Jesse Benton Goes to Work for Mitch McConnell

Politico: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has hired a loyal aide to Rep. Ron Paul and fellow Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul to run his 2014 reelection bid -- the latest sign of how the wily leader is already preparing to head off any tea party insurgency and Democratic challenge.

McConnell announced Thursday that he's hired Jesse Benton, who led both Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign and Rand Paul's 2010 Senate campaign, to run his reelection bid for a sixth term.

"We're committed to running a presidential-level campaign in Kentucky and that starts with a presidential campaign manager," McConnell said. "Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements and I'm thrilled he's chosen to return to Kentucky to lead my campaign."

Since Rand Paul defeated McConnell's hand-picked Senate choice in the 2010 primary, the leader has worked to win over the younger Paul, giving him political advice in that campaign, allowing him to operate independently in the Senate and touring the state with him back home. Such moves — including the latest hire — have helped cool speculation that McConnell could be vulnerable to a tea party primary challenger in 2014.

McConnell will regret it

While Jesse may have done some good things for RP's campaign, he probably didn't do any better than anyone else's campaign chairman, and maybe worse. One thing is for sure, no RP supporter is going to support McConnell based on his neocon voting record, and many will avoid supporting him primarily because he's now associated with Jesse. I think Jesse's new "career" will be short-lived.

It's time to get another

It's time to get another neocon out of the Capitol, and Jesse's going to make it easy by running absolutely nothing on the air waves while he eats up the money

ha!

McConnell probably thinks that because Ron Paul had a lot of grassroots support, and that Benton ran the Campaign, the grassroots will run to him by default.

It was always the message that brought us together!

McConnell is going to get a nasty surprise

when he finds out the hard way that all of Ron Paul's support came from NOT Jesse Benton, but from ....Ron Paul's supporters.

Ann in Florida

Wrong.

The candidate builds the campaign by attracting support to his ideas. Jesse, you do NOT have permission to share my email and address.

Seems to me

to be a marriage made in heaven. So long Jesse. May the sweat of a thousand camels invade your armpits.

I love it! Benton can ruin

I love it! Benton can ruin his campaign too.

Next, there needs to be a purge at the C4L!

Anybody who was friends with Benedict Benton or who was his comrade in arms, needs to be fired, including any and all volunteers.

This is serious business. Somebody needs to lead.

So who is lined up to dump this incumbent?

Maybe a liberty minded Democrat?

Versus a liberty minded Republican.

Would be nice to vote for the greater of goods!

Free includes debt-free!

I don't care if it is a Nancy

I don't care if it is a Nancy Pelosi clone. If he or she can dump McConnell (and thus Jesse), I'll be happy.

kneeocon deep in bullsh--

“This was a brilliant hire by Sen. McConnell,” said Mike Duncan, a Kentucky banker and former chairman of the Republican National Committee. “Jesse Benton is a guy who unifies conservatives across the political spectrum to fight for common goals, which is precisely what Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul have been working together to do.”

Well, That Pretty Well

Settles that doesn't it. If people still wondered where Benton's loyalties lay this whole time then here is your answer.

It was never a secret Benton was not out to win, that was obvious when we started building steam and he pulled the campaign, but now I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the 2012 campaign was never about winning and all about money.

Mr Benton don't bother sending me spam mail or email to get me to donate, McConnell will never get a penny from me, in fact I'll send money to a democrat before I send money to McConnell.

The fox in the hen-house

just made off with the eggs and is sharing them with his pack. Nice.

Please turn to the chapter

Please turn to the chapter entitled "Why the Worst Get on Top" from your copy of Hayek's "Road to Serfdom" ...rinse, repeat:)

we gotta overthrow MConnell!

that would be so sweet to kick his but in the primary with a liberty candidate!!!!

Jesse, good riddance! and thanks for getting the hell out of campaign for liberty

liberty candidate needed

... to defeat McConnell. The right independent ( no D or R's will ever have my support again ) candidate could see tremendous support from the rloveution. The "defeat Benton candidates" moneybomb could provide a boost...

has anyone

ever stopped to think that the followers of rp insisting on knowing what the campaign's plans were that we lost the chance to do the delegate sweep? if the campaign had been able to complete this plan, rp could possibly have been the next president of the u.s.? so go ahead and keep blaming everyone else for this failure or learn from mistakes and take over the gop

ducky

I understand what your saying.

I don't believe we would have went much further than we did. Certain states were targeted, there was success at many, the gop cheated out some others. That strategy was a success.

What we do not know is, the behavioral strategy of the campaign. Grassroots was puzzled at times. This snowballed due to the style of communication/non-communication/mixed signals from the campaign. Fragmentation then began.

The campaign did its strategy. The grassroots basically disintegrated along the way. What was left was just the states where the delegate strategy worked.

Currently, its a mess.

Is Dr. Paul going to personally revive the C4L after the election. Hopefully, because that is probably the only thing that is going to get people to respond to it at a decent level.

Probably way more than half of Ron Paul supporters want nothing to do with the GOP. They don't want to get involved. I don't have an answer here. But if Rand and Benton are strategic maneuvers, those that know about it or believe it, will be a small minority.

This announcement today is another hit. It is an integrity hit for those that have difficulty with believing that this is Ron Paul strategy.

I believe things are going to get worse over the next year. How far can the fragmentation go?

Thanks for posting this.

you should have been tuned in to ADAM VS THE MAN a few months ago. ;)

I guess all the RP donors will start getting McConnell spam

I imagine that Benton's laptop has all of the RP donors' email addresses, home addresses, and some phone numbers on it.

Eric Dondero - The Sequel

I wondered before how Ron Paul could have ever had someone like Eric Dondero working for him. I would have hoped that he would have learned from that experience.

I despise Mitch M

about as much as Pelosi. I hope Jesse Benton drives off a f'ing cliff and dies slowly from internal organ failure.

Mitch is in for a rude

Mitch is in for a rude awakening.

Any success with Ron/Rand campaigns came not because of Benton, but in spite of him. Benton won't be bringing any RP supporters with him, that I'm certain of. His only skill, shady back room shenanigans, the McConnel campaign is likely already fully stocked.

Par for the course

it's been obvious for a while that Benton was never about the cause of liberty, but rather all about making money. Oh well, it's pretty normal for a young guy like Jesse to be focused on his personal financial future above all else. He used his former position with his father in law as a springboard to advance his carreer. Nothing shocking in that. It's a shame we didn't have a more idealistic and dedicated person in his former position, but whats done is done.

Huh????

"Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements" ......LMAO Not only did he have nothing to do with starting it, once it was started you couldn't even get a return phone call. When you did it was one of his hand picked knuckleheads who we ended up avoiding because they would undermine anything good we had going. At first we just thought they were stupid, but eventually one had to realize that nobody is that dumb. It literally got so bad in our state that we finally specifically asked main campaign not to 'help' us anymore.

According to Hawaii grassroots, who won the Big Island

they did so,because they blocked the campaign from any acvities there. In contrast, when the campaign hacks descended on Maui they corrupted it so much that they interfered with the counting of the provisional ballots, causing the official win on Maui to appear as a loss.

The campaign individual actually "failed" to show up, when the provisionals were to be counted (80 of them) and thus they were counted in secret.

Benton was a momentum killer and more. Kesari is a GOP mole. It was infiltrated from the beginning.

Yes, it's a sick feeling, considering all the money all of us gave. All we can say is it is incredible how well we did despite this incredible challenge. The sick part is that people enriched themselves on our sincere efforts and worked against us or at least interfered with our efforts. That can't be by accident.

Well, at least one thing's certain: McCONN won' be reelected!

LOLOL

If there's one constant about the fate of any campaign that hires Benton? They lose.

Rand won Senate election IN SPITE of Benton: brave KY R3VOL and well-meaning astroturfed AND genuine O.G. TeaPartiers voted him in. The momentum was well on our side.

Now my dearest R3VOL Kentuckyians, you now have ONE goal: boot that POS neoCon out of office.

Let McConnell know just what happens to a campaign when you hire Jesse Benton: he manipulates accounting, pays himself a lofty bloated undeserving salary, and most importantly, LOSE your campaign, ON PURPOSE!

Does anyone NOT think Valori should divorce this POS and get half, and at least recoup SOME of OUR money that we donated??

lol.

Poor Dr. Paul.

It's beyond clear now: we REALLY had and perhaps still have infiltrators and saboteurs within the campaign.

Best to let Benton become the political Kryptonite that he is.

the only apt karma would be if he were to decide to commit seppuku, all by himself.

Predictions in due Time...
