In Iowa, GOP elector who backed Ron Paul resigns after deciding she couldn’t vote for Romney

One of the Republican appointees to the Electoral College abruptly resigned from her post Thursday after publicly questioning whether she would support the party’s presidential ticket when casting official votes after the November election.

Melinda Wadsley of Ames, Iowa, told The Associated Press that she could not in good conscience vote for party nominee Mitt Romney. Wadsley was among three electors who had told the AP for a story published Thursday that they were exploring alternatives should Romney win their states.

“I have always been a straight ticket Republican, and for the first time in my life I am an undecided voter, therefore, I need to resign my position as a Republican presidential elector,” Wadsley said in an email exchange.

Iowa GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker said in a statement that the state party’s central committee would begin the process of selecting a replacement, essentially allowing the party to confirm a die-hard Romney supporter.

Wadsley and others had expressed frustration at how Republican leaders have worked to suppress Paul’s conservative movement and his legion of loyal supporters.

“They’ve never given Ron Paul a fair shot, and I’m disgusted with that. I’d like to show them how disgusted I am,” Wadsley had told the AP earlier, saying she was considering withholding her electoral vote from Romney. She is an Iowa mother of three who was selected as a Republican elector earlier this year and said Paul was the better choice.

I don't believe this story at

I don't believe this story at face value 1 single bit.

Building 7 collapsed due to fire & falling debris of neighboring towers.

Yeah right.

A valid elector just had a "Oh well, I just don't feel like following my conscience" moment & resigned. Just like that.

Yeah right.

Look at the source of information where this is being reported, folks. There are far more sinister forces at play, a den of vipers who aren't going to give in that easily.

Immoral funding of Military Industrial Complex by Federal Reserve and US taxation system must stop!!!! End illegal/unconstitutional wars! Preserve US currency!

Better chance at getting 'news' coverage this way?

Perhaps Melinda made this decision in hopes of achieving some semblance of 'news' coverage?

No matter, I applaud her efforts to stay true to her principles.

An elector voting for Ron Paul would have been much bigger news

In a few weeks she won't even be remembered by most, as she's replaced and forgotten.

She should have cast her vote for Ron Paul!

Resigning doesn't do any good.

“They’ve never given Ron Paul a fair shot, and I’m disgusted with that,” Wadsley told the AP for the story that preceded her resignation. “I’d like to show them how disgusted I am.”

Show them by giving them total control, nice move exlax.

Can you say caving under "life threats"?

Of course, with someone like Romney who would be willing to send poor people's sons and daughters to die in order to protect so called "democracy", yet would cheat duly elected delegates and flip votes to grab power he feels he is so entitled to have, why would he ever consider "tolerating" a threat like this? Its quite obvious, she was threatened to her wits end and resigned. She is a mother and house wife, so I could understand not wanting to have her life ruined for standing in the way of a wallstreet, Goldman Sachs funded power hungry bastard from having the ultimate power he feels he deserves by birth right after being born with his platinum plated spoon. This is a very sick man we are dealing with, why wouldnt he do what it takes to crush any threat like her?
