Jesse Benton Goes to Work for Mitch McConnell

Politico: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has hired a loyal aide to Rep. Ron Paul and fellow Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul to run his 2014 reelection bid -- the latest sign of how the wily leader is already preparing to head off any tea party insurgency and Democratic challenge.

McConnell announced Thursday that he's hired Jesse Benton, who led both Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign and Rand Paul's 2010 Senate campaign, to run his reelection bid for a sixth term.

"We're committed to running a presidential-level campaign in Kentucky and that starts with a presidential campaign manager," McConnell said. "Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements and I'm thrilled he's chosen to return to Kentucky to lead my campaign."

Since Rand Paul defeated McConnell's hand-picked Senate choice in the 2010 primary, the leader has worked to win over the younger Paul, giving him political advice in that campaign, allowing him to operate independently in the Senate and touring the state with him back home. Such moves — including the latest hire — have helped cool speculation that McConnell could be vulnerable to a tea party primary challenger in 2014.

You MIGHT be the only one.

McConnell thinks that Ron Paul is a created phenomenon. Specifically created by Jesse Benton.

I want to see him proved wrong.

LOL, yeah, it was totally

LOL, yeah, it was totally Jesse Benton who got thousands of people to show up for Dr. Paul. What a joke.

I just don't see how

destroying friends of Ron Paul's friends helps anything.

I guess maybe I have too much faith in humanity. Ironically it was Ron Paul who restored it.

Perhaps Ron Paul

might now have a chance. He seems to be appearing more in the news lately.

The fiasco around Rand Paul and Benton seemed to coincide with Ron Paul disappearing from public view. It was at the worst possible time when the momentum was so high. The events could not have conspired better or been planned better for defeat.

We all felt it like a kick in the face. It may not matter now, but I too am left wandering I much Benton had to do with it by way of incompetence or deceit.

Not likely Benton will win the grassroots vote for his new employer.

I said since the beginning

I said since the beginning that Benton was no good. This just confirms my early skepticism. Now that the campaign is over, I do not have to eat any crow, because I was right. I understand Benton is married to one of Paul's family members, but he still should have picked someone else to run his campaign.

Too funny!

McConnell thinks that the spontaneous popularilty of Ron Paul was CREATED by Jesse Benton?

He thinks Jesse Benton made Ron Paul a rock star and now he wants to be a rock star too?

If anything Jesse Benton KILLED it.

I want McConnell and Benton to fall flat on their faces.

"Jesse is literally the best

"Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements ..."

Yeah, on reading that line I had to LOL

I was a prophet!

Just a couple days on this thread, I posted the following:

"SUBJECT: If you want to camp-pain again...

"...please go work for the Establishmemt. You'll make a lot more money and get set up for some cushy jobs in the future.

"I hope Rand has the sense, in hindsight, to stay the hell away from Benedict Benton. Rand should never have let David Adams leave his campaign in Kentucky. David would have made a much better manager than Benedict for the national RP campaign."

And low and behold, Jesse goes and does it! It would make me physically sick to work for such an enemy to Liberty, such as McConnell, or a McCain, or a Bush.

This career move does absolutely prove what many of us believed to be true of Benedict Benton: He was a New World Order planted in the Paul campaign to neuter the campaign and lead it astray, to lead it to defeat.

I'm sorry, but shame on Ron Paul (my hero), for not having the balls to fire this traitor despite him being a son-in-law. The termination could have been with taste, but Ron couldn't bring himself to do it. I hate the Globalists, I know Ron does too, I just wish he wasn't "too" nice. Ron Paul still is one of my heroes. He's not perfect, but I still love and revere him for the great work he did. And maybe he'll run again in 3 years!

Remember this video of Benton?

Benton caught on video coming downstairs from Gingrich team location in NH (at 1:30): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDJOWMfWUYs

Good question, Lao Tzua. Why was Benton there?

Now we know. Benton was a traitor from the very beginning.

It's possible Jesse Benton isn't even his real name

If he's working for someone or something.

I watched this. So what?

Maybe he was on some errand for Ron Paul.

This doesn't mean anything. And I distrust Benedict Benton as much as anybody.

Would seeing a bunch of people with Ron Paul signs...

get you excited or would you just walk on past as if they didn't exist? Benton walked right on past. What does that tell you?

Tea Party de-fanged

I don't think that McConnell has to worry about a Tea Party challenge in the next election. The Tea Party members of the House of Representatives have had ZERO effect on the votes. They couldn't stop the debt ceiling increases and even had defectors who voted for raising the debt ceiling. Was Benton hired for his campaign skills or as a reward by the Establishment for not exercising them in the last one?

So when will Borat interview

So when will Borat interview Mitch?

Told ya so...

Anybody wanna believe me about Jesse playing for the other team now?....

hahaha... this is who he stands with now?... hahaha

And let's get one thing straight, Ron Paul's grassroots movement organized itself... Jesse Benton had pretty much nothin' to do with it... and honestly, neither did Ron Paul.... it was the message of liberty that built that movement.

"sometimes I hug the coffee table when no one is looking."

Wow

Now we know what his payment was! 30 peices of silver!

McConnell wants the Paul

McConnell wants the Paul mailing list so he can be prepared to trash Thomas Massie if Massie primaries him.

Jesse shows his true colors of an opportunist neocon.

This is for you Jesse 'True colors' Benton:

So, Jesse Benton gets his reward for undermining the Ron Paul Campaign. How nice for Jesse. Who were the people saying this? Where are they now?:
"How dare we attack/criticize Jesse Benton!"

Unfortunately, four years of work by many people CAN be destroyed by just a few people. Where is Jack Hunter headed? He will get the next in line opportunist neocon job.

It will be interesting to see where Jack Hunter lands

Since he was so adamantly defending Rand's endorsement of Romney

[Even now, every time that endorsement comes up in discussion I still find myself pausing in disbelief. Mitt Romney??!!]

Does this mean

McConnell's going to expect Jesse to help him go after Rand in 2016?

Doug Wead said Romney promised to destroy Ron Paul's reputation. I couldn't see how Romney could do that. But now, with Jesse feeding him God only knows what info, it's probably possible.

I hope Rand's watching his back real close. He's probably the only one now who can make Jesse Pay by winning re-election. What a scourge this Benton is.

"If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before." Debra Medina

Rather shocking.

Rather shocking. If this gets him or Rand in the White House, then I'm fine with it. But I'd rather have two Rand Pauls in the Senate from Kentucky than Mitch McConnell. Which we could do. Mitch is horrible and the longest serving Senator in Kentucky history.

I hope he's not doing it for the money. I hope he's doing it for the long-term benefit of libertarianism. Imagine if a US Senator did what Rand could do 20 years ago. We could be everywhere.

All it takes is to change a mind and the more people we have in the Establishment the more chance we have to do that.

Post of the thread

intelligent

6th term???

Goodness gracious. We seriously need term limits. And now I see why Benton quit Campaign for Liberty.

.........................wtf

.........................wtf Jesse?

Mr. Benton goes to Washington.

What's wrong with this picture? I guess we are expected to congratulate him on his "new" job with a neoconservative Senate Minority leader?

Another Way to Look At It

Those who only want Ron Paul clones will never be satisfied with politics because there are not enough Ron Paul clones with the ability to successfully appeal to the voting majority. That is OK because no one knows what will work. Everyone should choose the method that they think will produce the best results. And we should support all well meaning liberty seekers.

But, for those who see politics as a viable method to save America, Benton helped Rand Paul get elected. Rand Paul has already said that he supports McConnell. Rand Paul is now the best Senator that we have and he is the highest elected official with liberty ideas. One example, the Fed Bill has a slim chance to pass the Senate with Rand but would not have had a chance without Rand.

I can see the McConnell connection to Kentucky, Rand, and Jesse as getting us more sympathy for liberty ideas in the Senate and in the Republican Party - sympathy that would not be there without this connection to Ron Paul. And that puts the liberty guys into kingmaker positions.

This Benton move proves that we are becoming the establishment.

You sure got that last line right

For, if we become the establishment by promoting the establishment then we have lost everything.

The Glass Can Also Be Half Full

For, if they build the establishment with our liberty ideas, then we have gained everything.

Will proven criminals like Mitch really defend liberty?

Or is he just using 'liberty' to get elected; saying anything he thinks people want to hear, as politicians do every election?

The problem with your analogy is this glass not half full, it's completely empty. Not only do we help a proven criminal get elected, but the liberty movement loses credibility.
