Rand Paul: 'I Don't Believe Jesus Would've Condoned Killing'

"Once again, Senator Rand Paul is confounding the normal categories into which we place politicians. A Southern, pro-life Republican, he took his anti-war message to a Values Voters Summit, telling the socially conservative audience -- usually regarded as antagonistic to libertarians -- that Jesus Christ wouldn't approve of most wars, perhaps even wars of self-defense."

Great speech Rand!

Wow! Rand solves the world's problems in 13 minutes!

Ron solved the world's problems in 5 seconds when he

suggested we follow the Golden Rule in foreign policy: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If we all followed this 1 simple rule the world would be a much more pleasant place.

Yes, you are exactly right!

And to imagine that the Golden Rule was laughed to scorn.

Rand did a good job of brining the golden rule home...to the persons sitting next to each other in the audience. It did take him longer than 5 seconds though.

I appreciate the way Ron Paul spoke truth regardless of his audience. Rand Paul is speaking "to" his audience which makes me question if his message would be the same to any audience. I haven't heard Rand enough, but I have heard his father enough to know the message was not dependent upon who was present.

I'd like to correct Rand slightly

I'd like to correct Rand slightly :

"I am SURE Jesus NEVER wanted us to condone killing."

Let's not have a big Jesus debate

But since you went there. Jesus never contradicted or attacked laws calling for the death penalty.
He told his disciples, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." Luke 22:36

And a contextual argument comes from Jesus praising the Roman Centurion as having the greatest faith in all of Israel. He doesn't tell him to stop being a Roman soldier.

Fair enough. I can tell you what is the Truth

Fair enough.

I can tell you what is the Truth nobody can ignore about Jesus, though :

his Kingdom wasn't on earth at the time he spoke before saving us all.

His Kingdom has only been in the Heavens thus far ... until further "notice".

Now, he did say, in my own words :

"you can abide to the Laws made by Man, this DOES NOT mean you cannot denounce the unjust laws and not fight against them before they pass."

That said, if law of Man is seen as being JUST, for JUSTICE of Man, to punish the traitors or murderers by death, for instance, SO BE IT. BUT ! The second the USAGE of law is perverted to kill the innocent, then in the same second the law has become UNJUST because it is used by the Evil forces.

Fight the evil forces, and the law may become JUSTICE again, for Man, anyway.

Now, that said, if you want clues on the importance I attach to life, here is one, which is not that much unrelated actually, my comment on there :

The rest of the story...

"When our cause it is just"
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Rand Paul is like "Ron Paul for Dummies"

Forget 'blowback' and non-interventionism, this simple message of "I don't believe Jesus would've condoned killing" leaves even the most thick-skulled neocon with few options besides understanding.

Unlike Ron Paul, Rand is bilingual. Both Ron and Rand speak conservatism as their native language (unlike Mitt who speaks it as a second language), but Rand also speaks fluent GOPmoronism. He has a way of communicating with the dumbest, most anti-intellectual Republicans. He is kind of like Anne Sullivan, or the trainer of Koko the Gorilla.

Now if only he could figure out a way to explain basic free-market principles to ferociously ignorant economic-illiterate progressives...

Oh hahah

That was marvellous!

ahah Koko the Gorilla, made me laugh!

Great comment Mark

hahaha, I totally agree.

I think Rand is in a hard place . . .

right now; I think his heart is right--

but somehow he got all muddled up with the GOP--

who knows why or when . . .--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Careful Rand

You'll be blacklisted in the Grand Ole Pig party if you talk like that! You endorsed Robney, so you know the wars and killing are all good, so shut up now, and get in line.

I don't believe Jesus would 've endorsed romney.

Most of us here realize that both obama and romney refuse to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, which will DIRECTLY lead to more deaths of troops and civilians.Yet most voters plan on voting for obama or romney.See the problem here? The problem is politicians like obama and romney and the people who keep voting for them.We need to directly challenge the obama and romney voters with points such as the first sentence in this post.Maybe we could get behind and fund an ad that promotes the principles of truth, freedom and peace and point out why we think voting for obama or romney is wrong.

You have to look at what's seen and what's not seen.

If Obama gets a second term, Roe v. Wade will NEVER be overturned. Babies will continue to get butchered, many of them viable by the hundreds of thousands every year in this country. If Romney wins, there is a great chance he will get a an opportunity to appoint two pro-life Justices. That would tip the pro-life balance on the Court.

The GOP controlled the

The GOP controlled the Presidency and both houses of congress in the 2000's and did jack sh!t. Something you might not know is that Congress can pass by a simple majority a bill to remove jurisdiction of the Supreme Court over abortion cases on appeal.

Furthermore, two pro life justices would not tip the balance because they would be replacing at least one pro-life justice(Scalia) and likely the pro choicer Ginsburg. Kennedy is pro choice. Also, you know that Roberts will not overturn Roe. So it would be Thomas, Alito, and the two newbies vs Kenendy, Sotomayor, Roberts, Kagan and Breyer.

Ventura 2012

bull shit.... Just like that

bull shit.... Just like that bastion of conservatism Roberts who was appointed by Bush, gave his clean bill of health to obama care. They are all bought and sold by the same exact people. If you think Romney would overturn Roe vs. wade, I have swamp land in Pheonix to sell you. This is the same BS excuse to vote for Romney that hear from all my neocon friends.

I like you wish that Roe vs wade would be overturned but you will not see that till you have a Ron Paul, Rand Paul elected, or extremly hard times hit the people of this nation where they get thier priorties in order. As Rand said we have a spiritual and moral problem in this country. People do not find and return to God until they suffer. That suffering is coming.

Just one question.

What party did the presidents that appointed the three Justices on the Court that ARE anti-Roe belong to? If Obama gets a second term, we can all rest assured that the SCOTUS will never overturn Roe v. Wade.

That's a good point; I

That's a good point; I haven't thought about the SC issue. I couln't think of a single reason to prefer Mitt over Obama. Perhaps if Mitt got in, the left would all of a sudden be concerned about war. That could be a plus for the country.

Nevertheless, I am only writing in Dr. Paul.

Ron Paul or none at all!!!

Too bad his own son couldn't take that stance!!!! F'ing amazing!!!

Not usually a big Rand fan...

...but I'm listening now.

Now if he can back up his words with actions, I might consider voting for him. While he is no Ron, Rand is his father's son. Just as I am my father's son, I share much in common with him, and know he is proud for who I am.

Who would Jesus kill? Easy Answer

Who would Jesus kill? No one.

Jesus was the Prince of Peace, he did not preach perpetual war.

"One resists the invasion of armies; one does not resist the invasion of ideas" Victor Hugo

Note the audience

When he was talking about the horrors of war and the questions about war being reconcilable with Christianity..... you could have heard a pin drop! Uncomfortable silence filled the room

Once he moved on to abortion he was back in their comfort zone and the crowd went wild.

I am totally unable to conceive of the fact that people do not associate the two issues.

But maybe with more people speaking like this and tying it all together, little by little the message will get through.

Really great speech IMHO. A

Really great speech IMHO. A lot of the support the Neo-cons get are from fundemental Christians. It could tie in with the RP Senior position on the foreign policy.

*Wisconsin Constitution* Article I, Section 25 "The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other law-abiding purpose"

...and if fundamental Christians....(in the GOP, for Neo-Cons)

...would actually read their BIBLE's, they would be for Ron Paul!

This is

a beautiful speech. Love it.

He probably doesn't approve of a lot of things

the government does but they only go to church to keep up appearances.
