Analysis of the Current Factions on the Daily Paul

There are:

  • The No One But Paul! faction. Two subsets:
    • "Ron Paul can still actually win!"
    • "I can't bring myself to vote for anyone else"
  • The Vote Gary Johnson faction. Also two subsets:
    • GJ can actually win!
    • "Let's send a message to the GOP!"
  • The I'm not voting for nobody faction. "Voting is a scam, and I refuse to be anyone's monkey."
  • The Vote Romney faction. "Because Ron Paul told us to stay in the GOP."
  • The Vote Obama faction. "Let's really punish the GOP!"

Any others that I missed?

People say we need to "be united," but that is not true. We are all individuals and we need to follow our own paths. People say, "Ron Paul united us, so we should do what he says." But that is not true either. Ron Paul did not unite us, we all voluntarily chose to unite behind him. There is a big difference. And that difference means that there is no need to drop our individuality now. We are still all united in our love of liberty, regardless of how we choose to express it.

Whatever path you choose - and all pursuers of all are welcome here - what I ask is that you please don't attack one another. Furthermore, please don't preach about how your path is the one and only true and correct path. This is getting tiresome. Your path is the one true and correct one, for you, for now. Don't try to force others into it. Offer your observations and explain and share with us what you're doing and why, but don't expect people to follow you.

This is my observation on the first faction: No One But Paul - was a campaign slogan. It originated in the grassroots, but was coopted by the Campaign and used to great effect for a moneybomb that raised a lot of money. But clearly, from the campaign's leadership perspective, it was nothing more than a slogan.

No one but Paul... And Mitch McConnell?

Well said.

Mike Ny the freedom guy

You missed the faction who believes electoral victories will occur as a result of re-educating a entire population of Americans on what it means to be free in a free society - so they support with their time, energy, talents, and money, any number of various methods and efforts that have the potential to make people stop and wonder "hmmm maybe I am a libertarian?", in hopes they follow up on that curiosity and... well you know the rest. Isn't that kind of how it happened for each of us?

This faction supports libertarian; businesses, media, candidates, messengers, news and info outlets, writers, social networks, artists, activists, entertainers, radio, television, music, etc., and could give a rats ass about political party affiliations. This faction believes ideas change the world, so they seek opportunities to produce, promote, and market "peace" and "liberty" in the ears, and in eyes, and on the tongue of every human being on the planet by any and all means available. This faction aims to change the course of history.

I always leave you a little something when I comment on your posts.

RP Campaign sure united a lot of people!

This is only the second general election I will ever have voted in, so I'm not an established anything.

I supported Ron Paul 2012 but now feel more like an independent. I strongly support the Republican Party of Texas now, however, and would like to get involved with the GOP. I will vote for Romney this year.

Don't be haters. lol. I stand with Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Tom Davis, Steve Munisteri, and many other fine Republicans. The Republican Party is ours for the taking. Just look at the 2012 platform. I'm not going to jump ship now when it's most crucial to continue all this good work within a party that counts.

How does voting for Romney

How does voting for Romney help us take over the Republican Party? The only way that you take over the party is to show the party that they need us. And the only way that they will get that message is if Romney loses and we make the difference by voting for GJ or for RP (but please only in states where a write-in vote will be counted).

In short...

A Republican administration will get us closer to what I want than another Obama Democrat administration. We can deal with the Republicans. Just look at how they have compromised regarding the Fed. They still stand for limited government, free markets and the private sector. Let's hold them accountable to these founding principles, as we should.

The Obama Democrats have gone way, way overboard. Obama was raised by Marxists and radicals. He is no good for America.

Romney and Nixon - two

Romney and Nixon - two flip-flopping Keynesian moderates.

You're in Texas anyway, it's safe for Romney. Maybe if you were in a swing state your vote might mean something, but you're not, so you might as well vote your conscience.

Support Rand, Amash & other liberty candidates? Check out:

I will vote my conscience! Thanks! Besides, we have to keep Texas red. Thanks. ;)

So you actively support Mitt

So you actively support Mitt Romney?

Texas is going to remain red for at least the next 12 years. Romney will win Texas with or without the libertarian vote this year.

Support Rand, Amash & other liberty candidates? Check out:

You hope A Republican administration will get us closer to what

"I hope a Republican administration will get us closer to what I want."

It's a fantasy.

I see a cheater of a candidate, I expect a cheater in the oval office.

He didn't have to cheat to win, but he did anyway. So now the Party lines up behind a cheater and call it party unity.

Free includes debt-free!

For what its worth...

I'm convinced that voting for president is pointless. I think voting in local elections may not be completely pointless but the entire politcal system seems so corrupt that even if we get liberty candidates peppered all over the country I'm not very confident they could accomplish much.

I'm 49 and in my opinion until Ross Perot ran for President there was never enough difference in the candidates for me to waste my time voting. So my first vote went to Ross Perot. The way Ross Perot was marginalized made me realize that even if there WAS a candidate that was different enough for me to take the time to vote...the establishment would essentially make it impossible for that candidate to have any real chance of winning.

I had every intention of voting for the 2nd time in my life this year (and in fact I did vote for RP in the primary) but after watching everything that went on this year...I'm right back where I have always been...not enough difference in the 2 candidates for me to waste my time voting...and the marginalized candidate this year was also RP...just Ron Paul instead of Ross Perot.

As far as the up-down voting system here on the DP, I have mixed feelings but whether it stays or goes would have zero influence on the time I spend on this site.

I often find it helpful when my comments are voted down by a number of people because I value the ideas and the thinking of a lot people on this site. When I make a comment that is down voted en causes me to reconsider what I wrote and I try to evaluate if my reasoning on whatever the topic happened to be was somehow flawed. Sometimes my thinking IS flawed and it helps me grow intellectually.

So, I don't take being down voted personally...but I have to admit that it does make me feel good when a lot of people up vote my comments.

I've also never really noticed all the "in fighting" that so many of you talk about. Maybe I'm just not very observant or I just don't pay much attention to posts where people are personally attacking each other...but I honestly haven't noticed all the battles apparently being waged right in front of my eyes. :O

In the end, I've never enjoyed posting on any site as much as I enjoy posting on the DP...and I now rarely post anywhere else.

The anybody but Romney & Obama

I hope Ron Paul is able to pull a rabbit out of his hat, but if not I'll most likely vote for johnson because the don't count write-ins in Florida.

Voting for GJ because write-in for RP won't count

I am pretty much a purist, and I am not thrilled with Gary Johnson but I am voting for him because that is the only way that I know how to stick it to the RNC. A write in vote for Ron Paul would not be counted in my state.

"I can't bring myself to vote for anyone else"

Pretty much describes where I am.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy, but the GOP dirty tricks at Tampa killed the last of my hope. The political game shuts out or corrupts anyone who tries to change it. It will use all means fair and foul to protect its source of keeping power.

So go ahead, support and vote for Gary Johnson, Rand Paul, whomever who is a lower case libertarian. They are better than the others--for now. But in time they will morph into the monsters they pledged to fight, because they all hold to the strategy of compromise as a means to change the system. That's like going to Las Vegas optimistically thinking you can beat the house--and we know in the long run the house always wins!

We can still win the White House

It is still possible to get Ron Paul or Gary Johnson in the White House.

Method: Throw the election of the President to the House and let the die roll on January 3, 2013.

Why: It is the only practical way left now to get Ron Paul in the White House.

How: By denying both Obama and Romney a clear majority of 270+ Electoral College Votes (ECV) on November 6.

Process: Help RP win IA, ME, MN, AK and NH with a “severe” write-in campaign("A must read"). Total of 27 ECVs. Help Johnson win NM, NV and CO (another 20 ECVs.)

Details: Ignoring the fact that Virgil Goode is a dark horse in VA with the possibility of winning the state, if all "other" candidates win 40 ECVs and Romney and Obama are nearly matched, they each get an average of 249 (Half of 538-40) ECVs in December and the House gets the burden of selecting the new president from the top three ECV candidates. Paul or Johnson will be number three along with Obama and Romney. Also 24 states impose no penalty on the Electors voting their conscience, and not their mandate so it is possible that someone from other states like TX or MN will place a vote for RP. In many other states, the penalty is not a lot more than a slap on the wrist.

The House votes by state and 26 states will need to be won to select the President. It is unlikely that Obama and Romney will cede any territory to each other publicly so there is a chance that Ron Paul can eke out a victory by the March 3rd deadline before the VP selected by the Senate becomes the President (Biden?) if the House has not decided. You may end up with a Paul/Biden team. Remember, it is the newly elected House and Senate that will decide these elections.

3. Elect Liberty minded people to Congress. That is the long term solution.

Sounds nice? Now let us make it happen.

Plan B

1. Hope that Johnson and Paul get together soon. The deadline for that is practically Sept. 14 because of the need to print overseas and military ballots. This will affect Plan A as we may end up with a Johnson/Biden term but what the heck, I would take that over anything else that is offered.
2. Make a lot of noise about getting Johnson in the debates. Get on the campaign to armtwist various pollers to include Johnson in the polls. He needs to show 15% in 5 polls to make the debates. How inconvenient when the polls don’t even include him. Break the logjam. There is only a couple of weeks left for this to happen.

Plan C

Obama with a four year deadlocked congress is better than eight years of Romney. Just keep that in your mind if plan A is not feasible. For CA voters, vote for Romney is a total waste. Dems control CA and BO is surely in regardless of your futile gestures. May as well vote for Paul or Johnson rather than encourage them bastards fo not giving you a real choice by voting for Romney. And fly your flag half mast until Liberty to smoke whatever, marry whatever, do whatever without Fed control is fully restored.

Where is the good Doctor when the country really needs him.

For the crime of telling the truth, Ron Paul MUST be sentenced to serve four years in the White House.

I ordered Johnson bumper stickers and a button yesterday...just in case.

Although I disagree with his pro-choice stand, I'm definitely in the vote Gary Johnson camp. Let's send the GOP a message.

You missed the I'll make my vote count but I not inspired

I hope Ron Paul is able to pull a rabit out of his hat, but if not I'll most likely vote for johnson because the don't count write-ins in Florida.

LOve the R3volution

About The Slogan, "No One Paul".

Ron Paul like the former president Ronald Reagan gave me hope, hope for the future, the future for a better america. President Ronald Reagan deeply disappointed me. First, he appointed most of his cabinet from the CFR and Trilateral commission.

Second, he didn't make good on his promises to get rid of the department of education and getting us back on the gold standard. He also increased the national debt and increased the military industrial complex.

The only other candidate that inspired me was Ron Paul. a non politician, attempting to right the wrongs created over the last 100 years. In the world of politics, it is nearly impossible for a true christian man, speaking truth to lies to win high office because many people are still suckers for the traditional republican lies, especially the very elderly who depend on gifts from santa claus to sustain their comfort zone.

The truth is, with the lies, the distortions coming from the media, the lying candidates, lack of sufficient funds, made it very difficult for Dr. Paul to compete and win against the well protected "Mitt" Romney

I'm so very sure that some of Dr. Paul's staff and campaign advisors were not cut from the same cloth.

Dr. Paul unwittingly, surrounded himself with incompetent or unscrupuleous people, people that didn't have his best interest at heart. Some tried and succeeded in pulling him in other directions, in my opinion. It was obvious to many of us that there was a big disconnect between the 'Benton Gang' and Dr. Paul and his allies within the campaign.

The short of it is that there really isn't a candidate I trust out there to do right by me, the american people, and our constitutional republic..

To embrace anyone that falls short of my expectations would be foolish and dangerous, in my opinion.

At this point in time, however, it appears we have no other choices except a big government republican and a big government democrat..A party of one goat, or if you will 'two horns' on the same goat.

To me, its no about factions, its about the future of america. Do we have any real choices from the world of politics? Is there anyone out there we can rally behind that will have any chance of championing our movement toward liberty?

At this point, I think not..

All Ron Paul supporters believe in liberty. I don't see why we all don't vote for Gary Johnson. He's running the libertarian party. Third biggest party in the US. Ron Paul likes him. Writing in Ron Paul's name won't help the liberty movement. He lead us to this point and he won't tell us what to do but he said he is voting and we know he wouldn't vote for robomney and wouldn't write his own name in. Sounds like he's goin vote for the libertarian canidate. Hell, he ran for pres in the libertarian party in 88.

Why wouldn't/couldn't he

Why wouldn't/couldn't he write his own name in?

Though in the end, and at least as of now, voting GJ seems like the best choice for me, though I'm not decided at all, and I think a lot of people aren't either because we still haven't gotten over the idea of a Ron Paul president. It's like a break up. Some can get over it more quickly, others always hope there is that small chance they will get back together again. Not being able to get over it and think ahead may affect our movement some, especially if we cling on until January. That said, I'm not over it either and my mind is still jumbled. We have been so focused on one thing, our minds may require a little bit of a reset.

I know I will certainly NOT vote Rom or Obam, although I agree with the assertions that we have a better chance of a a 2016 liberty candidate in the GOP with Obama in another 4 years. Like Ben Swann said about the RNC, if the GOP is gonna give a little, it's gonna take a little. I think they know they'll have to give just enough during Rom's presidency, if he wins, to appease the people, while of course still making things much worse behind the scenes.

I COULD vote for Johnson.

I think I could and probably WOULD vote for Johnson (or the constitution party candidate) IF Ron Paul were no longer living. To me, if I am going to vote for someone who has no chance of voting, I may as well vote for the one who stands for what I believe in, almost to a Tee.

So you'll vote based on how

So you'll vote based on how you feel rather than to try creating positive change.

"Voting your conscious" doesn't mean voting how you feel or what makes you feel the best. It means using critical thinking AND THEN weighing the outcomes and putting that against your principles.

Thank you... I've been repeating myself ad nauseum about this. One of the biggest things we've been telling people is principle over party. That stands as true now as it did before. I've been preaching this... Now it's time to live it.

SteveMT's picture

"principle over party," I like that a lot.

That "principle over party" faction is what I believe is the biggest part of the Liberty Movement.

This principle over party was easy to identify with when Ron Paul was in the picture. He already represented everything that mattered. Without him, things become more difficult. However, this principle is still there staring us in the face as clear as ever. That principle is the Constitution. It's what inspired Ron Paul; he was grounded in the Constitution. So should we be also. Instead of "principle over party," this phrase really means "the Constitution over party." We are in search of the next face to be directly associated with the Constitution.

Actually, there are really only 2 Factions now...

Those who still respect Dr Paul's plan to take over the GoP and others who think they are smarter than Paul (because they're all hurt that the official campaign wasn't what they wanted).

Who we vote for in the popular vote is just something being beaten over our head by GJ Supporters--and has been since he started running.

All of the 'factions' you listed are just natural opinions to being ramrodded, spammed, and basically trolled into voting for GJ.

I don't care who anyone votes for--never did. This thread seems like yet another not-so-subtle dig at Ron Paul Supporters. Funny how voting for GJ "to send a message to the GOP" is characterized as the only sane voice.

And of course... Following RP... you're a looney now on the Daily 'P AU L'

In fact GJ Supporters have already pushed this line of thinking with a poll to make GJ look good. Funny how RP being written in beat out GJ--so what did they do? Create another poll and post a slightly reworded version of the thread.

I'm guessing this is attempt 3+--have Nystrom take an opinion survey?

1. A write-in for Paul has

1. A write-in for Paul has nothing to do with taking over the GOP.

2. A vote for Johnson gives us a larger upper hand with the GOP in 2016 than a write-in for Paul does.

3. Support for Johnson can get him into the national debates and reach MILLIONS of Americans to the HUGE similarities between Romney/Obama versus the focusing they would be doing on their minute differences... as well as get people interested in looking up "libertarianism" and "Ron Paul" for themselves.

4. Paul said he didn't trust Romney, Obama was only slightly worse, and that he thought great things of Johnson and people (those that listen to him) should check him out for the reasons he gave. The disclaimer he gives EVERYONE about endorsements and who his supporters vote for as "I have no control" is in order to keep the GOP and mainstream media from painting the movement as a fluke when he's out of the picture and his drones of supporters that are willing to change their write-ins to Johnson votes BASED ON AN ENDORSEMENT that he CAN'T GIVE have no one to give them directions.

5. This is a libertarian forum more than a "PAUL" forum. "Dedicated to the upholding of the constitution in the USA" is the mantra of the site. "INSPIRED by Ron Paul"... dedications via the name and some forum space to a now non-existent campaign.

6. "write-ins for Paul" VS "votes for Johnson" polls are what people are choosing based on the way they came to their conclusion. Many on the write-in side are full of intentional misconceptions and fallacies and avoid being caught in their contradictions at all cost. Having more people agree with a fallacious claim or position built on emotional and simplistic thinking VS objective reasoning and critical thinking only shows that there are MORE people sabotaging the potential of the liberty movement WHILE ALSO telling themselves they're not.

I have to agree with you

I have to agree with you Michael :)

Write-in Dr. Ron Paul. Already voted for him in the Primary.
