"What can I do to get you to vote for Romney?" *Updated*

So at our county central committee last night I was commenting about how the Romney campaign had shot themselves in the foot by the way they treated the RP Republicans.

Later a lady came up to me and told me how desperate she was to get our votes for Romney. "I don't think our country can survive another four years of Obama as president!"

I told her that she was asking a lot of RP Republicans to expect them to turn around and support someone whose campaign had virtually spit in their faces in Tampa and subsequently seemed content to treat us like we didn't exist.

"But what can I do, as an INDIVIDUAL, to win their votes?", she asked.

That had me stumped. I know there were a lot of things I could have said.

I could have told her that she should have been listening to the RP Republicans last January when we were telling her that Ron Paul was the only candidate that could beat Obama.

I could have told her a lot of similar "I told you so's".

But to really answer her question, I was stumped.
I told her I would get back to her.

What should I tell the lady?

Tell her to write to Romney and ask him to start chanting "End the Fed!" at his next rally? Tell him to renounce the new anti-grassroots RNC rules? Tell him to announce that he is no longer going to play ball with the Bilderbergers/CFR/military-industrial-Wall Street complex?

Tell her to forget about it and worry about getting our congressman elected?

I know there is no perfect answer to a question like this. The question itself shows that she doesn't understand the nature of our political situation.

So what should I tell her? What should my message from the RP community be?

============================= UPDATE ============================

Thank you for all of your sincere (and sometimes amusing) comments.
I am sorry I have not had time to read or comment on all of them individually.

Here is my lame but sincere attempt to try to help her (and some of my other committee members)to see the situation through our eyes and maybe get her to help us move the GOP in a positive direction.

"Dear Central Committee Member,

In answer to a question I received at our meeting Monday night (i.e. "What could I do as an individual to persuade Ron Paul Republicans to vote for Romney?"), I think this article might hold part of the answer.

Letters: Conventional Wisdom and Rejection of GOP 'Top-Down' Structure

Ron Paul supporters are an eclectic bunch of individualists who are motivated more by principle than by leadership, even Ron Paul's. I think that is one reason why Ron Paul did not bother to endorse anyone running for president this year. He knew they wouldn't have listened to him anyway.
(By the way, that fact alone should debunk the myth that Ron Paul supporters are in any way a "cult". Whoever heard of a cult where the "exalted leader" can't even order his "followers" to do something as simple as vote for a certain candidate? Think about it.)

Assuming that we can't get Mitt to denounce the disgusting new RNC rules, the next best thing would be to have the grassroots Republicans show some backbone and do it for him.
I know this might seem like a petty issue to many in the GOP. Many of you think the world is going to come to an end if Obama is re-elected. Obviously swing voters are NOT going to share that viewpoint. While many Democrats and Independents are disappointed by Obama's failure to distinguish himself from George Bush on civil rights and foreign wars; the RP Republicans and liberty-leaning Independents are just as disappointed in Romney for his failure to distinguish himself from Obama.

As much as they loathe the prospect of FOUR more years of Obama, they are just as fearful of EIGHT more years of a Bush-style presidency (continual expansion of the "imperial" executive branch, endless foreign wars justified by "American Exceptionalism", skyrocketing national debt caused by blank checks written to the Industrial-Military-Wall Street complex, more liberal social engineering like "No Child Left Behind" or encouraging banks to make bad mortgages to minorities, more erosion of our constitutional rights in the name of "national security",more nation-building and policing the world in the name of U.N. resolutions, more budget-busting, socialism like the Medicaid Part D Prescription program and the TARP bailouts).

Because the only thing worse than a president like Obama is a president like Obama with an "(R)" behind his name.
Because when a president has an "(R)" behind his name, all of our defenses go down.
Because the Limbaughs and Hannitys and O'Reillys all stop becoming critics and start becoming cheerleaders.
Because no matter how badly the president behaves in office, no matter how many conservative principles he betrays, no matter how many campaign promises he forgets, no matter how many GOP platform planks he ignores; he is STILL the "leader of the GOP", and we fall in rank behind him.

So how can you convince a Ron Paul Republican to vote for Romney?

Convince him that you aren't going to let the Republican Party continue to be a rubber stamp for the elite political insiders.

Convince him that you aren't going to roll over and play dead in four years if Romney behaves like a Republican In Name Only.

Convince him that the good Republicans are fed up with having our most important decisions made in smoke-filled rooms by a handful of party bosses and confirmed by a pep rally (scripted on a teleprompter) disguised as a political convention.

Convince him that Republicans are ready to take control of their own party, instead of following their leaders like sheep to the slaughter.

You might want to start by convincing him that the REPUBLICAN PARTY is not a cult; that we have minds and principles of our own.

3 approaches to the question.

is she really concerned about an obama re-election? then the easiest thing to do is convert the entire gop and some of the democrats to vote for johnson.

But she really want the (R) with the name! the she had to make Romney pledge that è is going to hugely cut the gov budget, to stop the fed printing money (by reforms or whatever is useful to the cause), and to don't go to war without a declaration of war and cancel the new grassroot killing rules of the rnc. That seems fair enough.

third option, she knows something we don't know, so let explain in details why is obama destroyng the country in just four years and why romney is different (after that, verbally demolish her).

I like it

This is about the only way I may be willing to vote for Mitt Romney. If everyone decides to switch their vote to Gary Johnson and he has an overwhelming enough lead, I may be convinced to vote for Romney out of pity, and as to not inflate Gov. Johnson's ego too much.

I voted for the Democrat in my Congressional election last time just because I knew the Republican would win by such a huge margin. This is about the only scenario I would vote in such a way.

what will Obama do that Romney will not?

Currency collapse, hyperinflation, WW3, default on the national debt, etc...

There is no answer. All i can think of is that it would have been nice to have this conversation about 8 months ago before you caused our country to die.

Do you know the Republican narrative?

Basically, it's: "Obama is a foreign-born muslim infiltrator. He wants to put us all under Sharia Law and destroy Christianity and install full-blown socialism, and take away all of our rights. He's planning on writing an executive order nominating himself as President for Life once the economy gets bad enough, and rule over us all like a dictator." So she'll probably say something along these lines.

Basically, they're believing a bad B-movie narrative, similar to the old "Iraq has WMD!" and today's "Iran is ruled by religious crazies who will sooner commit suicide by nuking Israel than tolerate Israel's existence!" And they have their own set of evidence, real and otherwise, to support these narratives.

Sure, they may believe that the dollar is crashing and WW3 is on its way and the US is plunging into a police state, but these take a back seat to these horrors, with the assumption that with Romney at the helm, we'd be able to handle the dollar crashing and WW3 and the police state better, and won't deal with Sharia Law at all, and will be able to vote again in 4 years.

"Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." -- Thomas Paine

i guess im going for socratic style

I could say all of those same things about Romney. Replace muslim with mormon and sharia with martial. Both support bailouts, printing money, government healthcare, both are opposed to posse comitatus and due process.

She needs to understand where we are coming from so she is not bitter when she realizes that its too late.

The only way that I

The only way that I would cast a vote for Mitt Romney is if she were able to go down to Klute, Texas and convince Ron Paul to legally change his name to Mitt Romney.

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but an irate tireless few keen on setting the brushfire of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

The answer is nothing

I haven't decided who I am going to vote for. It certainly won't be Romney or Obama. I may vote for Johnson, but I will need to read what the others on our state ballot stand for and then decide. Another thing I am sick of is people always mailing or emailing me asking for money. I am about to the point where I will get out of these organizations that seem to only care about taking my money and never accomplish anything. They always push 1 or 2 issues and then instead of being active, they just want a donation. I swear if I gave all these people money I would be bankrupt. They can all go fly a kite.

Tell her:

Romney holds the key to own jail cell. Tell her she can't do it, it's up to Mittens. Romney needs to admit he overplayed his hand.

He has to do something for us other than securing a Rand endorsement.

His whole theory was that he could "win" with out the RPrs, some of us want to really test his thesis.

Romney not only overplayed his hand, he is now stuck with it. I've seen a lot of suggestions here that I like but even if Romney did start chanting "End the Fed" or "repeal the NDAA", I can't believe anyone here would buy it for a second. I think he's between a rock and a hard place and there is simply no place to go.

She would have a better chance of single handedly curing cancer

than convincing me, with her individual efforts, to vote for Romney.

There is only one person who could ever change my mind- Mitt Romney himself.

This could happen if Mitt Romney vowed to appoint Ron Paul as Chairman of the Federal Reserve and promised to fully cooperate with all commands issued by Ron Paul regarding monetary policy. He would of course have to make this vow in public, with his right hand on the Bible, his left hand on the Book of Mormon, and his head strapped to an electroencephalograph so that his brain waves could be closely monitored (to deter any attempts to lie).

If she can somehow make that happen, I will proudly vote for Mitt Romney.

Amend the constitution

Well I would only vote for Romney if the following happened:

1. Amend the Constitution: Removing the 16th Amendment
2. Amend the Constitution: Any law that conflicts with the constitution will be null and void.
3. Amend the Constitution: Stating Congress has sole power over the monetary system.
4. Amend the Constitution: Congressman and Senators has a term limit of 8 years and after there service they can no longer be in any government position.

I think that is about it for now.

Romney has to earn my vote

Romney has to earn my vote. As a Republican I am against entitlements and unions. The two party system is a political union.
Romney believes he is entitled to my vote, he has not even attempted to earn it. He wants me to shut up and get in line and pull the lever for him. If he wants my vote, he needs to get in line and do my bidding, not me his.

this woman and some friends of ours . . .

believe two things that many of *us* do not believe:

--each vote really counts

--Obama and Romney are different

Until people can be made to see the truth about those two things, there can be no change--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

We've had enough.

There is nothing she can do now. She had her chance to do something in the primary. We have had enough....and when she has had enough she will not only understand, she will be one of us.

I would answer with

a question. How are they different?

I would have to question the premise

I do not believe Romney wants to win, I do believe he and the GOP would like a close election. The money generated with a close election feeds the GOP and the MSM, however the possibility if a win is not in the long term interests of the GOP. If the near term predictions of Ron Paul and others pan out, the last thing the GOP needs is to take responsibility for the coming financial collapse. The GOP is hoping to gain seats in the mid terms and is looking foward to 2016

Tell her, that you don't have

Tell her, that you don't have an answer but a question for her.

Then ask her, how will Romney be different? If she can intelligently answer that question, then you can slam her your rebuttal. But if she fails to answer intelligently, then just walk away....

I personally believe it's a race issue with a lot of these folks but they are too stupid to see it. They want to believe Romney is different because he wears an R on his chest, but the reality is it's deeper than that.

Obama and Romney are almost exactly the same, the only difference is that I think Romney has the warmongers lurking in the background whereas Obama is less warm to them. Other than that, they both want to turn America into a prison country!

I hope spacehabits does not follow your recommendation

Then she would see that we have a bumper crop of ignorant, knee jerks in a proportion similar to the current "mainline" Rs.

I mean to rout you out!

Brainwashing at its best:

I don't think our country can survive another four years of Obama as president!

I would have to walk away shaking my head...maybe laughing to myself...

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
Ron Paul - The Revolution

Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms. Ron Paul

They say we won't survive 4 more years of Obama....

I love it when these neocons try to hold our future hostage.

But "America" the Country and America the concept based on liberty are two entirely different things.

The idea of "America" or as we like to write it "AmeriKa", collapsing is a darned good thing.

And those who supported Romney helped it along. It's what they deserve.

This is why the entire RP movement needs to connect with each other, know your fellow RP'er (most of us actually do, thanks to the campaign) and be ready to help each other to survive, from food to being too armed to haul off into the night when both the left wants us dead and the "right" wants us dead too since they are already being brainwashed to blame us for Romney's loss.

As for the rest of them, they are the ones who cost themselves a country that was safe enough to be stupid in. Let them suffer the consequences.

Great line!

I would take her a copy of one of several reads...

A foreign policy of freedom, lies the government told you, crash proof, a Politically Incorrect Guide to American History, just to name a few and tell her if she reads one and sits to discuss with you at the next meeting (just to make sure she did read it) then you would consider voting for Romney.

Thats what I would do anyways, seems like the retirees have plenty of reading time on their hands, and if she is a well respected member of the community she might just change some minds herself.

Ask her...

Why she thinks Romney would be better or do anything different than what Obama is doing.

Tell her, Barry only has 4

Tell her, Barry only has 4 more years left. Mitt won't get his 8.

mitt is actually worse then obummer. mitt is working for nut-n-yahoo. Look at the list of mittwitt advisors who would make up his cabinet... Pearle, Zakheim, Boot, Bolten, etc...no way! At least obummer somewhat rejects nut-n-yahoo and his war mongering lemmings.

A vote for Romney is a vote for Barry. This woman still thinks the 2 parties are actually different!! LOL
"What can I do to get you to vote for Mitt?" My answer would be to have him step down and assign his candidacy to Ron Paul. Other than that, there's not a damn thing she could do...Just make sure to point out that whether it's Barry or Mittens, the REAL agenda continues, orchestrated by the "men behind the curtain".
