Maybe this is the main reason Ron Paul will not endorse Gary Johnson.

The GOP leadership could strip Ron Paul of his subcommittee chairmanship and Ron Paul believes his subcommittee hearings are more important for the cause of liberty than a Gary Johnson endorsement.

Keep the influence while we have it

Dr. Paul is a wise man knowing that an endorsement at this time will endanger his leadership in the Congress at dangerous time for America known as a "lame duck Congress." Lame ducks haven't got a thing to lose by passing unpopular legislation like NAFTA, which, as I recall was brought up for a vote by Bob Dole in lame duck session.

Why is it that we cannot trust the Republican "right wing" of the Establishment any more than we can trust its left wing the Democrats?

NAFTA was signed by President George H.W. Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1992. It was ratified by the legislatures of the three countries in 1993. The U.S. House of Representatives approved it by 234 to 200 on November 17, 1993. The U.S. Senate approved it by 60 to 38 on November 20, three days later. It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on December 8, 1993 and entered force January 1, 1994. Although it was signed by President Bush, it was a priority of President Clinton's, and its passage is considered one of his first successes. (Source: History.com, NAFTA Signed into Law, December 8, 1993)

The impetus for NAFTA actually began with President Ronald Reagan, who campaigned on a North American common market. In 1984, Congress passed the Trade and Tariff Act.

The reason Ron Paul would not EVER endorse GJ is because GJ is dirty, and Ron Paul is certain- otherwise he would endorse.

When Ron finds out someone is dirty and has unclean hands- he politely compliments, THEN BACKS OFF!

"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!

Rand Paul 2016

that is interesting--

he was polite to Romney, too--

Are Johnson and Romney more dirty than Santorum; Dr. Paul was a bit more critical of Santorum--

did he think that, in spite of his inconsistency, there was hope for Santorum, while here is none for Romney and Johnson?

Interesting thing to think about--

Wasn't Santorum the only one he really went after in debates?

But then Santorum was feisty towards Dr. Paul--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

They all play in the same hog slop, The difference is Santorum has a dirty "conservative" voting record and has/had millions, fooled.
Santorum was the real neo on the stage. Ron kneww it and worried over Santorum catching hold, I think... I guess he viewed Santorum as More of a threat then Romney. If you think about it, Santorum was on his way up as well, but put on the brakes- just like Ron did...Why?? Was Romney not "the chosen one"???... Did RP know Santorum was "chosen" and threw a monkey wrench in the entire Santorum campaign??? That is what RP did, when one looks back.
RP stopped Santorum and left Romney alone.
No one was fooled with Romney. Conservatives knew his voting/governing history, but they all seemed to give Santorum a pass.
I think Ron went after Santorum for a few reasons.
1. Santorum had many Texans fooled about being a "true" fiscal conservative and this greatly BUGGED ron. Santorum and Romney BOTH sat out the Texas state convention.. what was that about?
The largest state convention and neither were in attendance? RP gave his best speech to cheers heard for blocks around the convention hall.
2. Santorum had attacked RP and his supporters before and payback was due.
3. Ron simply does not like Santorum and was easy to "go after".
Easy pickings for Ron because RP's repeated attacks on Santorum ended up exposing him for the lying liberal weasel, that he is.
4. RP knew Santorum was the real "chosen" one and took him OUT!
Paul slammed Santorum, and things were happening no one else saw, because Rick could only withstand a few weeks of punishment and dropped out. His record was EXPOSED by us, RP.
I think RP had to make a choice to either derail the Romney campaign OR the Santorum campaign, and he chose lil Ricky.
Those are just my thoughts, but cant wait for Rons book to come out!
I can only IMAGINE what RP had to deal with in 2012 cmpiagn season!

"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!

Rand Paul 2016

He went after gingstinch too.

I think he saw those two as nasty people and of course they directly attacked him.. GJ and Rompulater (you know he would too) he sees as at least having pleasant personalities.

GJ comes off as a nice guy but I would never vote for him..

I think Rompulater tries to come off as a nice guy but is a weasel. Regardless, he was pleasant to Dr.Paul's face so no bitch-slap was needed. :)

Superb Reason

Gary Johnson is not going to win this Presidential election. In fact, it looks like neither will Mitt Romney. So, why should Congressman Paul tanish his image or lose his chairmanship in the process for a political candidate that will receive under 750k votes. I recently took a survey that linked 90% of my views with Gary Johnson and 89% aligned with the Republican Party. Gary Johnson more closly aligns with the Republican Party than Mitt Romney. Of course, Anybody But Obama theme convinced over nine million people to choose Mittens.

Party issue, not a personal issue

Dr. Paul speaks well of Gov. Johnson & Johnson admires Dr. Paul.

Its a party conflict if he officially endorses a Libertarian candidate:

*Rand Paul tied to GOP.
*Dr. Paul still a GOP congressman.

"One resists the invasion of armies; one does not resist the invasion of ideas" Victor Hugo

Yeah, thats the reason

other Ron Paul would endorse the next torch holder, Gary Johnson!

A Ron Paul endorsement for

A Ron Paul endorsement for Gary Johnson would be seen as a direct take-down of the republican party by those republicans who we have not yet reached with our message. Also, Ron Paul has been clear that the strategy does not lie with the libertarian party from day one. After 1988, Ron Paul changed his mind and entered into the republican party. How he came to this decision is probably not understood by most of his supporters.

Ron Paul never decided that "the strategy" doesn't lie

with the Libertarian Party. It simply wasn't practical for him. In 2008 he made a strong push for third party participation and this has been a consistent theme with him. The problem was that for him personally it simply was more practical to remain with the GOP.

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

Gitmo Gary is pro-choice

Ron Paul would NEVER endorse a candidate who supported abortion, among other things.

“It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Who cares about pro-choice or not?

1. Seriously, what is up with Americans and the battle between pro-choice vs pro-life?

2. There are more important issues than this! This is so very very petty for goodness sake.

3. I believe the two most important thing are the fiscal policy (the fed) and foreign relation (non-intervention). These two outweigh all the others.

4. Look at the number of interviews Ron Paul gave in the media. Please count how many times he talked about the above two goals compared to the pro-choice vs pro-life debacle?

Non-Presidential Issues

I agree with you, as that should be a state issue, not fed/presidential.

I agree with Katniss on many things. However in my opinion, Americans are too distracted by non-presidential issues and not focused on what is at the heart of the matter, such as the Fed, upholding the Constitutional, non-intervention, etc.

Once the Constitution is upheld, many things should/will work themselves out. We can address other things later, or at the personal/local/state level.

I am not endorsing or rejecting GJ. I am simply stating matters of fact.

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

Remember Doug Wead

said Romney blackmailed Dr Paul and that is why he quit campaigning and failed to ding Romney in the debates. There is something we don't know. An RP endorsement of Johnson and a couple of joint appearances would crush the already weakened Romney campaign. Ron Paul has the courage to refuse to endorse Romney - they made a deal that Rand would do it because they thought that Jesse Benton and Rand could convince the liberty movement to vote Romney even without RP's endorsement. A deal was struck- Doug Wead says it was blackmail - we just don't know the specifics of Romney's threats.

any guesses? its gotta be

any guesses? its gotta be something other than the newsletters right?

Something to do with Benton

Is my guess. Some kind of attack on his personal life or his family.

Johnson is in some ways

more libertine than Paul. I believe Ron is a quiet social conservative while Johnson is a social liberal. On economics and all the rest they are practically identical.

that's a good word choice--"libertine"--

he divorced his wife; she had a heart attack and died, and now he is not married but has a 'companion'--

at heart the man is not socially conservative--

Dr. Paul allows others to make mistakes, but he has been careful in his personal life; Johnson has not been careful--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

I don't think it is possible to be more socially liberal

I don't think it is possible to be more socially liberal than Ron Paul.

Here is the formula:

Does what you want to do infringe another's liberty, self, or property?

No: Have at it
Yes: Hold on....

If you believe Ron is denying a woman's 'right to choose' - Ron is actually defending the unborn's life.

Main reason

why Ron won't endorse GJ is probably the same why he won't endorse romney - their policies do not align.

Just because someone repeatedly states he is for freedom doesn't really make it so, a lot of bad things have been done in the name of freedom.

I think Ron Paul is not

I think Ron Paul is not endorsing a candidate because he believes in freedom and would never tell us how we should vote. He told us to look at the other candidates and make up our own mind. He does not consider us sheep who must be herded along by a dog biting us in the but if we don't go the direction the master chooses.

In 2008

he urged us all to vote for Chuck Baldwin.

Ron Paul is My President

Yes, he did

I believe there were two reasons

The first was constant badgering to endorse someone, and finally Bob Barr being too pushy. I don't think he was going to "endorse" anyone, actually, until Barr was being impossible.

Secondly, I cannot think (off the top of my head) of a single position that Chuck Baldwin holds that is not in line with RP's positions.

The same cannot be said for Gary Johnson. This does not mean that Dr. Paul may not VOTE for Johnson. He is just not endorsing him.

I find it interesting that so many find it hard to believe that some of us just don't LIKE Gary Johnson because of his wishy washy "pick and chose" libertarianism.

I wish they would figure out that DR. PAUL IS NOT GOING TO ENDORSE ANYONE!!!! HELLOOOOOOO!!!!

Thomas Jefferson: “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."

Viva La Revolucion!

Baldwin's personal life . . .

is as above reproach as Ron Paul's--

so is Romney's; in spite of his very dirty business and political dealings, Romney has no skeletons in the closet with regards to his marriage--

I believe this is why Dr. Paul treated him with respect--

he was very open about not agreeing with Romney politically, and he didn't attack Romney's business ethics, because he probably didn't have information about them--

as most of *us* did not until after the debates--

there were rumors, but that was all--

as for Johnson, Dr. Paul is not going to respect a man who divorces his wife and now has a 'companion'--

I think he didn't respect Gingrich for the same reasons--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Great article from Boston.com on GJ

GJ said:

“I maintain that because of our military interventions we have hundreds of millions of enemies to this country that, but for our military interventions, would not exist,” Johnson told a crowd of college students at the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday.

“Let’s get out of these embassies now. Let’s stop making ourselves a target,” Johnson said.

During his speech Johnson, who is at the beginning of a nationwide tour of college campuses, said that politicians use terms like “our vital American interests” as cover for violent military actions that cause more harm than good for the United States.

“Tens of thousands of innocent civilians that die in the countries that we militarily intervene, our men and servicewomen coming back in body bags, our men and servicewomen coming back with their limbs blown off, all in the name of what?” he said.

I find it hard to understand why some people here don't like a candidate who says he wants to cut Pentagon budget by 43%.
Meanwhile his GOP opponent wants to... increase Pentagon budget.
