February 7, 2008 - Did Romney Take a Dive?

On 2-7-08 Mittens suspended his campaign. I think most will agree with me that Romney could have really bloodied McCain, had he continued on. I even had some of local GOP (TX) visit DC during this period and returned saying that Romney had been promised the '12 nomination for doing so. My sources attributed these rumors to the Delay and Armey camps.

I'm curious if anyone has heard similar accounts.

Oh, no doubt.

That was obvious in '08. And it looks like Frothy did the same thing this year that Rombama did in '08.
McCain wasn't supposed to win in '08, either.

I'm wanderings?

if all of you know this
why not start a new party now
by the time the new election comes along we will be ready

can any one tell me pleazzzzzzzzzzzze!

Cacama

So what about McCain

So what if McCain had won? 2016?

Personally, I would have...

Prefered Romney to be the candidate then than now. I actually think he might have won.

of course he did that is why the Republicans supported him

this year. Its an age old tradition with the republicans.Back off and let the front running "unify" the party.

McCain backed off in 2000 for Bush and got rewarded in 2008.

Santorum played his part so well for the Republicans, he will be the establishment front runner in 2016

new soundbite:

The traditional GOP back-off. So the '16 talking points will include the Santorum back-off and how we got stuck with Romney because of him and Newt endorsing to soon to avoid brokered convention.

No Rmoney

didn't take a dive he is just that effing bad.

Rmoney stepped aside for McShame because Rmoney had problems in the south because he is a mormon. Notice though, like Jesse Ventura said, all the pro mormon ads popping up on youtube after the election in 2008...all to pave the way for Rmoney in 2012.

Absolutely.

I have no proof but I know that happened. Why do you think that Romney has been the front runner this entire time from the media?

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

Duh. Now Romney, like McCain, has shopped around the Nom

And is giving it up to Obama for favors (a lot like RINO Trump as well).

Obama just recently appointed members of Bain Capitol to key positions in his administration--just another coincidence?

It's all about making deals and money. You can ONLY be President if they [s]Elect you.

ROMNEY: You are with me all

ROMNEY: You are with me all the way to the convention. Fight on, just like Ronald Reagan did in 1976.

This quote really caught my eye amid the tyrannical rules change, but if this is what it comes down to - machines selecting candidates - I'm not up for it. Dr. Paul might have well changed the machine's intentions and now a great minority is understanding how this country is politically ran.

That is what I always thought, too

That's when all the talk of the 'brokered convention' started up, and how it would benefit Dr. Paul - give him an opening. By that time the race was by no means over. They could have gone down to the wire, neck and neck.

How did they decide who would take the dive - McCain or Romney? The GOP seems so old fashioned - everyone waits in line for their turn to run. It seemed that because McCain was so old, they gave '08 to him. Since Romney was younger, he was promised '12.

I always thought is was so strange how none of the candidates this time around ever really attacked Romney - including Dr. Paul. They all kind of bickered amongst themselves, but let Mitt off the hook. Remember how Pawlenty backed down early in one of the debates? He had the chance to go for Mitt's neck, and he demurred. Santorum and Gingrich were the only ones who did somewhat go after him. It was like they didn't get the memo that the race already belonged to Romney.

Of course this is all speculation and conjecture, and we are being discouraged from such 'conspiracy' talk. lol. But I don't care about that. Thanks for bringing it up.

I never heard anything specific. I remember talk of it here on the DP back then, but I don't have any specific evidence. The the circumstantial stuff and connecting the dots.

He's the man.

I was on here and everywhere telling anyone that would listen

That RP had to go after Romney, yet he only did it one ad where he went after all 3 of them and it wasn't nearly good enough to hurt Romney in any way. Really pissed me off because I knew Romney was the "annointed one" and if Ron Paul had just went after him guns blazing and only focused on him he could have crushed him all by himself, he had the means to do it yet never did. Its just disappointing and there is no other way to say it. Then he came out with all this nonsense about how they're "great friends" and their families get along or some hogwash that doesn't matter. I love RP but we need a real candidate who won't be afraid to busts some ass when it needs to be done. I'm tired of candidates who want to be "nice". "Nice" doesn't win elections.

Next in line: Correct

Michael you hit the nail on the head. As someone that just won my State Senate primary (IA) and am currently in the General Election I know that some of it was proving myself over the last couple of years. Knowing how this works can be used tremendously to the liberty movement's advantage. Just get involved, become the next in line, and for goodness sakes don't sell out. Pretty simple *-)

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but the

Time to get over Ron Paul Mike!

With the greatest respect, its time to move on from Ron Paul. In hindsight, the campaign was awful! We gave it everyting it needed to do much better so of course there is something going on here.

When are you going to endorse Gary Johnson? We need to get our numbers to grow and joining the Johnson campaign may bear much sweeter fruit than Ron Pauls tree. Ending the wars including the one on drugs seems like something worth fighting for, he also wants to put pressure on the FED! What say you Mike?

what will you do if you dont have your freedom

That's the thing,

Paul supporters are wise enough to make up their own minds. We are all individuals; people can make their own decisions individually. If they need someone to tell them how to vote, they probably shouldn't be voting in the first place.
