Biden: 'Yes, We Do' Want to Raise Taxes By a Trillion Dollars (VIDEO)

Via the Weekly Standard - Vice President Joe Biden, speaking earlier today in Iowa said, "Yes, we do" want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars:

http://youtu.be/_yc2zBmOmNE

"On top of the trillions of dollars of spending that we have already cut, we’re gonna ask – yes – we’re gonna ask the wealthy to pay more," said Biden. "My heart breaks, come on man. You know the phrase they always use? Obama and Biden want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars. Guess what? Yes we do in one regard. We want to let that trillion dollar tax cut expire so the middle class doesn’t have to bear the burden of all that money going to the super wealthy. That’s not a tax raise, that’s called fairness where I come from."

Points

1) Biased argument concerning the 'rich/poor'

2) Taxation is unethically premised on anti-voluntary coercion and should be abolished

I would conversely support a prerogative model of governance where individuals endow public agency by free choice

Hey!

How about raising Joe Biden's taxes by one trillion dollars?!?!

This is exactly the premise the crowd has accepted.

The government does not ASK you to pay taxes. What absolute fools!

Why do such "Progressive" comments

not get labeled "wing nut" as do even reasonable comments from the Liberty movement -- ah, rhetorical question. Biden, leader of the metastasizing moron faction.

So-called "fairness" where Joe came from

Even in the crowd that he had standing in front of him, only the front half of the small audience Biden spoke to even bothered to clap and cheer his class warfare scree.

The rest just stood there; probably thinking that their union reps are only paying them enough to be there for the media's sake, but not enough to get caught applauding this kind of rhetoric on camera.

More taxes might make people consider the role of government

I'd hate to have them, but raising taxes may be the only thing that will wake people up.

Does anyone have a good escape country???

Not sure where to go but this is getting soooooooo old.

I guess all of us are the super rich. Anyone remember the line about "We will only raise taxes on those making 250,000 or more?"

Now we have to look forward to expiration of the lowest tax cuts estimated at 3000 for each family.

Somalia. No government, no

Somalia.

No government, no taxes!

That is a throw away liberal line I have seen before

Somalia has one of the most corrupt governments on Earth:

The Somalian government has horrible human rights abuses:

How about we have a government that follows the rule of law (i.e. the U.S. Constitution)? I want a government that enforces contracts and protects my freedom. It is an ignorant statement to say someone who wants a drastically smaller and law-abiding government would be supporting reversion to a corrupt political system like the one in Somalia.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

Well, it also isn't fair to

Well, it also isn't fair to say that people are only talking about reducing government. Plenty of people, many on this very site, are obsessed with the abolition of all government. And with the idea that government can protect our freedom, property, and contracts without spending any money or taxing anyone.

What a Joker

Lets keep taxing the job creators. At the same time lets just let the government spend our way out of this crisis and keep funding their failed programs.

Profits for the job creators

Profits for the job creators have soared while unemployment has hardly changed.

NOT!

Robin Hood took returned taxes to the people (I like the libertarian version better)

Did I miss something

Or does Biden not look well?

Haven't seen him anywhere in roughly 3 years or so and now he looks so frail.

Karma's a biatch I guess.

Are you serious?

You think that every person/ family that makes over 200K a year owns a business? Use your head moron.

These politicians love to lump people in groups, and thus divide those groups. It's about the individual - not groups. The government shouldn't be attacking one "group" over the next for whatever reason. All individuals should be taxed at an equal percentage.

In the presidential elections. Biden will likely get his butt kicked by Biden, but that does not mean that Romney/Ryan will be a significant improvement.

The truly rich will find a way around it:

They always do. So this is just another blah blah blah because there is an election coming up.

Someone sent this to me. Don't know how valid it is, but it explains my point.

Maryland couldn’t balance its budget last year, so the state tried to close the shortfall by fleecing the wealthy. Politicians in Annapolis created a millionaire tax bracket, raising the top marginal income-tax rate to 6.25%. And because cities such as Baltimore and Bethesda also impose income taxes, the state-local tax rate can go as high as 9.45%. Governor Martin O’Malley, a dedicated class warrior, declared that these richest 0.3% of filers were “willing and able to pay their fair share.” The Baltimore Sun predicted the rich would “grin and bear it.”

One year later, nobody’s grinning. One-third of the millionaires have disappeared from Maryland tax rolls. In 2008 roughly 3,000 million-dollar income tax returns were filed by the end of April. This year there were 2,000, which the state comptroller’s office concedes is a “substantial decline.” On those missing returns, the government collects 6.25% of nothing. Instead of the state coffers gaining the extra $106 million the politicians predicted, millionaires paid $100 million less in taxes than they did last year — even at higher rates.

So, there you have it.

I love my country
I am appalled by my government

There are more millionaires

There are more millionaires per capita in high-tax states like Mass., NY, and CA than there are in no-tax states like Washington, Texas, and FLorida.
