Some presidential electors defecting to RP

Now, this could be a major turn of events if more electors would choose not to nominate Romney.

At least three Republican electors say they may not support their party's presidential ticket when the Electoral College meets in December to formally elect the new president, escalating tensions within the GOP and adding a fresh layer of intrigue to the final weeks of the White House race.

The electors – all are supporters of former GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul – told The Associated Press they are exploring options should Mitt Romney win their states. They expressed frustration at how Republican leaders have worked to suppress Paul's conservative movement and his legion of loyal supporters.

"They've never given Ron Paul a fair shot, and I'm disgusted with that. I'd like to show them how disgusted I am," said Melinda Wadsley, an Iowa mother of three who was selected a Republican elector earlier this year. She said she believes Paul is the better choice and noted that the Electoral College was founded with the idea that electors wouldn't just mimic the popular vote.

I would take a fine any day to get our country back!

Once the The National Popular

Once the The National Popular Vote bill is passed, there will be no more check and balances in our elections.

What happened at the RNC this year with their rule changes and The National Popular Vote bill there will be no more chances to get someone like Ron Paul into office. All elections will be mob rule.

That is why any chance we have to change things is now in 2012. 2016 will be too late.

This election is about saving our country.

Dumb

Sorry, but it's dumb, dumb, dumb to announce you're even thinking about doing this. The establishment won't let it happen. They'll find some way to replace you as an elector. They'll make you sign a pledge, with huge fines and even jail time threatened if you break it. If all else fails, your car will have an "accident" or the roads will be blocked when you try to get to your state capital to cast your vote, and a substitute will vote in your place. Libertarians talk too much! :-)

1972 Electoral vote for Libertarian candidate

In 1972, Roger MacBride of Virginia voted his conscience and cast his electoral vote for Libertarian candidate John Hospers. In so doing, he also voted for the LP's VP candidate, Tonie Nathan, making this the first electoral vote ever cast for a female VP candidate. This was 12 years before Geraldine Ferraro though the press generally ignored that fact when Ferraro was the VP candidate.

MacBride went on to be the 1976 LP presidential candidate.

I was out running errands yesterday,

I live in the Upstate of South Carolina, and there are campaign signs around for SC House District elections. There is a woman named Gaye Holt who has some large signs posted around town and I noticed that on the top of her signs she has the words: Conservative Republican with the word Republican crossed off.

Conservative Republican

My suspician is she did that after the RNC but I don't know for sure. Here is her facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gaye-Holt-For-SC-House-Distric...

Anybody know anything about the sign change? I think it's wonderful.

Take Our Country Back 2012

In light of recent Supreme Court rulings and the trampling of our freedoms by Obama and his administration, conservative Upstate groups have come together to host a rally to tell both Columbia, SC and Washington D.C. that we're not going to take it anymore.

The GOP brownshirts likely got to her. When you do something like this, you probably get harassed and even threatened. I haven't talked to her since this happened and am just finding out about it now. I don't understand why she would have let the AP use her name, because I could see this happening as a result.

Don't be too hard on her. She made a mistake. Melinda did a LOT for the cause in the last year.

Very bad news, indeed.

This is why we fail. Quitters quit before the finish line.

Major Impact

I think they could make a bigger statement if they actually cast their votes for an entirely ficticious entity. Can you imagine if the three electors cast their vote for Mickey Mouse? That would be even more of a protest than if they cast for Ron Paul.

The electoral college has

The electoral college has voting their conscience the whole time. Biggest examples are 1832, 1836 and 1872. It's part of our checks and balances. To the NWO's desire for power, it's another useless passage from the Constitution that interferes with their control.

Things like neither candidate being eligible to be candidate or State law, which both candidates have problems worth noting, are reasons the electoral college exists. It acts as a balance against corruption, and ultimately would put a stop to political parties if used correctly.

Only 17 Faithless Electors since 1796

There have been 22,453 electoral votes cast since presidential elections became competitive (in 1796), and only 17 have been cast for someone other than the candidate nominated by the elector's own political party. 1796 remains the only instance when the elector might have thought, at the time he voted, that his vote might affect the national outcome. Since 1796, the Electoral College has had the form, but not the substance, of the deliberative body envisioned by the Founders. The electors now are dedicated party activists of the winning party who meet briefly in mid-December to cast their totally predictable rubberstamped votes in accordance with their pre-announced pledges.

If a Democratic presidential candidate receives the most votes, the state's dedicated Democratic party activists who have been chosen as its slate of electors become the Electoral College voting bloc. If a Republican presidential candidate receives the most votes, the state's dedicated Republican party activists who have been chosen as its slate of electors become the Electoral College voting bloc. The winner of the presidential election is the candidate who collects 270 votes from Electoral College voters from among the winning party's dedicated activists.

The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld state laws guaranteeing faithful voting by presidential electors (because the states have plenary power over presidential electors).

Do you believe in Blowback NOW?

What a dumb dumb move

Nothing will kill RP's ideas more than blatantly disenfranchising a whole state. It will give the Dem and neocon zombies more reasons to want direct democracy (mob rule). It is BS tantrums like this that is stopping us from truly becoming a force in the political AND ideological arenas... It's like those 3 morons can't see beyond their nose and never heard of BLOWBACK!

WTF are they thinking? I can't believe people are supporting this shit!

Why? Disenfranchising Maine didn't kill Willard's ideas.... although, he never had any to begin with.

I don't play, I commission the league.

They wouldn't be the first

They wouldn't be the first electors to deflect. It's not that big a deal. Most won't even blink an eye over it. However, it does tell the GOP that the liberty movement is here and we are not going anywhere.

Too late. The elector resigned.

That was a huge mistake on her part. An article stated that the IOWA GOP "had words with her", then she resigned. Can't wait to hear that interview.

"yes, I know it is unlawful to not vote for the selected candidate. How much is my bail?"

Ron Paul!!!

Bump!!!

Does Romney have much of a chance anyway?

We're looking at another round of Obama. Romney can't get elected anyway without Ron Paul supporters, many of whom are Republicans. By default, Gary Johnson's gonna split the Romney vote and pretty much guarantee another Obama term, right? But if Romney did somehow get elected, by all means, do this!

"The world has never known more oppressive governments or bigger governments than those which profess the cult of liberty." - Donald Sanborn

Most of Ron's supporters are NOT GOP.

They were apolitical before he showed up.

It is a MYTH that Ron took votes from Romney or that Johnson will.

Johnson sees support from both parties equally.

Besides, the concept even that this or that candidate "owns" votes before the election is just asinine.

It's as dumb and dumb can get.

No one knows who is going to win until the votes are cast and counted.

Until they are cast, they "belong" to NO ONE - BECAUSE THEY DO NOT YET EXIST.

Your armchair analysis has no supporting facts whatsoever.

It is pure media fed MYTH.

Try turning off your TV and waking up instead of continuing to baa like a sheep.

with the list of links to elector names. The info can be found by googling 2012 presidential electors.

Good!

Love this! Have all the electors been chosen in all 50 states already? I understand the delegates but not how the electors get chosen...
