CBS + DIGG partnership = Bad for Ron Paul

It looks like CBS (News.com) is working on a deal to acquire DIGG.com. In the meantime they are partnering to cross report election coverage and news.

I am a frequent DIGG user and I have noticed a change in the way RP items are being ranked. If you check out CBS's site

you will immediately see the bias against RP there. He is not listed in the poll they are reporting (perhaps he wasn't a choice given in the poll) and his photo is not listed among the GOP contenders but they have placed a link of his name among the lowest tiered candidates. Why are Rudy's and Fred's photos placed since they have less money, less votes in the last elections etc.?

Worst of all, CBS.com appears to be selectively aggregating DIGG content to their site. Anyone who uses DIGG knows that RP absolutely dominates their site - he is very popular with DIGG users. Yet RP stories are not showing up on CBS and I am suspicious that they are not ranked correctly on DIGG.

The irony to me is that in theory Digg is a democratic site, one user one vote and a lot of discussion. It looks like the MSM will intercept the balance of that democratic site just as they have our democratic Republic. I think this is important because this signals the way that the MSM can and will control content and sharing on the internet which is how many of us have come to rely on getting "real" news.

Maybe its time to start using DIGG's competition. Perhaps we need to politely and diplomatically contact CBS, DIGG and other outlets regarding this biased coverage and other negative ramifications of an MSM buyout of DIGG to make people aware that their internet sharing may be filtered in a biased manner.

There is no conspiracy to control the internets. The digg staff is not censoring Paul. If anyone, it's the democratic system full of DailyKos users and a handful of neocons that digg the stories down (sometimes it just needs to be done)

Anyone know of an open source product that would be similar to digg? Is there a sourceforge project out there?

Or do we go with reddit? Or something else?

Everyone sells out. Kevin Rose founded Digg, because he wanted a medium that was outside the traditional mainstream media bias. So, now he is going to sell digg to CBS?

Also, if you have looked at Rose's profile, he lists Barack Obama and Ron Paul as friends, so you think digg would be more sympathetic to Ron Paul supporters and more against the "bury brigades."

If DIGG truly starts to go down the wrong path.......

users will figure it out and stop using it. It is a Libertarian principal akin to voting with your feet. Once the bias starts to show, the site will drop in popularity and a new and better site will be created to fill the consumer demand created. I have no worries here - the market will prevail!
