Jesse Benton Goes to Work for Mitch McConnell

Politico: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has hired a loyal aide to Rep. Ron Paul and fellow Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul to run his 2014 reelection bid -- the latest sign of how the wily leader is already preparing to head off any tea party insurgency and Democratic challenge.

McConnell announced Thursday that he's hired Jesse Benton, who led both Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign and Rand Paul's 2010 Senate campaign, to run his reelection bid for a sixth term.

"We're committed to running a presidential-level campaign in Kentucky and that starts with a presidential campaign manager," McConnell said. "Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements and I'm thrilled he's chosen to return to Kentucky to lead my campaign."

Since Rand Paul defeated McConnell's hand-picked Senate choice in the 2010 primary, the leader has worked to win over the younger Paul, giving him political advice in that campaign, allowing him to operate independently in the Senate and touring the state with him back home. Such moves — including the latest hire — have helped cool speculation that McConnell could be vulnerable to a tea party primary challenger in 2014.

Do we know who is running agains McConnell?

After just seeing Benton call Ron Paul supporters a "mess" I want to support the person running against McConnell.

Jesse Benton sabotaged so much hard work, I think he needs to hear from the Ron Paul rEVOLution!

It would be great if was never hired again to run any political campaign. Let him work at Walmart, no offense to Walmart.

Running against McConnel

If a better man than me doesn't run against him by the deadline to register, and I pray that happens, I may run against him. I am far from the best statesman in Ky, prolly not the best from Ky on this sight. But if someone don't step up to challenge this guy, I feel like I would have to. Just because someone has to. He needs gone! I challenge Mr Moffit, or any other afluant man of character and princeable in our state to fight this guy. I wouldn't have a snowball's chance in Florida of winning, but we can't do nothing. If we do nothing, you know what happens? Nothing.

Does this mean

that mcconnell is ready to retire and needs someone to bungle and sabotage his campaign at every turn?

They're talking about us on Reason.com

"For those who trust Benton's liberty bonafides, this is a great step in the spread of Paulism throughout the higher reaches of the GOP. The folks at the Daily Paul are reliably anti-Benton in their comment thread on the news, seeing his move as a sign that he was never fully dedicated to Paul's libertarian principles in the first place."

Why I joined Mitch McConnell’s team

Published: 11:43 AM 09/14/2012

By Jesse Benton

I discovered Mitch McConnell on May 22, 2010.

Of course, as a budding young politico, I had followed Sen. McConnell for more than a decade. I respected his achievements and understood his importance, but it was that day that I was first allowed an inside look at the man who led my party in the United States Senate.

May 22 was five days after Rand Paul’s primary victory and any celebration we enjoyed had been short-lived. The liberal media was circling, the national Democratic machine was cranking up its attacks and Kentucky Republicans were deeply divided after a contentious spring campaign. The tea party won the primary, but the tea party alone would not be enough to win a general election in a state where Democrats held a 2-to-1 registration advantage.

"Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it's realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy." - Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul

Whatever Jesse Benton is,

he was not the magic of the Ron Paul campaign. RP is his own magic. If McConnell thinks JB is the magic wand and creator of stardust, he is in for a big disappointment.

McConnell does not want to audit Fed

McConnell has not co-sponsored Rand Paul's S202 to audit the Federal Reserve.

I will never donate any money to anything that has Benton's involvement.

This was probably

This was probably foreshadowed by McConnell being in the RNC video of Dr. Paul, along with the slogan of the Tampa rally for Dr. Paul being Ron Paul: RepubliCAN.

As for Jesse, I'm not sure why we all get worked up by him? Learn and move on. He is someone who floats in the breeze and doesn't have real conviction, thus he is no loss to our movement and who really gives a damn if he goes to the Neo-Con side.

I agree. I was wondering why

I agree. I was wondering why McConnell of all people was in the Ron Paul tribute video. On one hand it proves how much of a threat we are to the establishment, but on the other hand, it just shows how easily some people will sell out for a seat at the table.

At least most of us can agree on a goal for 2014

Get rid of Mitch McConnel.

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

100% guarantee Benton ran

100% guarantee Benton ran this by RP before he accepted the job. People here need to get a clue. WAKE UP. Stop thinking you're going to make any real change in your 5% bubble. The world doesn't see things like we see them - sad but true - GET OVER IT. Wake UP! Instead of bitching, go run for Senate, be a campaign manager and then see how hard it is to create any REAL change. Get realistic. Take over the GOP, push for fair voting laws and do away with the secrecy, stop fucking bitching about nonsense.

Yah

And people like you need to realize that just because Benton runs something by Ron doesn't mean Ron's going to do something about it.

Do you really think that if his great son-in-law got a promising new job Dr. Paul would say, "NO! Absolutely not Jesse! I own you, you have to do what I say!"?

I think it's time YOU wake up!

LOL. OK so why don't you

LOL. OK so why don't you direct me to the plot of land we can sail across the atlantic to and steal from Indians in the name of "freedom"? This country has to change from the INSIDE. So go ahead an lead your 2% minority party to victory against the Republicrats! LOL. Get a CLUE buddy. People like YOU are HOLDING UP OUR PROGRESS. These people are ACTUALLY CREATING CHANGE NOW in CONGRESS .. IN THE SENATE. And you are simply BITCHING ON AN INTERNET SITE.

You're Pathetic

Why don't YOU stop trolling and find something more productive to do.

Me casting rightful blaim

does not stop me progressing the message of freedom nor does it dampen my spirits.

You, however, seem like a hypocrite who's b*tching about b*tching.

So what they're saying is

So what they're saying is that the grassroots movement for Ron Paul "is the best."

On that point they are correct.

What they fail to realize, though, is that this grassroots movement was not "built" by Benton. This grassroots movement / support was EARNED and we all know who earned it!

...

Either Mitch McConnell is

Either Mitch McConnell is delusional or Benton is even more of a traitor than we thought!

I vote

that both are true. McConnell is delusional *and* Benton is more of a traitor than we even suspected.

This deal was made way before the convention.

Thetis

Yet another reason I suspect

Rand Paul is being groomed for the Republican senate leadership.

"Jesse is the best in the business at building grassroots"

Lmfao - Jesse didn't "build" us. We appeared due to Ron Paul's philosophy...we woke up. "Most" RP supporters jumped on board with Rand (not including myself) and that's where he gained his grassroots. Rand doesn't have a grassroots...they are Ron Paul supporters who helped another politician out...many of us have absolutely no allegiance to him.

I'll be happily un-surprised when Jesse doesn't pick up even 10% of the Paul supporters to support McConnell.

Jesse likely signed on to the job knowing that he wouldn't have much, if little, of the support he previously had, but it's also likely that Mitch had no clue.

Good luck neocons! You're not getting my support!

Yes!

Let's beat McConnell this election and show Benton what happens to traitors!

So who do we have to run

So who do we have to run against McConnell?? Let's get the ball rolling NOW and show the neocons we mean business!

I hope we dont forget about Lindsey Grahamnesty!

I am not a fan of McConnell; however, if we can not support two major senate campaigns, I would hope our energy is focused on Grahamesty instead of McConnell. I think Grahamnesty will be a much easier target to get a Ron Paul Republican in office.

I've got a buddy in KY

Who is working on that now. Stay tuned.

Thetis

work to beat McConnell

he can't win without Paul supporters ( Ron )

"Freedom is a right that can never be won in war, only by each individual "

Benton=

Loathsome, pathetic piece of shit.

Boooooooooooooooooo...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I remember

When I posted an article suggesting that we had been duped and that Benton was simply taking orders from the Rand, Romney and GOP camp this place let out a massive groan. Seems I was correct. Benton helped sell us out to ride the perpetual gravy train that is campaigns. The good Paul supporters of Kentucky need to start getting in contact with the Tea Party people, 912 people and other liberty minded grass roots and let them know that Benton is a traitor. He would and did sell his own wife's grandfather out for a paycheck. And that ANY campaign that has Benton involved, even if it's taking out the trash, will not get your support. If Benton is on the team, support the primary challengers. If team Benton wins anyway, make it clear you will vote Democrat. Make it clear in D.C. that among grass roots conservatives and libertarians, Benton is poison. Make it so he could not get a job as a campaign manager for the local sheriff.
