Johnson Says Troops Over There Are "Keeping us safe."

"Our thoughts and our gratitude are also with the amazing men and women of our military who are putting themselves on the line every day to keep us safe." - Gary Johnson, Sept. 11, 2011

http://race42012.com/2011/09/11/gov-gary-johnson-statement-o...

Kowtowing to the cruel lie that is keeping us in chains. No, Gary, blowing Iraqi babies to bits and bombing Afghan wedding parties is not keeping us "safe." This is a fundamental part of the Ron Paul Revolution.

What's next? We need to fight them there so we don't have to fight them here? Civilian casualties are unfortunate but unavoidable?

Political courage is for every day of the week, not for when no one is watching and waiting to jump down your throat. When millions were watching is exactly when truth-tellers like Ron Paul tell us that they don't hate us for our freedoms...they hate us "because we're OVER THERE!"

See: "blowback."

You cannot defend the war machine and be a Libertarian. War is the enemy of liberty.

""Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes. And armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few." James Madison

911 is a Key Issue,

it led to so many wars, & loss of lives, rights, trust, money, time, etc. In the last 2 years I have seen at least 10 pages /threads on 911, and none of them were opened by me. Check my account, I have no forum posts, - no topics. I only comment - on what interests me, where I can add a little.. not bothering anyone on DP, - except ~ ~ ?

re GJ, I know little about him.

I call SPIN!

The author adds the words "Over There" to the title to add his spin. The quote is: "Our thoughts and our gratitude are also with the amazing men and women of our military who are putting themselves on the line every day to keep us safe." Do you see the words "Over There" anywhere in this quote? I signed a contract that included my life in defense of the constitution when I joined the Army in 85. Even though I never went to war I put my life on the line when I signed that contract.

What cable news network do you hate the most? This post is as bad as any cable news bloviating that I have ever heard. All opinion and no substance. Have fun knocking down a liberty candidate in favor of one who is no longer running. You are a great asset to the liberty movement!

PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT

when they CLAIM that Gary Johnson supports AID to ISRAEL or he is PRO-WAR.. He is BEST CANDIDATE we have on the BALLOT, Ron Paul is NOT on the ballot.. Lets unite and vote for Gary

I just love it....

When someone comes in an downvotes all the rational arguments, and upvotes the empty rhetoric without actually even attempting to form a debate.

Keep it up!

Downvote every rational argument, and upvote the empty rhetoric without ever adding anything to the debate at all! Secure your legacy as paintchip eating retards!

They need to make it so you cannot downvote a comment without actually responding to it first.

Do you prefer Frito Lay paint

Do you prefer Frito Lay paint chips? I like 'em organic.

No vote for Johnson

if he is another war neo con

.

.

Yeah it's easy to accuse someone of being "another war neo con"

Without actually telling us why he is, when every good piece of evidence I can find would indicate the exact opposite. I guess if you like praising people who misquote him, as evidence he's just "another war neo con", there's no hope for you anyway.

I mean, I've had like 5 very strong double or triple sized gin and tonics tonight, plus some brandy and sodas... but I can still at least form a coherent argument.

I'd like to know what motivates folks like you... Is it sniffing glue in addition to your life long habit of eating lead paintchips, that compels you to make such worthless comments?

Here you go lazy butts

Gary Johnson is AGAINST aid to Israel! Gary Johnson has ALWAYS been agains the war in Iraq! Look under his "War and Peace" stand and voting record, you may be very surprised when you see the truth. As far as his foreign policy, he is Ron Paul but I do disagree with his sales tax instead of the IRS and Capital Gains tax stand. I don't want to see sales tax on homes and I think Wall Street traders who make millions on trades in a single day should be taxed at the same rate as a working man including SS. But the President doesn't determine this issue, CONGRESS does! In fact, Congress determines EVERYTHING except military issues. We are voting for a Commander and Chief, NOT someone that determines taxes! Besides, I like the way that his veto record is so high....maybe we wouldn't be in the financial fix that we are in if he had vetoed alot of this garbage like Obamacare. Vote on a Candidate for what is important! Repealing the Patriot Act! Repealing the NDAA! Bringing the troops HOME! We need a President that can repeal ALL of the Presidential Directives that the previous Presidents have used to take away our Liberty! Here's the link, do your homework, look at other sites before you vote for Romney or Obama or just chose to stay home. This is our future!

From the link:

We can no longer afford to shell out billions in foreign aid. (Feb 2012)
No foreign aid spending unless it protects U.S. interests. (Nov 2011)

Then in an interview he says we must be allies with Israel.
http://youtu.be/fbF0vOAqdP4

I don't doubt he considers that "U.S. interests"

A bit vague

Yet RP would not even consider using this kind of phrase.

GJ seems to be seeking disgruntled GOP members imo.

The title is very misleading...

The title reads - Johnson says troops over there are keeping us safe - while the quote reads - "...putting themselves on the line everyday to keep us safe."

This is a HUGE difference. The first statement implies a certain intent with respect to Johnson while the actual quote places the intent with the soldiers implying that the soldiers believe that they are keeping America safe by fighting.

This post is disingenuous to say the least.

I hope everyone realizes that Johnson opposed Iraq from the very beginning, he spoke out against intervention in Libya, and he continues to speak out about Iran.

The proof is in the pudding - not in Sue4theBillofrights' spinning of a quote.

LOL Where else are troops "putting themselves on the line every

day" to "keep us safe?" The Walmart? Over there is not in the quotation marks. And it is implied because there is nowhere else the military is fighting and "putting themselves on the line every day" but "over there."

We are in two major land wars. Remember?

After we invaded Iraq Bush said "They came to our shores looking for war and war is what they got" in order to connect Iraq with 9/11. He was careful never to say "Iraq." But everyone knew what he meant.

Don't come here trying to lawyer your way out of what Johnson said, and knew perfectly well how it would be taken. You Johnson people disgust me.

Release the Sandy Hook video.

I put my life on the line when I signed the Army contract.

I never went to war but when I signed a contract with the US Army in 85 I put my life on the line. One of the possible outcomes of enlisting was that I would die in the defense of my country. When you diminish our troops and give your post a big old spin by adding the words "Over There" to your title with all its bloviating I would say that you disgust me!

Give it up Sue...

It's obvious you want to push your constitution party candidate who wants to legislate morality from the federal government and continue the war on drugs. Oh... not to mention who voted AGAINST reducing the number of troops in Iraq!

You're a liar and a con-artist.

I'm not for the Constitution Party. I'm writing in Ron Paul

//

Release the Sandy Hook video.

So you do not deny you are a liar?

Who misquoted Johnson and spun his quote to fit your own narrative?

If Johnson trolls don't even understand that the idea that

they are "keeping us safe" by bombing Iraqis and Afghanistan is at the core of the Orwellian conditioning behind 9/11, which has justified unspeakable atrocities in our name, then we don't have time for them.

There is no way to "spin" keeping us safe. That IS the spin, Dr. Paul would never use it, and Gary Johnson does when it suits him. His stated opposition to the Iraq War just means he is another politician who talks out both sides of his mouth.

Release the Sandy Hook video.

Like I said - Who chose the words "over there" - You did...

You're demagogueing the issue to your side by perverting what Johnson said to fit what you want his intent to be.

The unmolested quote places the intent with the troops. That is - Johnson was expressing gratitude to the troops for potentially sacrificing their lives by joining and fighting in the military on behalf of their nation (logically implying that at least a portion of the troops feel that they are fighting to "keep us safe").

The statement was a poor choice of words in my opinion, but they are not as vile as you are spinning them to be. Looking at the track record of Johnson - which is much more important than a single quote - he has clearly been on the right side of several important issues: Against Iraq from the beginning; Wants to bring the troops home from Afghanistan now; Has been against Iran the entire time. His only questionable stance was on Kony, and at that, he only said he would do so with Congressional approval (following the Constitution). Further, he said he would ask for an all volunteer force (which is akin to using Marque & Reprisal).

You are narrowly focusing on a single statement. It's analogous to choosing a husband or a wife by only looking at what their toenails look like. Narrow fixation is unproductive and is meaningless without wider corroboration. Particularly in this instance where Johnson has been on the right side of many of the major foreign policy issues of our day where others were blind to the reality at the time (such as Iraq).

He said "IF" and was criticizing Obama on Kony

The video that people that can't accept the fact that Ron Paul is no longer running roll out to attack Johnson is a hypothetical conversation about Kony and he stated that congress passed the resolution and then he criticized Obama for acting without a plan and said "If I had signed the legislation" and the entire conversation was hypothetical. Watch it without looking for reasons to attack Gary and you will get an entirely different impression.

Thank you for the clarification, though I think

your criticisms of sue are a bit harsh. You yourself say that Gary's statement was unclear. One of the main reasons so many of us are wary of Gary (no rhyme intended) is due to his lack of clarity on foreign policy, his lack of a fundamental consistent principle, as has been rather lacking in several major policy areas.

And far from being narrow focus, foreign policy for many at this site is so MAJOR it is decisive. I personally cannot vote for anyone I suspect might be swayed by the military-industrial complex. Gary seems less likely than obvious tools ObamRomney, but for Ron Paul supporters used to crystalline clarity and proven consistency over decades, the leap to confidence in Gary is difficult.

It really is up to Gary and his PR people to come up with better statements rather than up to libertarians to just go on faith because of the LP label. I wish Gary well and hope he does convert many to Liberty. I hope he gets into the debates, etc. and becomes an educational force following in the footsteps of Ron Paul.

People who demagogue the issue deserve the harshest of criticism

... I'm sick and tired of these writers making articles which are obviously meant to draw attention to themselves, rather than actually trying to create rational debate.

It's also ironic she's accusing others of being trolls, when I can't think of a better term for her.

She's obviously trying to get votes for her fascist party operating under the guise of the "constitution".

See her below post here:

http://www.dailypaul.com/253778/constitution-party-a-natural...

I ask the mods that the title be changed...

Is Sue's last name Hearst?

The title should read - Johnson shows gratitude for military men and women putting their lives on the line with the goal of keeping us safe

There is no good way to shorten it without sacrificing the intent of the original statement.

This is yellow journalism.

Agreed... if the current title isn't an outright lie...

It is at best a distortion of the truth.

Edit: What am I saying? It is an outright lie!

America ignorance

they worship the military as if it were Jesus Christ or by words they do. there is no way right now to win the public by speaking the truth about the military and what and who they are. You basically have to keep your agenda and lie and fool the public and than when your in power you can do what you want, that is probably Rand Pauls plan. its amazing how easy and stupidly neo cons fell for Rands fake endorsement not knowing what Rand has really said behind the scenes. the record is the best indicator and as long as its good you can stick with them.

What about the view

that Rand has been a useful idiot for the neocons?
Now Rand is out in the wilderness, trusted by neither the neocons or by half of the Liberty movement.
Allowing the neocons to get inside Ron Paul HQ with Trygve Olsen who helped to wreck the campaign.
GOP retards now think Rand fully supports Romney, that it is only his father that is being stupid in not endorsing Romney.
That Rand is "now a good republican" - seen that posted by several.
That it will be his father who is to blame when Romney loses heavily, because his father is being stupid in not toeing the line (aka Ron Paul was not a good Stalinist).

Perception is everything in politics.

N.B. I totally agree with your first statement.
Americans worship the military.

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

The quote would be fine if

The quote would be fine if the last 4 words were not said.

Those words "keep us safe" are post-9/11 trigger words

Johnson was shameless enough to use them. The blood of a million innocent Iraqis has paid for those words.
