Why Rand Paul doesn't need your vote in the 2016 Republican primary

For those of you who 'will never vote for Rand Paul'. He'll get most of the Santorum/Gingrich tea party vote, most of the liberty vote, some of the Romney types will come around, others will be in nursing homes or dead by that time. I think his strategy is sound. A close association with the ideas behind this movement would have been heavy baggage to carry. The vast majority of Republicans are not libertarians and won't be converted by 2016, no matter how much we would like that to happen. Whine all you want, he doesn't need you.

It didn't change

Ron Paul. Not all people are corruptable, although I agree that the numbers that aren't are very small indeed. Only time will tell with Rand.

Rand 2016

While Palin's peeps are trying to come in stealth now, so they don't have to be held to a loyalty oath, we know who they are, and the beauty right now is the GOP know we fought for these seats, knows we were ripped off and I think we're going to do great in 2016. I look forward to it!

How is Rand going to run in 2016 if Romney wins in 2012? 3rd Party?

Which is more important?

The oath we take to party, or the oath we take to the constitution?

I don't understand your reply in reference to my question. I am trying to understand how Rand will run in 2016 if Romney wins in 2012. It isn't normal for the incumbent to have inside competition. So it was a question because I am ignorant as to how it will work. Do you know how it will work for Rand to run in 4 years if Romney wins now? (And I am not saying anything against Romney winning.)

My understanding (((((((((((bear)))))))))))))

It's about the message, not the messanger.. I'm not so worried about when Rand runs or not.. what is the turn around 15 - 20 years? We're only 5 years into this.. We have a lot of learning and development to do. I'm rethinking my Romney vote.

Wbat do you mean you are

Wbat do you mean you are rethinking your Romney vote? Are you going to write in Ron Paul there in cali? Sure wish I could here!

I'm thinking

I have to go work the soup kithcen, if I see Father, I will confeses what I am thinking.. I'll drop by the GOP healdquarters, talk about it this week.. I would owe grassroots an apology, more than a congratulations, afterall.. I could not have participated.. so I have a lot to think about.. should write an article.. ((((bear))))

It is a lot to think about. Very heavy. I will pray for you that you will be able to know and do the right thing.

The oath taken to uphold the Constitution trumps party oath.

But therein lies your the dilemma, Granger. How to justify Romney relative to the importance of following the Constitution? You and Rand are the only ones I know attempting to do this. Romney and the Constitution are diametrically opposed to one another. If the Constitution trumps party, then explain your support for Romney? You cannot use your usual fallback position of having signed a statement to support Romney, since you infer that the Constitution takes precedence over party.

I'm thinking

I may write in Ron Paul because you do have a point.

SteveMT's picture

You made my day, Granger.

Thanks for finally seeing this clearly.

Because he's gonna kick GOP

Because he's gonna kick GOP crap in the 2015 Iowa caucus!

Thomas Jefferson 1796, 1800, 1804; James Madison 1808, 1812; Ron Paul 1988, 2008, 2012; Rand Paul 2016.

in bad economic times

for those in power its life or death. if people are enraged its their end and if they satisfied and things there glorified. if he pulls a way to get the presidency he might not want to fail. this is just thinking how rough the economy will be by that time.

"He'll get most of the Santorum/Gingrich tea party vote, most of the liberty vote, some of the Romney types will come around,"

Pfft... like Paul Ryan and Sarah Palin won't run in 2016. Palins positioning her people now. Paul Ryan is having fun out there, and the people love him more than they do his jackass running-mate. He's probably looking forward to Iowa and New Hampshire in 2016.

Then there's also a possibility, albiet slim possibility, Santorum could run again. Not to mention the possibility of what many Republicans believe is inevitable run by Jeb Bush in the future, and the ever looming question of when.

Oh and whats this I hear about some Allen West character making all the girls crazy?

I'm not shut off to the possibility of supporting Rand in 2016. He's not guaranteed my support, but I am open to the possibility. I'm just giving the examples above to point out, maybe Rand and his supporters shouldn't count their chickens before they're hatched.

Don't forget that neocon

Don't forget that neocon favorite young gun, Marco Rubio.

I might be wrong, but absent a severe stumble by the Floridian, I see no way Rand gets the GOP nod over Marco.

If I were setting odds, I'd favor Ryan, Rubio and even Jeb Bush over Rand in 2016. Rand's not neocon enough, plus, he burned too much of his base this year.

Rand doesn't need my vote because

votes are meaningless. They simply create votes and support out of thin air and claim they have it/them when they don't. Rand sees that the people don't matter and he's getting in good with the mob.

I will

Base my vote in 2016 off of records. If Rand has a good record, he will get my vote.

A politician not needing a vote?

Gimme a break.

I will

Base my vote in 2016 off of records. If Rand has a good record, he will get my vote.

rand is

a flake. im at that point i gave him a fair chance - he will be vp candidate in 16 and he will run for president - he will be one of the 18 propped losers, and he will stay vp = he is the gop's attempt to get the youth and libertarians on board, but they have 0 plan allowing this voice to be the leading voice.... just like the palin, and paul ryan vp's are just attempts to take the grassroots and shut them up - see ur guys vp. i say we move to gettin fair and equal elections and stop the monopoly that is the elections commission's partisan 2 party politics - since when does the government (elections commission) have the right to run our elections - bs. Rand - completely disowned my trust and i see exactly what he is - a pawn.

Ron never had a chance. Rand does.

It's going to be exciting if Rand runs for President in 2016. If he becomes the nominee, we can actually win. Why aren't we excited?

The reality is Ron never had a chance in 2008 nor 2012. We have to change the system from within.

Do you think President Rand Paul would really let down his father?

Let's have a little faith in that. We all know Obama is going to win re-election. Some stuff will get worse and some will get better. I doubt nothing much will change though. The long-term agenda is incremental. Let's prepare for 2016.

egapele's picture

Ron DID have a chance but Rand has a better one.

And, yes, he is our best shot at changing the system from within.

I can't explain why Rand gave

I can't explain why Rand gave up on his dad so early...I can't explain why his dad gave up on his dad so early. I'm still pis$#d at the entire campaign...Benton, Tate, etc...but what's done is done.

While Rand isn't his dad, he's one of the few liberty candidates we have. He's trying to abolish the TSA, end the wars, one of the lone voices against the NDAA, etc.

I'd still support him...though wouldn't contribute any $$ if tate or benton were in his campaign.

But you know what...we're likely far past politics at this point. I highly recommend everyone listen to this...

esp. at the 1 hour mark onward.

My take on things

Schiff and Rand are both 2nd generation freedom fighters. They have seen the system at its worst toward their respective fathers who were both heavily involved in the liberty/freedom movement. They know the score. When Hannity was basking in glory as Rand endorsed Romney, I could see Rand was disgusted. Not that Hannity could tell, he is a sociopath. I have listened many times Rand's interviews with Hannity trying to dissect their relationships. Hannity thinks Rand is being nice, but all the while I can tell (because of my Austrian background) subtle barbs thrown Sean's way. Good thing Sean is no intellectual nor reads the Daily Paul. Remember we are like 10 dudes in our mom's basements playing WoW, eating cheetos and rigging polls by nefariously not hacking them.

It is indisputable to me what the Schiff/Rand strategy is. It is a Cass Sunstein cognitive dissonance tactic. I know many have tried to merge with the establishment in the past. I think Rand knows that as well. We will see if this works out. If those of us who are the sleepest of asleep will wake up.
