Jesse Benton Responds: Why I joined Mitch McConnell’s team

I know you're angry, but consider upvoting post, rather than downvoting it. Perhaps, others want to read it?

By Jesse Benton | Daily Caller

I discovered Mitch McConnell on May 22, 2010.

Of course, as a budding young politico, I had followed Sen. McConnell for more than a decade. I respected his achievements and understood his importance, but it was that day that I was first allowed an inside look at the man who led my party in the United States Senate.

May 22 was five days after Rand Paul’s primary victory and any celebration we enjoyed had been short-lived. The liberal media was circling, the national Democratic machine was cranking up its attacks and Kentucky Republicans were deeply divided after a contentious spring campaign. The tea party won the primary, but the tea party alone would not be enough to win a general election in a state where Democrats held a 2-to-1 registration advantage.

Rand and I rode to Frankfort that morning not knowing what to expect. What we experienced was a very real GOP Unity Rally that had been put together by the only man capable of doing so: Senator Mitch McConnell.

Find the most conservative solution?

The letter says he wants to "find the most conservative solution that can pass." Even if it is a socialist solution? What a load of crap.

It is all about winning for these people, even if it means we lose. I'm sick of this duplicitous political garbage.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

Well he's right about

McConnel working things out and getting Republican things passed, but it's the move away from the Liberty movement that is angering most.

SteveMT's picture

The Senate hasn't passed any type of a budget in 1,250 days.

Both parties take the blame for that, not just Reid and the majority party. McConnell is the minority leader, and he goes along with this inactivity by Reid.

So you blame Rand Paul

for not getting a vote on Foreign Aid?

You blame Rand Paul on not getting a vote on Audit the Fed in the Senate?

C'mon...Harry Reid controls what's allowed on the floor. and that is the DEMOCRAT controlled Senate.

the GOP has passed budgets, jobs bills, etc....Reid does nothing. the Democrats do nothing.

Nice try though.

SteveMT's picture

I was talking about Reid and McConnell. They are the leaders.

McConnell could be a lot more vocal with his disagreement with the way Reid has brought the business of the Senate to a standstill. That's all that I meant. I didn't say or imply anything about Rand here.

Wrong, Jesse...

Mitch McConnell voted for the 2008 bank bailout all the while holding Nancy Pelosi's hand. Keep telling yourself things like--"there is no question McConnell is the most conservative member of the Senate"--but the reality is Mitch McConnell is closer to Nancy Pelsoi than he is to Ron Paul. Lying to others is bad, but lying to oneself could be hazardous to one's health.

Check your premises.

Jesse, you went from working for the greatest statesman of all time to siding with just another NWO puppet. This is Devil-ution. How much did you sell out for?

How Jesse lost Texas

My beef with Jesse Benton. While I think the overall delegate strategy was great, Benton dropped the ball in Texas. In my opinion there was a deliberate plan to ignore the supporters from '08 ( I guess we are too fringe ). I was very active in '08 and wrote Jesse personally asking to be the County Coordinator in '12. NO RESPONSE.

When precinct conventions were announced my County was 1 of 2 that held theirs a week early. As far as I know the Campaign did nothing in the 2 Counties, which could have set the tone for the entire STATE. Then after the Conventions the Campaign decides they want to show up the local University.

Had Benton/Campaign done the University stop before the Convention, we would have been in a much stronger position. There was marginal participation from the students this year, way down from '08.

I hope he continues to drop the ball for Mitch.

The Delegate Strategy doesn't work

very well in Texas, it's not a caucus, delegates are appropriated by popular vote. This is not a hard concept to understand. They "ignored" texas like they "ignored" florida. It was a gonna go Romney big, the best hope was to become delegates and get unbinded. That worked in caucus states, not in a primary like Texas.

The delegate stratigy worked very well

Ron Paul Republicans are now part of the establishment, which gives the rEVOLution credibility.

What the RNC did to the Ron Paul delegates is having blowback within the GOP that is not happy with what they did to Ron Paul, so Ron Paul RepubliCANs are no longer alone, but now others in the GOP are looking at us saying, "WE SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND IT WAS WRONG AND WE NEED TO CORRECT THIS".

Meanwhile, we gained seats on central committees. This is HUGE in having power, and the GOP KNOWS those seats are ours.

What is unfortunate is too many here, will not claim the PRIZE but rather run into the abyss of oblivion thinking their consciousness will not decieve them. Like most folks, they don't have all the information, and apathy is setting in because they didn't get the slam dunk they were hoping for, not understanding many here were NEVER with them. Just because someone donated to a moneybomb, that is not enough to say they are with you, but just enough to make you think they are.

I have no doubt that your intentions are the same as most of ours. I must say that you have more patience and diplomacy than my temper seems to allow me in these situations. When I think about what was done to the delegates supporting Ron Paul, what we see simply is that political parties are and will continue to be controlled from the very top down. Not that it's not impossible to see why Ron Paul chose this path; it was his platform to spread the message. I just continue to wonder if it's possible for an outside guy to take over a mafia. Political parties act and behave like a mafia. I know that the libertarian party has been a mess over the years, but on principle I feel right at home with them. It seems to me that this election is simply over and it does not matter if we vote for Romney, Obama or Johnson. The only thing that gives me hope for the future is the Paul supporters who run as candidates for office. If enough of them can get into office at local levels and national levels, it will only be a matter of time until there is a paradigm shift in the public consciousness. It may just simply be too late to save this country from ultimate destruction of the currency and oppression by the government to deal with the breakdown of society. I think the reality is that we all have a lot of souls searching to do. I say we should have so many Paul type candidates that we simply run on both democrat, republican and libertarian tickets, so we always win 50% of the time. I would think Ron Paul would be proud of that paradigm shift. It's going to have to be about more action if anything is to change.

Peace be to all of you.

Peace, Freedom and Prosperity. Not War, Welfare and Bankruptcy.

The RNC made a big mistake

The GOP saw what the RNC did and they don't like it. So the RNC has a BIG problem right now. It's a trust issue. It's an anger issue.

The GOP has now embraced Ron Paul republicans because they don't like what they saw.. they are asking? "Why didn't you let Ron Paul speak? What are you hiding from us? Who empowered you to remove state delegates?

This is GOOD. This is VERY VERY GOOD. This is exactly what we want.

The GOP likes the energy we are bringing, and they like the idea of getting back to the constitution.. it makes many groups within the GOP feel like fighting for liberty WITH US, KNOWING it's the biggest difference we can make against the Democratic party.

Many now believe Romney was forced on us... Republicans are not kids,, many of the folks on committees have good jobs, have respect in the communities, and so this is personal. I think Ron Paul's phone is ringing off the hook from GOP waking up.

Look at that job Benton just got.. that's a huge victory for us.. THEY ARE BENDING, not us.

Many think there is no difference, and when Ron Paul stood on the congressional floor ALONE, that was true, but he is not alone.. now hundreds of us are in the GOP and we understand his message, and we are voting NO, and they don't want us to hold them to the constitutional oaths they took.. they KNOW they took those oaths, and they don't want us "busting" them.. So the GOP is going through massive changes.

The Neocons are not showing up, Palin's Earthquakers are taking OUR seats.. they are preparing for 2016.. and so are we.. I have scheduled to begin seminars on campaigning as I plan to going for a board of supervisor knowing the guy who was elected had no one run against him and under 5K votes as people don't like him.

It's a shame so many think of the GOP as what it was and not what is will be with us, but it is changing and I am very pleased. I'm happy to report that. And as a committee person, I believe transparency in government is important.. the public should know what is going on. I don't think the public has a right to know what a canmpaign is doing.. one should not have their game plan exposed for an opponate to take them down.. grassroots made the choice to be grassroots and not join Ron Paul in the GOP.. they can't have it both ways. You wither join the GOP and get with Ron paul's plan or do it your way.. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

There's no blowback in the

There's no blowback in the GOP, especially since your boy Jesse has dismissed us as a bunch of crazies.

And your experience is?

Your source?

what you're saying is different

becoming a delegate gives you status in the party of course, but it doesn't allow you to vote Ron Paul on the floor of the RNC National convention when those delegates were bound to Romney. You and I are talking about two different things.

Delegates represent the committees

That's why delegates have to go through all that loyalty oath stuff and be elected.. they have to go through the same stuff as a committee member, and why delegates should become committee members if there is an open seat.

Different states have different laws.. for example here in CA, the candidates select their own delegates.. Had Ron paul won CA, I would have been in Tampa for Ron Paul. Instead, the Romney delegates from my srea didn't even go to the RNC.

I am elected, but i would never sign something like that, which

is so facist. If you really wanted to do the liberty movement a service you would stand up and protest against such an oath. I know several who are on the central committee and would never consider this. They would not join the ranks of Obama and Biden in wanting the secret ballot to be out in such a way that someone can be bullied or intimidated.

My oath is to my creator who I have to answer to at the end of my life. with freedom comes responsibility, you forgot the responsiblity part to your creator, which takes care of man. Follow the golden rule granger and you will be fine, but remember while you go to Church to read in corinthians where the spirit judges all things.

SteveMT's picture

She would lose her seat if she raised to much of a fuss.

"The lady doth protest too much [NOT], methinks."

To become part of the insiders, Ron Paul supporters have to be good little republicans, towing the party, candidates, and mentality.

What is wrong with this picture? Why didn't Ron Paul do this? Why should we if he did not?

Granger is blowing smoke with

Granger is blowing smoke with this "oath" crap. Granger would vote Romney regardless of the oath because, as Granger put, a "vote for Johnson is a vote Obama."

Some people have said that we have operatives on the dailypaul that just want to stop all the good work we had. They are definetely ull of misinformation. You don't sit idle in your central comittee meetings and act passively, get involved means just that. To just vote with them and have coffee with them, but believe something entirely different is no better than agreeing with their bad behavior. It does not mean you come at them like a tornado, but gently talk to them about opposing ideas. Ron Paul does not want us to passively join the Republican party and vote with them on ridiculous plans. Granger is either highly misinformed, or an operative as others have stated. I am not sure which, but it is not helping our cause at all.

You sign things like that all the time

You signed something simular when you signed onto DP and agreed to follow the rules.

If you would support Romney

If you would support Romney regardless of committee status, e.g. "a vote for Johnson is vote for Obama," quit rationalizing it with this pledge crap.

At this point YES

Obama is the WORST president, and he does NOT deserve another four years, though I LOVE MY committee, after all, with froends like you, who needs Neocons? You do more FOR Neocons than against them.

So move out of their way, and let us who have more guts than you deal with them without your help. Afterall, GJ would appreciate iti

SteveMT's picture

You have been focused on the intangibiles.

The tangible reality is that the delegate strategy did not work as an overall strategy of our primary mission of getting Ron Paul the nomination or even getting him nominated. No thanks to the RNC. The RNC can remove any central committee member or delegate it chooses to, so don't get too ensconced in your present position. You could be gone in a flash. We didn't get a slam dunk, a dunk, or a basket. We in fact lost the game this time around from a republican-rigged game as well as RNC saboteurs on our team.

I don't agree

The stratigy was genius. What didn't work was the grassroots who refused to follow the stratigy instead invented their own BS like P.A.U.L. Fest., which Ron Paul prooved in his Rall for the Republic, he didn't need P.A.U.L. Fest as that is a distraction, and that seems what grassroots is best at.. distractions rather than getting the job done.

The GOP body is shocked and NOT happy by what the RNC did, so this is creating blowback in our favor. The GOP is LISTENING TO US.

Yesterday me and the other Ron Paul committee memebrs spent 4 hours taklking to our Chiar about it because he brought up how WRONG the RNC was.

Ron paul did not mislead us into the GOP, others have misled us away from the prize, and we will get it.. the future is ours. The GOP is changing because we are changing it.

If you're telling the truth,

If you're telling the truth, then why don't your GOP friends call a press conference to defend Ron? Perhaps they should cry on Benton's shoulder as he pats their backs reassuringly as he utters the following: "don't worry you treated those black-clothed anarchists fairly, and please contribute to McConnell's reelection."

Jeeez it's hard to believe,

Jeeez it's hard to believe, what a lowlife. Really what a scumbag. Between him and rand paul, the sleazy murderous gop, the corrupt press is it any surprise we are where we are now?

I think that TREASON can be argued here. For a lot of people.

Show me a video of anyone nailing either one of these assholes with a nice rotten egg in the head and I'll write you a check for $500.00 as my way of saying "atta boy! " or girl, or whatever.

Just go away

You ruined a perfectly good chance to save our free republic with your selfish self centered lust for power and fiat. You are exactly the type of establishment criminal element we have been up against all along. Take your toys and just go away Jesse. Far far away.
And don't let the gate hit you on the way out.
I have not trusted you ever since that stupid practical joke setup of Ron for that stupid movie scene. You should be embarrassed.
If I were Ron Paul, I would have never trusted you after that BS.

Benton set that up? With that

Benton set that up? With that %!*k "bruno"? For what purpose? How in any world could that have benefited anyone but bruno? Are you sure that it was benton that set that up? How much did the bruno or other team pay him to do that?

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good things is my religion. Thomas Paine, Godfather of the American Revolution

I still have a hard time

understanding why Ron Paul allowed that jerk to run the show in the first place. I can't believe Ron would be blind to what he was up to. I just don't get it. Why would Ron Paul work so hard campaigning and then sit back and let Benton ruin it?
