Modern-day wheat is a 'chronic poison,' says doctor

(NaturalNews) All set to order that next sandwich on wheat bread? Using wheat-based pasta instead of regular spaghetti noodles tonight because you've been told wheat-based foods are better for you? Not so fast, says one doctor.

William Davis, a cardiologist, calls modern-day wheat a "chronic, perfect poison" in a his book, Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health, which is all about the world's most popular grain.

What gives? Davis says the wheat we are currently eating isn't the same thing your grandparents used back in the day. Modern wheat is "an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the '60s and '70s," he told CBS' "This Morning" program in a recent interview. "This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there's a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It's not gluten," he said.

"I'm not addressing people with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. I'm talking about everybody else because everybody else is susceptible to the gliadin protein that is an opiate," Davis continued.

"This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year."

Wheat poison found its way to CBS newsreel . 5 minutes.

September 3, 2012 9:28 AM

Morning News, CBS Television Modern wheat is a "perfect, chronic poison," according to Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who has published a book all about the world's most popular grain.

Davis said that the wheat we eat these days isn't the wheat your grandma had: "It's an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the '60s and '70s," he said on "CBS This Morning." "This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there's a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It's not gluten. I'm not addressing people with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. I'm talking about everybody else because everybody else is susceptible to the gliadin protein that is an opiate. This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year."

"100 thousands of people are losing 30, 80, 150 pounds. Diabetics become no longer diabetic; people with arthritis having dramatic relief. People losing leg swelling, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and on and on every day."

To avoid these wheat-oriented products, Davis suggests eating "real food," such as avocados, olives, olive oil, meats, and vegetables. "(It's) the stuff that is least likely to have been changed by agribusiness," he said. "Certainly not grains. When I say grains, of course, over 90 percent of all grains we eat will be wheat, it's not barley... or flax. It's going to be wheat.

Vegan Diet Best

For optimal health eat an unprocessed vegan diet. Vegetables and fruit are highest in vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Food from animals are associated with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

While most would agree that a diet high in vegetables and a bit of fruit is necessary, it is interesting to note that of all of the cultures on earth who have the longest life spans, none of them are vegetarian or vegan.

Animal fats and proteins are highly beneficial to man. It's how they are treated and cooked that can be problematic.

Disagree.

I'm a life long vegetarian and have been intermittently vegan. Currently I enjoy cheese and cream in my coffee, at times. I work out 5 days a week and do various recreational sports, I have athletic bradycardia usually in the low to mid 50's and my systolic blood pressure is usually in the 1-teens! My 14 yr old daughter is a strict vegan(her choice) and runs a 6min mile and can do one arm pull ups! She is also a gymnast. We try to only buy organic and stay away from excessive wheat...probably even more so after reading this article!! I recommend the movie 'Forks Over Knives' if you are interested in learning about the benefits of a plant based diet.

Same Here

Some of the smartest people I know have been vegetarians.
Remember that people like Weird Al, Leondardo Da Vinci, and Paul McCartney, and Albert Einstein have said they were vegetarian.

I think the quote used was to look at people who were eating A LOT of wheat - refined, non-organic, genetically modified, low-quality wheat. Being vegetarian does NOT mean you are eating healthy, it just means you aren't eating animals... so deep fried, sugary, over-cooked, old, rotten, and non-organic/gentically modified foods would fit into a (poor) vegetarian diet.

A lot of people who change to a vegetarian diet do so for good reasons and get a lot of health benefits from the change in diet. Definitely put efforts into looking at these fine examples of diet instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Yes it is.

Modern day wheat acts as an opiate to the mind of a child. My 10 year old son has Asperger's Syndrome, and we recently changed him to a gluten-free casein-free diet. It has really helped him. Thanks for posting this.

UG99???

UG99 is still spreading and is mutating: http://gantdaily.com/2012/09/03/another-strain-of-deadly-whe...

I wonder if UG99 has anything to do with this type of news regarding wheat being a 'chronic poison.' Maybe there is a behind the scenes effort to lower demand for wheat as UG99 spreads & destroys more crops.

A few years ago some agriculture expert said in an interview about UG99 that it is a matter of when, not if, UG99 gets into the US. All it takes is one single spore & the odds of that happening are very high.

...

Grow yer own...

I'm interested in knowing more about this - I can tell you from
experience that, at least where I live, growing wheat is easier
than growing vegetables. You have to deal with harvesting and
processing, but when you get down to it, it can all be done with
the simplest of hand tools.

You can grow enough for a fair bit of bread/pasta or whatever
in a decent sized suburban yard (if the local code enforcement
gestapo doesn't send a swat team after you for doing it).

And if you get some safe, older varieties of wheat or barley
(barley requires more processing, if you're planning to eat it)
then you can save seeds from year to year.

If you live in an area of relatively mild winters you can probably
do winter wheat or barley and planting time is coming up soon!

I'm surprised

That no one has mentioned primal/paleo yet. I guess its my turn:

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-book/the-primal-blueprint...

Wake up!

This wheat thing is just a distraction tactic to keep you from realizing that the reptoid jews who planned 911 are using chem trails addle your mind so that you won't resist when they harvest your spleen.

Seriously, though,

*even if you're right about all this*, it's destructive to mix other, unrelated messages with the liberty message. You can only alienate people. This doesn't make any more sense than frontpaging an article stating that god doesn't (or does) exist. That argument is *beside the point*. Start a seprate site for paranoid technophobia. Stay on target!

It's in the Health section.

It's in the Health section. There's nothing wrong with this thread. And some of us can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Also, if we are not healthy, how can we accomplish anything? Being in control of our own health has everything to do with liberty.

Lastly, this is factual health information, not a distraction or paranoid technophobia. Grow up.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

For the sake of argument, we'll say it's factual.

I don't care which secton it originated in, it's appearing on the front page of a site that purports to represent the liberty movement now. People come here and see stuff like this, and they think it's the kind of thing "Ron Paul people" believe in. For some percentage, that will be an immediate turn-off. Once again, I submit to you that it's like having a front page article about the existance or nonexistance of god: no matter how important and uncontroversial it may seem to you, it's not appropriate to conflate it with the liberty movement.

Even if the above article contains nothing but perfectly true and immensly valuable information, it does not belong on the front page. We need to present a message of liberty, not miscellany.

I'm sorry if I take it a little personally, but I had to stop wearing my Ron Paul t-shirt because I kept getting asked if I was "one of those zeitgeist people". You can have whatever supestitions you like. Hell, that's part of libertarian philosophy right there: I don't presume to tell you what to think. Just please, *please* try to keep things in perspective and realize how crazy you sound to most people, and keep your causes seperate.

Ron Paul people DO believe in this

because we are our own doctors and take contol of our own health.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Why you are wrong

First of all, it appears that you didn't read the article at all, so making comments on it without having read it displays a certain level of ignorance and closed-mindedness.

You display a breathtaking contradiction here:

Even if the above article contains nothing but perfectly true and immensly valuable information, it does not belong on the front page. We need to present a message of liberty, not miscellany.

In fact it does contain immensely valuable information, which is precisely the reason it is on the front page. So that people can learn of this information and make use of it. Liberty does not exist in a vacuum, in case you havent noticed. We live in a world of miscellany. We are Amusing Ourselves to Death. How can you explain Liberty in the absence of anything that has anything to do with people's lives?

Keep causes separate?

You demonstrate precisely why I was felt the need to remove the Ron Paul picture from every single page of this site. Precisely because of reactions like yours: "What does this have to do with Ron Paul? What does it have to do with liberty?"

I would ask you the opposite question: What does liberty have to do with the way we're living our lives? and I would ask you to likewise consider what you've asked of us:

Just please, *please* try to keep things in perspective and realize how crazy you sound to most people.

Hey Micheal I thought I might have seen you at the USF Paul rally by the front gate. Was that you?

Please put the pictures back!

No need to take it down to please whiners. Ron Paul- our inspiration, he belongs on every page of Daily Paul. That's what it's all about.

Thanks for the "Amusing" book link

Will check it out.

From one of the reviews:

"totalitarian societies need not arise through violent overthrow of the democracies using brutality, cruelty and violence, but can also occur whenever the citizenry is successfully deluded into apathy by petty diversions and entertainments, as well. Postman shows how the electronic media's presentation of facts and fcition in an entertaining fashion diverts us, channeling our attention, money, and energies in ways that make us much more susceptible to social, political and economic manipulation and eventual subjugation"

Lots of very good reviews. I

Lots of very good reviews. I think I'll have to buy that book...

Excellent book

Both of them - Wheat Belly and Amusing Ourselves to Death.

The latter is a mind blower. Written in the 80's I think - long before the internet, so its incredible that he saw what was coming. You'll enjoy it - I guarantee it.

Awesome

Yes, I'll pick up a few cents if you order through the Amazon link - every little bit helps. Thank you.

I'll check out the interview, but I'm pretty much sold on the the evils of wheat now. I can feel the difference in my body immediately when I eat it. If only it weren't so darn delicious!

And yes, the Red Ice site is awesome. Very mind expanding. You never know what will turn up there. I'm a big fan.

Threshing

The chaff is often the staff of life:

“Man does not live by bread alone. I have known millionaires starving for lack of the nutriment which alone can sustain all that is human in man, and I know workmen, and many so-called poor men, who revel in luxuries beyond the power of those millionaires to reach. It is the mind that makes the body rich. There is no class so pitiably wretched as that which possesses money and nothing else. Money can only be the useful drudge of things immeasurably higher than itself. Exalted beyond this, as it sometimes is, it remains Caliban still and still plays the beast. My aspirations take a higher flight. Mine be it to have contributed to the enlightenment and the joys of the mind, to the things of the spirit, to all that tends to bring into the lives of the toilers of Pittsburgh sweetness and light. I hold this the noblest possible use of wealth”

― Andrew Carnegie

Thank you, Michael, for being the 'useful drudge of things immeasurably higher'.

It is factual, not a belief

Oh please.

If I sound crazy to ignorant, crazy fools, then tough. And most of those crazy fools are probably suffering from "grain brain."

Just because you, or someone else doesn't know about something, that does not make it fiction, or a freaky conspiracy theory.

Look at many of the comments on most of these health threads and you have supporters of liberty offering thanks for the information. Many of these people, are going to doctor after doctor, spending tons of money and feeling worse and worse as it goes on. Then they find out something regarding gluten intolerance or some other health issue on this site or other sites and the information literally save their lives.

If you have a problem with liberty minded individuals helping others with their health and longevity, then you have a problem.

You might want to listen to these interviews.
