"What can I do to get you to vote for Romney?" *Updated*

So at our county central committee last night I was commenting about how the Romney campaign had shot themselves in the foot by the way they treated the RP Republicans.

Later a lady came up to me and told me how desperate she was to get our votes for Romney. "I don't think our country can survive another four years of Obama as president!"

I told her that she was asking a lot of RP Republicans to expect them to turn around and support someone whose campaign had virtually spit in their faces in Tampa and subsequently seemed content to treat us like we didn't exist.

"But what can I do, as an INDIVIDUAL, to win their votes?", she asked.

That had me stumped. I know there were a lot of things I could have said.

I could have told her that she should have been listening to the RP Republicans last January when we were telling her that Ron Paul was the only candidate that could beat Obama.

I could have told her a lot of similar "I told you so's".

But to really answer her question, I was stumped.
I told her I would get back to her.

What should I tell the lady?

Tell her to write to Romney and ask him to start chanting "End the Fed!" at his next rally? Tell him to renounce the new anti-grassroots RNC rules? Tell him to announce that he is no longer going to play ball with the Bilderbergers/CFR/military-industrial-Wall Street complex?

Tell her to forget about it and worry about getting our congressman elected?

I know there is no perfect answer to a question like this. The question itself shows that she doesn't understand the nature of our political situation.

So what should I tell her? What should my message from the RP community be?

============================= UPDATE ============================

Thank you for all of your sincere (and sometimes amusing) comments.
I am sorry I have not had time to read or comment on all of them individually.

Here is my lame but sincere attempt to try to help her (and some of my other committee members)to see the situation through our eyes and maybe get her to help us move the GOP in a positive direction.

"Dear Central Committee Member,

In answer to a question I received at our meeting Monday night (i.e. "What could I do as an individual to persuade Ron Paul Republicans to vote for Romney?"), I think this article might hold part of the answer.

Letters: Conventional Wisdom and Rejection of GOP 'Top-Down' Structure

Ron Paul supporters are an eclectic bunch of individualists who are motivated more by principle than by leadership, even Ron Paul's. I think that is one reason why Ron Paul did not bother to endorse anyone running for president this year. He knew they wouldn't have listened to him anyway.
(By the way, that fact alone should debunk the myth that Ron Paul supporters are in any way a "cult". Whoever heard of a cult where the "exalted leader" can't even order his "followers" to do something as simple as vote for a certain candidate? Think about it.)

Assuming that we can't get Mitt to denounce the disgusting new RNC rules, the next best thing would be to have the grassroots Republicans show some backbone and do it for him.
I know this might seem like a petty issue to many in the GOP. Many of you think the world is going to come to an end if Obama is re-elected. Obviously swing voters are NOT going to share that viewpoint. While many Democrats and Independents are disappointed by Obama's failure to distinguish himself from George Bush on civil rights and foreign wars; the RP Republicans and liberty-leaning Independents are just as disappointed in Romney for his failure to distinguish himself from Obama.

As much as they loathe the prospect of FOUR more years of Obama, they are just as fearful of EIGHT more years of a Bush-style presidency (continual expansion of the "imperial" executive branch, endless foreign wars justified by "American Exceptionalism", skyrocketing national debt caused by blank checks written to the Industrial-Military-Wall Street complex, more liberal social engineering like "No Child Left Behind" or encouraging banks to make bad mortgages to minorities, more erosion of our constitutional rights in the name of "national security",more nation-building and policing the world in the name of U.N. resolutions, more budget-busting, socialism like the Medicaid Part D Prescription program and the TARP bailouts).

Why?
Because the only thing worse than a president like Obama is a president like Obama with an "(R)" behind his name.
Because when a president has an "(R)" behind his name, all of our defenses go down.
Because the Limbaughs and Hannitys and O'Reillys all stop becoming critics and start becoming cheerleaders.
Because no matter how badly the president behaves in office, no matter how many conservative principles he betrays, no matter how many campaign promises he forgets, no matter how many GOP platform planks he ignores; he is STILL the "leader of the GOP", and we fall in rank behind him.

So how can you convince a Ron Paul Republican to vote for Romney?

Convince him that you aren't going to let the Republican Party continue to be a rubber stamp for the elite political insiders.

Convince him that you aren't going to roll over and play dead in four years if Romney behaves like a Republican In Name Only.

Convince him that the good Republicans are fed up with having our most important decisions made in smoke-filled rooms by a handful of party bosses and confirmed by a pep rally (scripted on a teleprompter) disguised as a political convention.

Convince him that Republicans are ready to take control of their own party, instead of following their leaders like sheep to the slaughter.

You might want to start by convincing him that the REPUBLICAN PARTY is not a cult; that we have minds and principles of our own.

Cheerfully engage in ideas

Just an idea, but sort of politely blow off the 'voting' conversation and the talk about which guy is better.

Something like "well, I'll do some more thinking about my vote, but what do you think of the Federal Reserve/The Wars/cronyism, etc. (whichever it is), because that is really important to me and I find it fascinating."

This is totally just my opinion, but I'm growing a little bored with the whole voting conversation. This woman has some appetite for politics if she is going to work so hard for Romney, she must want to talk about ideas a little bit.

Currently consuming: Gatto: "Underground history of education..", FDR; Wii U; NEP Football

It seems...

as if some people on here are missing the point. If you want to change someone's mind or move them over to your position you can't be a dick about.

Just engage them and kindly explain why you cannot vote for him and then ask them a return question as to why they wouldn't vote for a liberty candidate.

Don't be rude just be honest. You'll catch more "flies" that way.

In the spirit of Ron Paul tell her NO.

In the spirit of Ron Paul tell her NO.

What can I do to get you into one of these shiny new Government Motors 2012 Rombot GTs?

gold = money
war = health of the state
liberty = prosperity

Only 4 years

If Mitt Romney contractually agrees, in an unbreakable completely binding contract where there is no way out of it, to only server 4 years. Then I may consider it.

Otherwise, why vote for 8 years of Obama's policies?

Romney can only step down,

Romney can only step down, and give Ron Paul the nomination or we will have another 4 years of Obama. Is that what you Romney republicans want, so be it.

I will NEVER VOTE for a TERRORIST, Murdering war criminal, ( Obama ) or the FRAUD, ( Romney ) or any other moron that does NOT SUPPORT THE CONSTITUTION.

Congrats to Obama on his 2012 Presidential election...

And congrats are also included to the AMERICAN NEWS MEDIA, you WON the Charles Manson achievement award.

bahaha

It's very simple tell her what u just told us!

I had a very nice woman ask the same question at our country caucus in May.

"You will never vote for Romney, will you"?

My answer was simple; "Romney is no different than Obama, he created Obama Care in Massachusetts, he's for more war, more spending, bigger government, and his "Bain Capital" get rich schemes will be used against him, by the Obama machine if he wins the nomination.

In these hard times He's unelectable".

The Winds of Change!

Nothing

"Nothing.

Because I learned one thing in the primaries. Many Republicans voted for Romney solely because 'He could win'. No matter what I did to convince them to vote for smaller government they could not get passed 'Romney can win'. Those are the same people who nominated McCain.

To me, the most important objective is to convince those people they are wrong.

So, basically,

"Romney can't win. Tell me how Romney can win."

"Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." -- Thomas Paine

Tell her

very simply Romney has lost our vote. Period. If you're that afraid of Obama and want him out, write in Ron Paul, or vote for Gary Johnson because in all honesty the RNC has lost us until we come back and take over. But for the general presidential election they have completely lost our vote and most of the tea partiers vote too. I personally would tell her to gather a large crowd and publicly lynch Romney and Reibus, then we will help them.

sincerely,
Mike G.

Easy:

"You want my vote for Romney? Then all you have to do is listen to me talk to you about our foreign/economic/domestic policy. At the end, you don't have to agree with me, but if you really make an effort to see things from my side and to understand WHY I believe what I do, I will vote for Romney."

Who wins is irrelevant, and if you can get one new person to listen by giving them something that they want that costs you nothing, go for it.

I'd support anyone voting for Romney if they are doing so because the above worked... :)

To those whose suggestions amount mostly to NOT ENGAGING

this woman-please explain how that will advance the cause of LIBERTY?

We have struggled for many years to at least get the ears of these people; why would we pass up any opportunity, particularly when one of them is reaching out to one of us?

When I read how many express views like: Eff'em and similar suggestions that amount to Eff'em I realize why we have not been more successful.

Sadly, we are largely our own worst enemy. Overall, we are composed of mindsets no different than the ones we decry, except "OURS" w/ the same mindset have been coded w/ an alternate program.

Please explain how one becomes what seems to be a willing saboteur of what you claim to want? Do you derive joy from punishing those whose only failing is to have not been properly exposed to the information you have acquired? Is it human nature to need "Others" to hate? I thought this was a Revolution of LOVE?

I can only speak for myself but ..

I did assume that whoever this person is - the Romney supporter - has already been approached with the facts:

- Our money is worthless paper, learn about the Fed. Printing money will lead to a currency collapse and hyperinflation.

- These wars are not making us safer, they are endless and corrupt

- The US is a Republic, not a democracy and the Rule of Law is perverted

- The US is now a global Corporate Empire, and both of the mainstream candidates support that

- There is not essential difference between them.

IF she doesn't already know any of this, by all means I would say "give it your best shot"

But the OP phrased her post in a way that suggests "this person knows all of that and still supports Romney. NOW what do I say when she asks me to vote for him?

In which case the individual in question is probably too dense and far gone to get it.

They *actively* SUPPORT Romney, and try and sell people on him.

Really?? That in itself shows they have a head full of rocks.

This is where my attitude about it is coming from. Cant speak for anyone else

We should be

discriminating, to a degree, about whom we spend our limited time with to get them up speed because we have limited time.

However, I also believe we should never write off any "regular citizen". People have different abilities to assimilate info and have different needs as to what techniques work for them personally to learn what is important for them to learn. Many children have difficulty with basic mathematics but that is no reason to write them off.

Please do a test Von; note how many times you read comments from DPers along the lines that "these people are a lost cause, unreachable". What odds do you think someone with that attitude going in can successfully reach someone that has yet to grasp the dire situation they must grasp. How would you like to have a teacher that strongly and repeatedly expresses the view that YOU cannot learn what that teacher is supposed to be teaching you.

We are ALL victims of the evil, the knowing victims-us and the ignorant victims-them.

I understand

And in reality, I am not - or at least, do my best not to be - so impatient with people that I don't try a variety of ways to get them to see what's going on.

In all honesty I am surprised lately how many people DO have some idea of what's going on ... they DO respond with something of substance when I bring up the topics (in one way or another) that we address on here every day on this forum.

However there is a certain variety of modern day "conservative" (emphasize quotes) - that are so brainwashed, so gullible, and so ill informed its like talking to a wall.

Anyone at this point - if they are actively supporting Romney and trying to get others to back him? By default they fall into that category.

There is no way to reach the majority of those people at this point, in my opinion. Or - at the very least - I'm definitely not the guy to do it.

There is nothing she or

There is nothing she or Romney can do to get our vote... Even if tomorrow Romney announced he would "END THE FED" we would still be unchanged, because we know it's a bunch of hog wash to win over our vote. There is truely nothging they can do to win over my vote... At the end of the day, Romeny is still a liar. Our biggest objective, as of now, is to send a message.

The question is so absurd on the face of it ..

.. that if I didn't know better, I would assume you were being sarcastic (or at the very least rhetorical) and were begging for smart-ass joke answers.

Because anybody who really understands even 75% of what Ron Paul has been saying - and / or had been paying attention to what happened to him (and us) during the primaries ... will NEVER vote for Romney or anyone remotely like him.

There is absolutely zero chance of that.

But you are not being sarcastic or rhetorical. I get that.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. Because the only honest answer is:

"Nothing. You had your chance to restore this country to a Republic and save it from destruction. And you blew it."

Amen

There is nothing Romney or the GOP can do to sway me to vote for him. The best thing for Romney to do is to step down as the GOP nominee, endorse Ron Paul and let the National GOP give the republican nomination to Ron Paul. Ron Paul is the only man that can beat President Obama this 2012 election. Romney has very minimal chance defeating Obama in the upcoming Presidential debates.

Romney has lost the trust and respect of many grass root supporters within our own GOP. Romney has no chance of winning a fair and honest election. If he succeeds in winning the Presidential election it will be by means of voter fraud and/or manipulation of voting machines. We’ve seen what happened at our own state GOP caucuses and primaries in this country and at our GOP convention in Tampa.

Romney can’t win this Presidential race fairly or honestly without our support. Shame on Romney and his campaign and the Republican National GOP for alienating Ron Paul and his delegates in Tampa. Blowback!

That is it Von-They had their chance, they blew it, now take

your medicine-game over?

Do we not also have to swallow the same bitter pills as they?

We will teach them a lesson by giving up and helping to usher in a nightmare that we will not escape?

I do not understand that type of logic.

"You are a den of vipers and thieves."

No, not bitter

Merely stating a fact:

"You were not educated enough about the Constitution and Bill of Rights to understand the one person (Dr Paul) who actually stood for them

You were too arrogant to listen to the people who were trying to educate you about things you did not want to hear

You were too gullible to jump on the bandwagon of a man who has no principles, no integrity, and no record of standing for the ideals you say you believe in and are fighting for.

You are now supporting and campaigning for a man that cannot be trusted for anything other than the fact that he will be almost identical the the man you are trying to defeat, in every single way that is destroying your freedoms, your prosperity, your peace and your country

We tried to warn you. And now you want me to do ... what??"

That's not bitter.

Disgusted sure. But I will talk to those that have the ears and sense to listen and engage me.

Not those that are so dense, that none of what I said will make a damn difference. People that are bubbleheaded parrots, that squack out lines heard on TV ... from Hannity ... or Savage ... or Rush .. or Beck ..?

C'mon.

What I meant by the "bitter" pill comment is that our nation

will not crash in compartments. There will not be a "safe" compartment for those that saw what was coming and tried to warn others. If the nation goes down all of us will be swallowing very bitter tasting pills.

The bottom line is to save ourselves we must get more to understand the danger we all face-and it ain't from terrist boogeymen. We must get more of them to understand no matter how obstinate or difficult they are to reach. Sucks but do it for your own sake if not for theirs because it is for your sake and those you do care about.

Revolutions are never picnics, this one included.

Romney should man-up, defer the nomination to RP, offer his endorsement and then just go away.

This would be the only

This would be the only scenario where I would respect Romneny.

I recently met a woman, thought we might get to be friends, we have a lot in common - an interest in aquaponics among other things. Last night she lit into my husband for having a "Ron Paul" T-shirt on, and apparently made it clear that if we don't vote for Romney she does not want to be friends. At least I found out before I got attached to her friendship, but it is pretty dismaying. The media has turned this nation into a left-right hate fest, but both sides can sure agree that we need to go kill brown people, it is the Christian thing to do.
That was her second line of query - we DO understand that we need to be at war, right?
I am glad I was not there, it would have gotten ugly. I do not play nice with warmongers anymore.
Nor do I have much use for those who think you can be a champion for liberty without being a champion for truth and justice. It is a tri-fecta, takes all three to get any one of them.
