Jim Rogers says we should all move to Asia.

The U.S. is toast. Will never get out of the huge debt hole. Do you agree with him?

Jeff Berwick says you should move to latin america

Both men have a point.

I moved to Asia about 3 years ago.

I like it.

All that crap about the US of A
being the land of the free
is nothing more than a lot of crap.

Where exactly?

Only one reason to live in US

The only reason I will go back is the gun laws. Its the only reason the US is still the freest country on earth, no other government shares power with its people like the US.

Move to where there are not going to be a lot of very hungry zombies.

Being a pepper in a high population area will only attract hungry zombies to your door.

You will possibly be invited to their bar-b-q.

But you may also end up serving as the smoked or boiled roast once the other vittles are gone.

He took his staff and beat the money-changers until they left the temple.

I wish we could do the same. : /

I think Jim is cool

He definitely knows where the markets will swing to. He knows where the heavy hitters are going to go.

Asia for all its ills has some bright spots. I agree he must live like a King and living over there will look nothing like it is here.

I still don't think outsiders will be well accepted and received unless they are loaded. I could be wrong but this is what I sense.

I am confused, Marc Faber says he owns a house in Thailand yet someone has posted that you cannot own land there?

You can own the building but not the land?

If Jim knows a company or outfit that he has confidence in that can help outsiders/foreigners settle I would like to hear it.

Several ways of owning

But in some owning must be replaced with "using".
If you invest enough money (about 1 million dollars) you have the right to own 1600m2 (called a Rai) freehold.
Buildings can be owned by foreigners so no problem there.
For the other 99% who have less to spend are two possibilities.
Rent land for 30 years, or a usufruct that can be for 30 years or for the length of your live. You can then build a house on that.
This is in practice not freehold because selling a house with a seperate deprecating lease on land and it will not be easy to sell.
Another way, need more money again, is to fidn some Thai partners, start a company, hire some employees and make money. Then the company can own the land.
Catch is that you can only have maximum 49% of the shares of the company and need Thai partners that also invest provable money in that company. You can have preferred share to have majority control.
All in all pretty good rules for Thai people, and it should because it is their country. Still offers plenty of possibilities.
Another very simple one is renting. Keeps you from shooting roots which is good for the first years.
That is it in short, if anyone is thinking about moving to Thailand you can always PM me for some more detail. I am not a lawyer or agent just sharing info from personal experience.

dont know thailand but

In Indonesia foreigners cant own, but businesses can. Singapore foreigners can own housing on 'private market' but min price for a private residential unit (one bdrm condo) is $400K.

Thailand is ok.

But as in many asian countries you are not allowed to own land.
You can rent it tough, so in practicallity not really a problem.
It has lots of food, more than can be exported and consumed actually causing cheap prices for stock food.
Fruit in abundance.
Taxes low, climate is ok.
Corruption is there but on a mickey mouse scale compared to the west.
Gold IS money here. Sure they use there own pieces of paper but selling buying an ounce of gold has a very low spread of about 7US$.
Unfortunately they are following the west and just got a loan from the IMF, while previously they had surplusses for many years.
However it will take several decades to get into debt like the western countries did, by then time to move. :)
I found out that riding a wave is better then getting the wave over you again and again. Serves no purpose but making you slowly obedient and suppressed. The freedom to travel is your best 'right'.
I am from Europe, system is the same as now in the US. The US does not really have states anymore so that you could choose which one was best for you. The European system gave us rights (Work and live anywhere in Europe) but then took many away by introducing many laws and taxes. Moving within the Fedral system has no use anymore. If you want the same options you need to investigate other countries out of the system you are in.
My kids are young, and i don't want them to be in a collapsing western country. Fighting for your country can be done on many levels. Starving it from your money is one way, that is the one i choose. At the same time you strengthen your family and be much more resilient to the changes that are coming.

word is that vietnam

is the new thailand. dividing your time might be the way to go, the way people do with mexico, but crossing the border is getting tricker and tricker and as ron paul pointed out, one day they may not allow you to leave. the new passport requirements are a cross between orwell and lewis carroll.

no thanks

ill stay here and fight for liberty and non aggression principle. its a worthwhile effort even if it seems hard and tiring at times.

I have lived in Asia. It is a nice place to visit...

But really, I wouldn't want to live there.

Singapore? It is a quasi police state. Not to mention hot, muggy, and zero green space. As long as you don't "do anything wrong," Singapore is fine.

Taiwan, at least Taipei, is also hot, crowded and extremely dense.

Tokyo? The same. Though it does snow on occasion in the winter.

If you're a foreigner, with a skill, you'll have a better standard of living than the locals, but I don't think that is saying too much. Jim probably lives like a king. But I doubt he has a garden. And I doubt he has fresh air.

Money isn't everything. And with the internet, you can invest in Asia just as easily from the United States of America.

Switzerland and New Zealand

Switzerland and New Zealand is free, Iceland is too I hear. South Korea is nice I hear too.

F Him

This is my country, founded on principles that I intend to see re-instituted, settled by my ancestors. I 'arguably' own several pieces of property, some of which is generational. I fully intend to pass it on to my son someday.

My state, my nation, my traditions, my Constitution, my individualism, my principles.

The debt run up by government is not mine.

They are going to ensure the re-institution of the republic, via their own stupid, globalist-collectivist actions, because at some point there will be a collapse and the result will eventually be them being assed-out.

No Asian nation has any traditions of individualism akin to how I choose to live, nor do I have any interest in trying to institute such there.

I guess that i'll just stay here and continue to fight on for the restoration of my Republic.

Check out Seasteads

They're support is growing and when they reach a certain level (I'm not sure on their exact progress) they'll be building floating countries on the ocean. You want in after the initial build, you get the 'hookup specs' and tie your couple floating acres to them to grow the country. Their proposal is to have competing government styles to see which one is the most prosperous. For $50k, I really want in early on.

I disagree. I don't think the

I disagree. I don't think the U.S. is the center of the universe.

Granted, the U.S. aren't the center of the universe.

Granted, the U.S. aren't the center of the universe.

However, I'm still waiting to see another country which was founded on a text as simple and powerful as its Constitution and Bill of Rights.

True GEMS for peace and prosperity. Results of centuries of wisdom in the making - after so many common forms of tyranny - the general rule PRIOR to that.

It is up only to the people to decide for themselves if they want to protect what so many of immigrants found appealing for their own lives and future.

I just believe that this is not because TPTB seem to be winning the game for now that we can excuse ourselves to surrender on defending what was so truly genuine and positive that THEY, PTB, HAD TO attack it, precisely, eventually - because of their EVER LASTING envy for power, and contempt for ANY PEOPLE, including theirs.

Switzerland and New Zealand

Switzerland and New Zealand is free, Iceland is too I hear. South Korea is nice I hear too.

Switzerland requires $1

Switzerland requires $1 million entry fee (for citizenship)
New Zealand (& Australia) WILL be soon occupied by China.
Iceland is unsustainable on its own. It requires outside resources.
S. Korea imports supplements made of aborted babies! Yum!

America is the last bastion of freedom. It's the easiest to win back. Very few places say it's your god given right to own a gun. We can't run. Stand your ground. Time to ante up!

Why not. Please understand I don't judge

Why not. Please understand I don't judge (and even less, blame) people who had enough here, and want to leave.

Who would I be to judge anyone on that, anyway ? After all, haven't I decided to leave my own country of origin for the U.S. - this one of its kind country that I considered a better place - read : with a better potential for the Liberty **I**, with my family need - better than anywhere else precisely THANKS TO the nature of its foundations ? It being under sustained DEMOLITION doesn't remove anything from its intrinsic civilization value, in my point of view.

So, I was just stating my opinion that when Mr. Rogers says "should", it is, IMO, too strong and I beg to propose the option to stay and stand fighting on, for what we still believe is UNIQUE and BELONGS to HERE and ought to be restored.

but all the wealth is moving

but all the wealth is moving out of the U.S. and into Asia. U.S. is going to be Third World soon.

No need to leave the U.S.We can win with a united effort.

We can make progress every single day if we focus on winning hearts and minds. Here is a suggestion on how to do it:We get one or two great short ads/videos that promote our shared values of truth, freedom, and peace.Maybe have a few quotes of Ron Paul in there.Just picture a short video explaining why we should bring our troops home, have sound money, cut taxes and spending, balance the budget, end the drug war and give power to the individual while promoting truth,freedom,peace,non-aggression and voluntary humanitarian help to our fellow man. Then we have a money bomb only to DIRECTLY purchase airtime for said ad/video.We vote with our dollars on which video is best. Then we have a "time bomb"(lol) where we all donate our time and focus our efforts spreading the video on facebook, twitter, youtube etc.Keeping it front page on the DP would surely help. Then we fine tune our efforts to make sure we are winning people over. And as long as we see it is working,we NEVER stop. With the "time bomb" method,we could make our message go viral on the internet, nationwide and worldwide, without asking people for money. With the right videos and a united effort by us,I am convinced this would work.In my opinion, this is how we win.Anyone got a better idea?I'm all ears.

Rogers is Soros' former partner. I do not trust him.

We should all leave, huh? White folks "discovered" America, ravaged the native population, raped the natural resources and allowed a completely evil government to take over the land. What next? CHINA, HERE WE COME!!!!

Rogers is a coward, he can stay in China. Those who give a damn about liberty and truth and justice, we will be better off without Soros or his buddies.

Ever notice how Jim supported Ron Paul? With a little wave of the hand - "but he will never be elected." Let me think, where have I heard that before....?

I cannot get his info from opensecrets, but here is an old thread where someone claims they can find out if Jim ever put any money where his mouth is. Please look at the reply to this thread regarding his 2 failed marriages - he won't give money to his WIVES.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.
