Lies and Ignorance About "Obesity"

There's a lot of propaganda going on right now involving obesity. It's largely been used to increase the amount of control the government can have in "stopping obesity". Obesity is not directly causal of much other than some physical hardships. Obesity is merely the physical result of either an unhealthy lifestyle, medical condition or genes. However, obesity itself does not always determine a persons overall health or lifespan.

The nature of any linkage between type II diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and depression is by no means clear, and some (30-40% of) obese individuals are in good physical and mental health (Bacon, Stern, Van Loan & Keim, 2005).

Although a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 30 kg/m2 places some individuals at risk for physical problems, there is not a one-to-one causal relationship between obesity and these disorders.

Prof. Ortega et al. observed in their study that between 30-40% of obese patients were metabolically healthy. "We made two findings: firstly, metabolically-healthy obese people exhibited better cardiorespiratory fitness –or aerobic fitness-. Secondly, this subgroup has a lower mortality risk rate for heart disease or cancer than other obese people, and has the same mortality risk than people of normal weight."

In all seriousness though, there is little doubt that obesity is yet another "crisis" which the state exploits to increase its power and control (For example, Maire Bloomberg wanting to forbid selling soda drinks above a certain volume, in the name of health) but I am of the opinion that being obese is inherently unhealthy for the body and for the mind. That being said, it all comes down to individual choices of lifestyle, you are the owner of your body as long as you can assume the consequences.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, an

I have been working on

I have been working on changing my eating habits (still a work in progress) and I've noticed that you can improve your metabolic condition rather quickly, even while you're still obese. Thus, obesity actually means nothing. An obese person can be metabolically healthier than a non-obese person.

And to think, our stupid government is starving growing kids in schools by making them eat nasty health food. This will lead to a very real problem - malnourished teenagers. All in the name of an anti-obesity campaign. The effects of lack of food is much more damaging than too much food. I guess Obama wants the kids weak so they can be controlled easier. Growing kids need a lot of food, imo. And some kids are naturally more active and have a higher metabolism than others so some will be very hungry throughout the day now. Thanks Obama/Biden 2012.

Just shows why we need to get rid of public schools.
