Ron Paul for Governor of Texas?

Let's put down the squabbling and unite on a new topic.

Texas needs a good governor after many years of "Slick" Rick Perry.

Perry comes up for re-election in 2014.

From Wikipedia: The gubernatorial election is held every four years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November and does not coincide with the presidential elections. The governor is sworn-in on the third Tuesday of January every four years along with the lieutenant governor, so Perry and current Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst both began new terms on January 18, 2011, which end on January 20, 2015.

I do not believe Ron Paul is "too old" to run for Governor or Senate.

Perry's forces beat Debra Medina in 2010 with the help of the MSM and Glenn Beck. But I do not believe they could stop Ron Paul.

He should do it, and with

He should do it, and with Benton out of the picture he stands a chance of winning.

I recall RP saying something

I recall RP saying something in the past few years about having more interest in national politics after being asked about running for governor.

RP would be a great governor, though. I would even consider moving to TX if RP was the governor of TX!

I cant believe Rick is

I cant believe Rick is running again.
I hope RP wins, and since texas does not have term limits... stays governor for 20 more years.

Just him announcing

Would bring millions of liberty-minded Americans from across the country to the lonestar state, I bet.

"Truth is Treason in an Empire that lies" - Ron Paul

Educate the masses, and win in the end.

I think despite the bias of the news media, it could be amazing.

A Texas-based Ron Paul revolution would be hard to stop.

He doesn't WANT to run for Senate or Governor. Why is that hard

to understand?

I Don't Recall Dr. Paul saying he didn't want to run for Senate

or Governor. Please indicate your source here (link). I am still hoping he will run as President for LP party. Waiting for Gary Johnson to graciously come to his senses and meet with Ron Paul. If Gary doesn't, I bet all Gary Johnson supporters that he will not win the election. I know, I pissed a lot of you off but you have been pissing a lot of us off for months now. I only speak the truth and only Ron Paul has a chance to win the seat Gary is in now. Go ahead, challenge me, make my day!

Please indicate YOUR source where he said he DID want to run

for senate or governor or to be a plumber.

Stop making stupid assumptions if you cannot.

I don't think anyone is

I don't think anyone is holding a gun to his head to run for anything. I also don't think Dr Paul would have a problem with people talking about how great he would be as governor or senator. In fact I think he would be flattered. To be honest, I hope people pushing for him to run forces him to endorse and suggest candidates that are like minded to run. A Ron Paul endorsed governor is almost as good as Ron Paul himself.

Has he stated that?

I was just wondering--he didn't want to run for President after 2008...and then he did it anyway.

He hasn't specifically stated he doesn't want to be a plumber

either. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to retire from the Congress and be a plumber.

I'm sorry, your analogy is confusing.

I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you comparing becoming Governor of the most powerful state in the Union to being a plumber?

So which jobs are you assigning to Ron Paul that he never said

he wanted?

King of England is pretty important - just like Governor of Texas. Maybe we should have him be that?

After all, just like Governor of Texas, he has never said he DOESN'T want to be King of England, so according to your definition the job is appropriate.

Actually we would be much better off with a plumber as Governor.

The crap is really backing up down here in Texas!

If you do not understand the analogy, I cannot simplify it for

you further. I am sorry but there are limitations in everything.

You might want to see what special services are available for the mentally deficient in your area.

No, first you need to come up with an analogy that isn't stupid.

Then it won't require any explanation.

He ought to retire to florida

He ought to retire to florida and become our governor, we have a slick rick of our own. I sure hope he runs for governor, that would be so cool. What if there were 50 Ron Paul governors? Would be very interesting.

Sorry but California needs him more. Carol would love the sun-

shine and great weather year round. If fact, I will be moving from California just because the state is in so much trouble financially and I am not going to bail them out. Also a lot of business and people are leaving the state. They just continue to spend, spend, spend. Now they need to tax, tax, tax, and I am not going to pay anymore taxes. We pay more taxes than most states and I have had enough. Thinking of moving to Oregon or Washington. If Ron were to be our Governor, I would stay and move up to northern California. On second thought, I would move to Texas if he were Governor. I come over and help him win it.

How is Ron Paul on the Death Penalty?

In Texas, this is a major issue.

He opposes the Federal death penalty.

Whether he would likewise oppose the death penalty at the State level is a question that has never been asked since he has always designed his policies to apply only to the Federal government.

The reason he opposes the Federal death penalty is because it is applied disproportionately to minorities and poor people. In other words the Federal Justice system is corrupt and treats different individuals differently based upon their ethnicity and their wealth. Therefore Dr. Paul's position is a Biblically correct one. I believe the same would apply at the State level if the same conditions applied.

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

As I understood it, he was at one time for the death penalty

He changed his position on it. Your points are correct, I would like to add with the relatively recent DNA evidence that has proven many were given the death penalty that were innocent, had caused his change in position. I don't have the link but I do recall him discussing it.

You Are Correct, he talks about it in his Liberty Defined book

He got me to change my view on the death penalty after reading why he did. Such a wise man!

Against it

Do we have a citation on that?

I'd think he'd be against, too, but I've never read his views on the death penalty.

He used to be for it but now

He used to be for it but now is against it because he feels that it is administered unfairly between the rich and the poor. Also he says that mistakes have been made in the past where innocent people were killed. Pretty much why I am against it.

Sort of like his position on immigration?

He is for greater control over immigration, but doesn't trust the government to do it fairly on a large scale?

Everyone who has ever said "I

Everyone who has ever said "I love Ron Paul...except on foreign policy" wouldn't have anything to hold against him, since the governor of Texas has nothing to do with foreign policy. Then again, by 2014 Texas might want to seriously consider seceding from the union which might be UN instead of US.

Seriously, by 2014 many of Ron Paul's prophecies will have come true and he will command even more respect from most Republicans. And in addition to Galveston, he's quite popular around Houston and Austin. I think, given what Medina did, Ron Paul would win in a landslide. We really need to make this our new cause.

I agree with you.

This cause can be achieved.

I sense that Ron Paul is tired of Washington politics, and I can't blame him. But this is Texas. He loves his home in Lake Jackson, near the town of Surfside Beach. He is a much bigger celebrity than Debra Medina, who got nearly 20% of the GOP vote running against Perry.
