"What can I do to get you to vote for Romney?" *Updated*

So at our county central committee last night I was commenting about how the Romney campaign had shot themselves in the foot by the way they treated the RP Republicans.

Later a lady came up to me and told me how desperate she was to get our votes for Romney. "I don't think our country can survive another four years of Obama as president!"

I told her that she was asking a lot of RP Republicans to expect them to turn around and support someone whose campaign had virtually spit in their faces in Tampa and subsequently seemed content to treat us like we didn't exist.

"But what can I do, as an INDIVIDUAL, to win their votes?", she asked.

That had me stumped. I know there were a lot of things I could have said.

I could have told her that she should have been listening to the RP Republicans last January when we were telling her that Ron Paul was the only candidate that could beat Obama.

I could have told her a lot of similar "I told you so's".

But to really answer her question, I was stumped.
I told her I would get back to her.

What should I tell the lady?

Tell her to write to Romney and ask him to start chanting "End the Fed!" at his next rally? Tell him to renounce the new anti-grassroots RNC rules? Tell him to announce that he is no longer going to play ball with the Bilderbergers/CFR/military-industrial-Wall Street complex?

Tell her to forget about it and worry about getting our congressman elected?

I know there is no perfect answer to a question like this. The question itself shows that she doesn't understand the nature of our political situation.

So what should I tell her? What should my message from the RP community be?

============================= UPDATE ============================

Thank you for all of your sincere (and sometimes amusing) comments.
I am sorry I have not had time to read or comment on all of them individually.

Here is my lame but sincere attempt to try to help her (and some of my other committee members)to see the situation through our eyes and maybe get her to help us move the GOP in a positive direction.

"Dear Central Committee Member,

In answer to a question I received at our meeting Monday night (i.e. "What could I do as an individual to persuade Ron Paul Republicans to vote for Romney?"), I think this article might hold part of the answer.

Letters: Conventional Wisdom and Rejection of GOP 'Top-Down' Structure

Ron Paul supporters are an eclectic bunch of individualists who are motivated more by principle than by leadership, even Ron Paul's. I think that is one reason why Ron Paul did not bother to endorse anyone running for president this year. He knew they wouldn't have listened to him anyway.
(By the way, that fact alone should debunk the myth that Ron Paul supporters are in any way a "cult". Whoever heard of a cult where the "exalted leader" can't even order his "followers" to do something as simple as vote for a certain candidate? Think about it.)

Assuming that we can't get Mitt to denounce the disgusting new RNC rules, the next best thing would be to have the grassroots Republicans show some backbone and do it for him.
I know this might seem like a petty issue to many in the GOP. Many of you think the world is going to come to an end if Obama is re-elected. Obviously swing voters are NOT going to share that viewpoint. While many Democrats and Independents are disappointed by Obama's failure to distinguish himself from George Bush on civil rights and foreign wars; the RP Republicans and liberty-leaning Independents are just as disappointed in Romney for his failure to distinguish himself from Obama.

As much as they loathe the prospect of FOUR more years of Obama, they are just as fearful of EIGHT more years of a Bush-style presidency (continual expansion of the "imperial" executive branch, endless foreign wars justified by "American Exceptionalism", skyrocketing national debt caused by blank checks written to the Industrial-Military-Wall Street complex, more liberal social engineering like "No Child Left Behind" or encouraging banks to make bad mortgages to minorities, more erosion of our constitutional rights in the name of "national security",more nation-building and policing the world in the name of U.N. resolutions, more budget-busting, socialism like the Medicaid Part D Prescription program and the TARP bailouts).

Why?
Because the only thing worse than a president like Obama is a president like Obama with an "(R)" behind his name.
Because when a president has an "(R)" behind his name, all of our defenses go down.
Because the Limbaughs and Hannitys and O'Reillys all stop becoming critics and start becoming cheerleaders.
Because no matter how badly the president behaves in office, no matter how many conservative principles he betrays, no matter how many campaign promises he forgets, no matter how many GOP platform planks he ignores; he is STILL the "leader of the GOP", and we fall in rank behind him.

So how can you convince a Ron Paul Republican to vote for Romney?

Convince him that you aren't going to let the Republican Party continue to be a rubber stamp for the elite political insiders.

Convince him that you aren't going to roll over and play dead in four years if Romney behaves like a Republican In Name Only.

Convince him that the good Republicans are fed up with having our most important decisions made in smoke-filled rooms by a handful of party bosses and confirmed by a pep rally (scripted on a teleprompter) disguised as a political convention.

Convince him that Republicans are ready to take control of their own party, instead of following their leaders like sheep to the slaughter.

You might want to start by convincing him that the REPUBLICAN PARTY is not a cult; that we have minds and principles of our own.

I'm curious, was there ever a response to this open letter from your intended? Before or after the actual election?

Hats off to you -

You're the same one who wrote "Why I am Endorsing Mitt Romney for President (and not Ron Paul)"

That was FANTASTIC!!!

Love what you write! Keep it up!

Perfect Response

Great answer!

Whenever someone tries something on you and you don't

know what to do, do the same thing back to them. In this case quote her exactly and say, "and what can I do as an individual to get you to vote for Ron Paul" or for "Gary Johnson' or whomever......the case may be and then SHUT UP. Ball's in her court.

Excellent Update.

The only thing that would get me to vote for Willard (and it is too late for that,) is for him to actually read, comprehend, and support the US Constitution. Sadly, he may have read it, seems like he has smarts so I am sure he comprehends it, but his positions point out to me that he does not support it.

How can I honestly bring myself to vote for someone who doesn't support and defend the constitution just because the "other guy" subverts the constitution? In the end, we will still be stuck with somebody in the oval office who subverts the constitution.

I don't really care what party one comes from, in fact it should be unlawful to give people the opportunity to put a party next to their name on the ballot. If they support the constitution which would be told through their policies, then they will get my vote, otherwise they can get lost.

In the end, it's about what's best for the COUNTRY not the PARTY. That is what these party "leaders" do not understand. I am beginning to believe that they do not care who's POTUS, just as long as he/she is originates and belongs to their party so they can have their power trips/special perks/bribes/or what have you.

Ask HER to explain why you WON'T support Romney or Obama

If she can, you'll think about it.

Ask her to make the case for liberty and sound money. Ask her to explain what happens when you let a bank print debt notes from nothing, call it money, and loan it around to their corporate friends.

When she can't do it, tell her THAT'S why Romney doesn't get my vote and she serves man who serves an agenda she doesn't even understand.

Liberty is Romney's enemy and his supporters have made that VERY clear.

You need to change Romney's

You need to change Romney's position he's running for to dog catcher.

And I'm not sure I'll vote for him then, but I'll reconsider.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

The base is already giving them a free pass now!

Even before holding the office! Romney invented Obamacare, aw but it's okay, he's the nominee! No big deal. Paul Ryan was begging congress to pass TARP? Oh don't attack him for that, he didn't know, he's better now...he's got a plan to balance the budget.

Honestly, Obama may be more liberal in a second term, but at least the conservative base that is concerned with big government will be on their toes and watching him. It would be a net positive.

Your updated response is ...

... outstanding!

Rmoney is not

running to serve the American people. Rmoney is auditioning to become Israel's bitch. I will vote for GJ and take my chances with obummer.

Like your update.

Seems to me that would convince a few. Not sure it would convince me though. I loathe flipfloppers and nothing they can say or do, will stop Romney from being a flipflopper.

I agree...

... completely. What she wants is impossible, but this was the best I could do for her.

Excellent Response

I think you summed it up, perfectly. Of course, it's a tall order, and I don't think she can succeed.

I know that all those reasons are why I have never joined either dominant party; I am happy to work within the LP, even though we "can't win." It is a satisfaction that I am not participating in perpetuating that corrupt system.

I respect those who have the stomach for working within the dominant parties, as Ron Paul does, but I hate politics too much to have to deal with it internally as well as in public. Yes, there is internal politics in the LP, but cheating isn't tolerated, and neither are personal attacks and lies.

One of the dominant parties is likely to implode in time, and to be taken over either from within (as in states where the RP people elected party officers) or replaced from without (as the LP works to do).

We should be ready on both fronts.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

ROBAMNEY 2012 - A NEW Y(d)AWN

Sorry if this is coming across as shameless commerce.

I am still downright angry at how Dr. Paul was treated by the GOP. I designed this partly to vent my anger out.

What happens in tonight's debate won't make a difference, given how the Commission on Presidential Debates will keep other views and voices out. Still millions of people will be tuning in.

Sorry mam

the crimes have been the committed and the consequence of a loss will follow and Obama sucks but its not the end of the world if he gets a 2nd term, there is more than one way to get a bad man out just research what happened in Iceland. If enough Americans can't stand it revolution will happen and things will change.

The simple answer is

You can't
How could I trust that man? Why do you trust him?

Better Late than Never

It seems I am too late with a response.

A day or so ago Antiwar had a great writeup about this:

http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2012/09/30/race-for-the-w...

Just something to think about.

Interesting article....

With Romney confirming my early prediction that the Republicans are deliberately throwing the election, the neocons are on their way to completely discrediting themselves politically. With that accomplished, Republican politicians such as Rand Paul, Justin Amash, and others coming up in the ranks, who question the war-all-the-time “foreign policy” dogma that has dominated the GOP since the cold war era, will have much more space to advance their previously heretical views. In the context of the past decade, the first order of business for any pro-peace political movement must be the utter destruction of the neocons’ political machine, which means ending their influence in the Republican party. With Romney defeated — in a landslide, I predict — the way will be opened to the further growth and development of the Paulian movement.

Of course this is the kind of reasoning that would be totally lost on the rank and file GOP. And the lady in question would absolutely swoon at the suggestion that we should seek to free our foreign policy from the control of the Israeli lobbyists.

On Point

Thank you for the stomach and stamina to hold the fort and wage battle in the conventional trenches.
Hearts and minds are pierced in such hand to hand.

Great Update Letter, it

Great Update Letter, it hopefully helps them wake up. At some point these republican folks will be viewed as mis-informed or flat our criminal.

Ron Paul 2016

All is fair in love and war. Political Contests are war.

If Romney wanted to win he had to unfortunately trip up Ron Paul. Romney is for sure an American , born in the good ole USA. Romney gave his inheritance to charity, became wealthy by using his God given brains, created tens of thousands of jobs, is independently wealthy and does not need the bribes of special interest groups, is in the same marriage for 42 years, with 5 married sons (no divorces) and 18 grand children, does not use alcohol in any form, does not smoke, is the most moral man to run for the Presidency in over half a century. (Other than the political lies and maneuvering)

Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/greed-and-debt-the...

I care less that he made millions but how he did it was by leeching off the system that uses debt creation as a tool for economic servitude. Bain Capital caused companies to declare bankruptcy when they could no longer afford the fees and service the huge debt Romney et al structured for Bain’s benefit. The ‘job creator’ accolade is a flimsy version of the truth of jobs being outsourced to India and China; and when companies went bankrupt, many jobs were lost and employees disenfranchised. Bain benefited from the very government subsidies Mitt assails and decries which is supremely hypocritical. This emasculation of free market principles espoused by a Republican who parades himself as a conservative, but is really a big government statist, will do more harm than good for Republicans going forward at a time when a true fiscal hawk is needed to get our financial house in order. Mitt’s moral bona fides are moot to me in view of the fact he misrepresents who he is and the principles he stands for

Romney and Ryan are terrible human beings

Romey and Ryan are serial liars and are advocating the destruction of everything this country was built on.

They are horrible people and an embarrassment to this country.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Essentially true, except....

His sins are far more serious than just "political lies and maneuvering".

Romney DID need to defeat Ron Paul if he wanted to become the nominee.
BUT...
He did NOT need to continue to contest every delegate sympathetic to Ron Paul (even the ones pledged to Romney!) long after he had the nomination sewed up.

He did NOT need to exclude any mention of Ron Paul' name from the stage at the RNC.

He did NOT need to insist that the RNC break their own rules by ignoring the nominating papers submitted for Ron Paul by six delegations.

He did NOT need to let John Sununu and Ben Ginsberg railroad the convention into adopting the most anti-republican, anti-grassroots rules changes in the history of the Republican Party.

And perhaps most significantly, he still does NOT need to condone (through his silence) ALL OF THE ABOVE.

As to his character, actions speak louder than words.

And sometimes, so does silence.

Romney is a smart, moral and upstanding man

who does NOT seem to share my political philosophy (judging from his record). I consider all these factors when voting, and the political philosophy part is weighted most heavily. I do not feel Romney is a bad person; I simply feel he would not be any better as a president than the one we have now. In addition to that, a vote for Romeny would be a reward the Republican party for some very bad behavior, and as Mom, I know very well that rewarding any behavior leads to more of it.
I certainly will be supporting Republicans in many other state and local races. The party shenanigans that have been aimed at getting Romney the nomination do not affect my opinion of all Republican candidates.

I understand how you feel...

As a fellow Mormon I have especially wanted to believe that he is at least a decent man.
Only God can truly judge a man's heart.
But I can not excuse his behavior in this election unless (literally) he is playing some kind of double agent role with a Conspiracy that he believes is too powerful to oppose overtly.

If he is, then I am afraid he is in over his head. It appears that they have him groomed for failure.

Other than that, I cannot see how he can be both smart and moral.
Either he is ignorant of the things that have been done in his name, has been convinced that they were necessary, or he is as amoral as his staff.

SMART? Moral? UPSTANDING?

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. If Romney is smart comparted to you, it dont speak well of your smarts.

Moral come on he is a corporate destroyer, moral not even close.

Upstanding, by whose standards he is worse than most crominalsin prison.

NO NO NO is my final answer.

sovereign

He had family working for the Ron Paul campaign in Idaho

They actually know him, and they do not think he is smart, moral, or upstanding. They are so worried about that power-hungry ghoul becoming president they campaigned against him.
I think the only reason he even appears moral is because we h ave had a line of sex addicts in the White House for generations. Romney has no mistresses coming out of the woodwork - because power is what gives him the big "O." So if liking power more than sex makes equates to moral, he's a saint.

Maybe

You should have told her to visit Daily Paul often if she wants to learn how to sway us. By doing so she probably would have come around!

skippy

I think she may have been here already.

At another county's meeting last month, a lady started into a rant about how we Ron Paul Republicans were all moles working to defeat EVERY (?!?) Republican candidate.
When I called her on this BS she said that she could "prove" it, "because I've been on your websites and I've read the things you people write".
"You want all the Republicans to lose so the party will collapse and you can take over."

Obviously I pointed out the sampling error in her method for determining "our" opinions and strategies, but I think I lost her at "On the Internet...".
