the one of the final nails in the Republican coffin...

I thought the same thing.

More common sense from Mr. Wead

I also agree with Proud American below.

However we may not get to 2016 without an economic and monetary collapse and an all out war in the Middle East with nuclear weapons. One week is a long time in politics they say so four years is an eternity.

Dr. Paul is also on record that he doesn't like to plan too far ahead. That is wise. If we concentrate on what must be done today the future will turn out fine. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:34)

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

I know it's a cliche but...

I prefer striking while the iron is hot in most cases.. I can see a possible benefit for 2016 despite my desire to do it now. The nation will be that much more "ripe" for real change like what Dr.Paul is advocating and they'll hopefully be less naive to the single party tyranny we have now.
