Gary Johnson Answers Tough Libertarian Questions

Yesterday afternoon, good friend of the site, The New American Media’s Brian Engelman, hosted a special edition of his “Agree to Disagree” program in order to interview Libertarian Presidential Candidate, Gary Johnson. Brian was kind enough to pass along some of my questions as well as one from fellow Lions of Liberty writer John Odermatt. I wanted to push Governor Johnson a bit on some core libertarian values.

My questions for Governor Johnson were as follows:

“Do you believe in the non-aggression principle?”

“Do you believe the government has the right to tax its citizens for merely living within it’s borders?”

“Do you believe you have a chance to win? If not, what is the purpose of your campaign?”

“Who is your favorite libertarian author?”

John also had a question on drug legalization:

“Your stance on legalizing Marijuana is well documented, but I’m curious to know the ideology that leads you to this result. Do you believe that an individual own their body and the government is overreaching by attempting to dictate what an individual ingests? Would you legalize all drugs?"

Advance the Liberty Movement!

Great interview!

I hope people realize that by supporting Gary Johnson, we're not turning our backs on Ron Paul. Ron Paul cured my political apathy back in 2007 and I've donated my time, energy, and money in ways I never expected - and I have not thought twice about it. Indeed, I've had some great fun along the way :)

Now, several years later, I find myself much more politically mature than I was before, and I have Ron Paul to thank for it. I want to cast my vote for the one candidate who stands the best chance to advance the Liberty Movement. In my opinion, Gary Johnson is that candidate.

Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof

Ill vote for him

Excellent interview, Id vote for him. I think his presentation is a bit more palatable for the electorate than Dr. Paul.

I'd like this answered:

Smacks Of Guilt By Association To Me

"Bipartisan: both parties acting in concert to put both of their hands in your pocket."-Rothbard

why not ask him the CFR

why not ask him the CFR question?

If he could get into debates

And if the system wasn't rigged, I think he'd have a real shot to come out of nowhere like Jesse Ventura did in Minnesota.

Unfortunately he won't be allowed to debate , and the system is rigged.

By far the best candidate.

I gotta say

I like Gary Johnson a lot more as a person after this interview. It is refreshing to hear someone answer questions honestly. He's no Ron Paul, but that can't be expected. Also, I love his story of building his own handy man business up from nothing. That's the American Dream. He's not the ideal libertarian and I will not donate to his campaing, but I am now considering voting form him, maybe.

The interview did help his image in my mind.
