11 Years of War: US death toll in Afghanistan hits 2,000

A member of Nato's Afghan force and a civilian contractor have been killed in the latest so-called insider attack by a member of the country's security forces, bringing the US death toll in the conflict up to 2,000.

The attack in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday came after the United States said joint operations with Afghan forces were returning to normal.

Joint operations were halted two weeks ago after a surge of attacks by Afghan allies. At least 52 members of the Nato force have been killed this year in so-called green-on-blue attacks.

The number, while tragic, is BS

The 2000 death are only those that die on the battlefield itself. It doesn't include those who die in an ambulance, helicopter, die in a CASH hospital, die of accidents, die from disease/infection, etc...

The number is probably closer to 20,000 and 85,000 theatre-wide.

It is a nifty little game of semantics they started playing near the end of Vietnam. "2000 combat deaths" or fatalities means actually in combat.

Well... then you need add in "Desert Storm Syndrome" and other forms of DU poisoning.

"Military men are just dumb

"Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy." Henry Kissinger. "America buys war like children gobble candy." Henry Kissinger. In 2007, Zbigniew Brzezinski told the U.S. senate that the "war on Terror" was a 'mythical historical narrative ," or in other words, a complete fiction. Brzezinski and Kissinger have had great influence when it comes to our governments foreign policy sine the early 70's. those who know about"Which Path to Persia" is aware of what has been planned and in all likely hood will happen mainly because of so much ignorance by millions of Americans.

2000 in 11 years? That's not

2000 in 11 years? That's not bad really. In fact, that's really incredible. Why would they pull out of any place with those kinds of numbers? As far as war goes, that might be some kind of record. Hell, that's less that gun violence in the US, or traffic deaths, or deaths associated with bread.

The point is, there are legitimate reasons for not being in a war, but the incredibly low number of deaths in this conflict (on our side) is not one of them.

You are deluded

See me post below. It is probably more around 20,000 dead, 50,000 injured/wounded if you go by percentages - then add in suicides, mental health/brain injury, etc....

All to kill a guy who died in December of 2001.... Yeah, not a reason at all.

I think not. Look at any war

I think not. Look at any war throughout hisotry. These numbers are incredibly low. Even considering up to 100,000 or more, for an 11 year timespan in a 'war' this number is extremely low cost in terms of lives. The point here, again, is that this 'war' needs to stop and should never have been started in the first place, BUT harping about the cost, in terms of lives, will NEVER sway anyone who has the capacity to end it.

Morally, sure, even one life ended or injured is enough for me to end the war. Realistically, there is no general anywhere who wouldn't give his left nut to have these kind of numbers. They aren't going to be motivated to recommend ending it on the basis of the number of lives lost. SO, I emplore you to try to use logic rather than emotion to implement change.

Right....

Thank you Mr. Kissinger.

What is this nonsense about "convincing" the generals. When are you or I ever going to have that opportunity. That is lack of reason my friend.

This war was made by the military industrial complex, corporations. (And, protestant and born-again Christian preachers, of course, to be their free publicity machine) No amount of reasoning will make it end until a great majority of the sheeple wake up. And, given it is a religious war, they will not.

As Dr. Paul always said, the war will end because of a financial collapse. Nothing else will work at this point. The Neocons are too entrenched.

People still believe 14 guys will box-cutters acted alone and outwitted the most sophisticated air defense and intelligence system on earth and suspended the laws of physics. (It helped that they had magic passports protected by Allah that survived the crashes).

Okay, whatever. There comes a

Okay, whatever. There comes a point when a person realizes he is not having a discussion, but rather an argument, and decides to just move on. I'm there.

Half the story

The number of our military men and women that have been crippled, blinded, maimed, and otherwise wounded is about 18000. All completely unnecessary. Source-http://www.defense.gov/news/casualty.pdf

I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts.

That is still incredibly low

That is still incredibly low for 11 years in a "war". Additionally, I think you missed the point.

When the people you are protecting and training

Are turning their weapons you gave them against you, it's a good sign the occupation of their country should probably end.

If only our politicians had as much courage as our troops.

Should drag John Bolton, William Kristol, Elliot Abrams, Bill Kagan, Paul Wolfowitz, Charles Krauthammer and the other idiot Neo-cons outside Kandahar and let them fight.

Hmmm

What courage? Ignorance is more like it.

Wonderfully put Jungleboogie. I've always said that rats like...

...the ones you mentioned should strap on a gun and go over there and see how many Arabs they can kill - before THEY get killed.

But NO - THEY ARE HAPPY to sit in the comfort of their homes and radio studios and advocate sending our military members over to do their Neo-Con bidding.

A few more Arab-hating war-mongers I would add are...

Joe LIEberman, Paul Bremer, Michael Medved, Glen Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, John McCain, DICK Morris, Fred Barnes, John Gibson, Laura Ingraham, Michele Bachmann (and most of the U.S. Congress), George H.W. and W. Bush, DICK Cheney and ALL who run the FOX News channel.

There are thousands of more we haven't mentioned which is a very unfortunate indicator of where our country is today.

How about indirect casualities.

Those who committed suicide because they served in Aghanistan.

Don't let obama and romney supporters hide from this fact.

The fact that both obama and romney refuse to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, which will DIRECTLY lead to more deaths of troops and civilians. So the problem is politicians like obama and romney and the people who keep voting for them.I wish that more liberty/peace candidates would use this point in their ads and videos.

Hmm

Gov goes to war to protect American lives. According to government, American soldiers are not American lives...
