Wow, a lot to learn about. . .

. . . to an e-moron, it's a challenge, but absolutely fascinating!

Thanks for posting, happyG. Keep on educating us on "competing currency"!

No problems

do you know how to make the youtube video be embedded?

I'm pretty sure the gubberment

owns all master keys to encryption per a bill that was passed in the early 90's for "national security". I may be wrong here because I can't find it and don't honestly remember much about it. It was on tv in the news at the time though.

You would think though with people that have grown up in the digital age, that they might be fully aware of the dangers a digital anything presents.

No digital system is safe. If it threatens their interest, they will address it...and let us not forget the many who would try to just steal what you have.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution, inevitable.

In that sense, NOTHING is safe

I have to disagree, saying that digital systems are not safe is like saying life is not safe. It is true, but only you can do something about making your real/digital life "safe"

about the gubberment having access to some magical key to unlock all the bitcoin wallets... I don't believe so. Bitcoin is based on public key cryptography. It is working because no-one has a master key to unlock it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography

if this changes in the future, bitcoin can change with the time, and change the encryption that is used to keep the transaction record safe from decryption and other attacks

You disagree then make a connection to life then agree that it's

true? You flipped more in that sentence than a cook at IHOP.

Life is dangerous. So is holding real gold.. so are tons of things but there is risk assessment that you can use if you have a brain that's working on all cylinders.

Gold can be stolen but statistically speaking it's less likely depending of course on who you tell and how many people.

Versus bitcoin that's hooked to millions of computers with thousands iof people trolling for information, trying to scan your computer, trying to place viruses etc..etc.. and that JUST the average person doing it. The government has the best hackers in the world, the best computer scientists..etc..etc.

Here I just found this and it's somewhat recent.

That's just a quick search.. there are many more stories out.

Try to think ahead a little. Do you really think that if they began to see bitcoin as a threat that they wouldn't brand it as a haven for thieves and terrorists, thereby gaining access to it?

Any form of digital life can be circumvented and has been at one time or another and in ever increasing frequency.

Hell man, I'm not even getting into the other issues I have with it in general.

As a novelty.. sure it's probably fun but it won't ever gain enough traction to go anywhere.

Nah buying gold and silver with cash and no identifying information given while never telling anyone that you have it.. is a much safer bet on many fronts.
