The so-called "Lagarde List" – the name given by the Greek press to a list containing 1,991 names of wealthy, Swiss-bank-account-possessing Greeks who are being investigated for corruption and tax evasion – is causing a major stir in Greece right now.

Since Friday, two men suspected to be on the list have turned up dead in apparent suicides.

to hand it to the Greeks. They're innovators.

I wonder what kind of changes would happen here if a list like that started to circulate.

As if not paying the taxes

As if not paying the taxes the junta depends on to oppress people, and having a bank account in a country at least somewhat civilized, is somehow a bad thing.

Good for them they are making Greece more expensive to "run", and demonstrating to people what dependence on the state apparatus for their personal security leads to, though.

i don't know the full scoop

but if you don't pay your taxes, it's because you don't believe in slavery and thieves.

That type of conviction doesn't sound like it leads to suicide.

If they're wiping themselves out, it's because they know they're wrong and aren't strong enough to face the music.
