Social Conservatives Just Got Burned. Romney promises no abortion legislation

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Wading into an explosive social issue, Republican Mitt Romney on Tuesday said he would not pursue any abortion-related legislation if elected president.

"There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," he told the Des Moines Register in an interview posted on the newspaper's website.

The former Massachusetts governor said he would instead use an executive order to reinstate the so-called Mexico City policy that bans American aid from funding abortions. President Barack Obama waived the order soon after taking office.

To stop the government funding

is something all conservatives can agree on, whether they are fiscal conservatives, libertarian-oriented conservatives, or social conservatives. If most Republicans or Conservatives had wanted abortion banned outright, Rick Santorum would have done better. Why should this interview be shocking to anyone?

Okay...

...first, the Christian radio station says not to pick the guy cause he belongs to a cult. Then they say to vote for him because he is closer to God's Word than Obama. Now what the heck are they gonna come up with? Or, will they just close their eyes to this latest finding. I would bet they don't even mention it.

Next, it'll be...

"Don't vote so we can send a message to the GOP that we need a REAL conservative in 2016, like Santorum or Jeb Bush."

No Election

Sign me up

I'll vote for a donkey's ass! Sounds better than the other two candidates.

Mormon AND pro-choice?

Now I feel like the straight-ticket Repug hillbillies just won't even bother showing up to the polls.

Willard is still the worst candidate in the history...

of American politics. Way to ensure that voter turnout will now be low among your own base, dumbass! LMAO!

And knowing Willard, the "ROMNEY/RYAN 2012: VOTE FOR US IF YOU LOVE BABY-KILLERS" posters are probably printing as we speak.

But he can beat Obama! (so

But he can beat Obama! (so they say) He could be more "liberal" than Obama, it doesn't matter. They are no better than Obama phone lady. Is it any wonder why most of us are now interested in Voluntaryism?

Is it really a surprise?

Is it really a surprise? Social Conservatives never did anything when they DID control both houses and the presidency. Why would they start now?

Hmmm

It's nothing that pro-lifers don't already know. There's not much in the way of legislation that can do much, as long as Roe vs. Wade stands, except for direct legislation to override the courts, like Ron Paul suggested. Of course, Romney (and 99% of so-called pro-life politicians) doesn't have the guts to do something like that.

Most pro-lifers just delude themselves that if only we keep voting for the "pro-life" politicians, eventually there will be enough judges on the SCOTUS to overturn Roe vs. Wade. I'm pretty sure that, if that were going to happen, it already would have, as the GOP, from 1975 to 2008, got to select 6 judges in a row and 8 out of the last 10.

You are right and wrong

You are right in that he couldn't do much anyhow.

You are wrong in that the average conservative doesn't realize this, so for him to say this is a betrayal. "WHAT!? You're not going to try to legalize abortion!?"

They were told

He was no Conservative. No surprise here.

All the more reason to go 3rd

All the more reason to go 3rd party. Now Romney is more pro-choice than GJ!

Pardon me

while I say I told you so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
