'Flash Grenade' burns sleeping 12 year old girl as SWAT team raids home

A 12-year-old girl suffered burns to one side of her body when a flash grenade went off next to her as a police SWAT team raided a West End home Tuesday morning.

"She has first- and second-degree burns down the left side of her body and on her arms," said the girl's mother, Jackie Fasching. "She's got severe pain. Every time I think about it, it brings tears to my eyes."

Medical staff at the scene tended to the girl afterward and then her mother drove her to the hospital, where she was treated and released later that day.

A photo of the girl provided by Fasching to The Gazette shows red and black burns on her side.

Police Chief Rich St. John said the 6 a.m. raid at 2128 Custer Ave., was to execute a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the City-County Special Investigations Unit.

This sounds familiar

Much like a 2006 incident in Phoenix.

They burned down a house and killed a dog in that one.

Further unintended casulties in the continuing War on Drugs.

The cops always act like they are the victims when they are usually causing more danger to innocent citizens.

One of the Presidential Candidates Would End the Drug War

The Feds dole out FRN's to the states to keep it going, so ending it at the federal level (or refusing to prosecute) would be significant.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

$1.2 million for woman burned by flash-bang

OAKLAND, Calif. — The city of Oakland has agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit filed by a woman who suffered third-degree burns when a "flash-bang" grenade thrown by a police officer on the city's SWAT team exploded near her during a raid.

Look at some of the comments by cops. I noticed 2 "what a joke."

One thing that...

One thing that everyone has not considered or addressed is that the flash/bang grenade most likely has caused some degree of permanent hearing loss and or damage to eye sight after going off that close to the children. Have you ever experienced one? It is like a hand grenade simulator with a blinding flash. This is child abuse, aggravated assault and a violation of the 4th amendment. The police response will probably be that someone will get promoted get a metal and this will be swept under the rug. Don't we live in a great society? The criminals are the police and the innocent victims are the citizens. Reminds me of bizarro world from Superman comics. Who is left to arrest the police? Holder?

As I was writing my comment someone beat me to it.

What about her ears and brain?

Having a flash bang land on you can cause a concussion or blown ear drums.

Or do police use a smaller version?

What a shock

What a shock

I wonder if there is a twisted financial incentive. So much activity with a SWAT team gets such and such money from the fed for more equipment?

Just terrible

I sure hope there is some jail time for those responsible. These are the types of people we need in our jails, not the hundreds of thousands of non-violent criminals that are in there for no good reason. This chills and angers me at the same time.

I will eat my hat on youtube

if any SWAT member is held accountable at all for this aggravated assault upon a minor. The police are completely unaccountable. What's going to happen is that the city will be sued and the taxpayers will be held accountable again for the useless criminal police.

sooner or later

they are going to do this to the wrong house. I look forward to the headline that says that someone killed everyone on the swat team. Sooner or later its gonna happen.

disregard this

nevermind i misread your comment - *edited and removed my previous remark*

Yes, I am inclined to think

Yes, I am inclined to think that this is very possible.

There will be someone who happens to have a full arsenal in their house ready to go at a moments notice, whether because they are worried/paranoid or simply because they like collecting the stuff.

Of course, it might not take a full arsenal to do this, someone could just happen to have a .50cal rifle. This thing could probably go through 2-3 people wearing body armor at close range.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Every patriot shoud have a .50

I think the only way

all members of a SWAT team can get whacked is if somebody gets names / badge numbers...

...and home addresses (probably only via computer system hacking).

; )

They're to well-armored to take out "in the moment".

(And THIS will eventually happen, sooner or later... although I dread to imagine what insane laws giving thug police even MORE power/less accountability will result from such an event.)

What would the Founders do?

Who cares...

Any SWAT member invading a house for narcotics deserves whatever they get. The less of these useless taxfeeder criminals on my payroll the better.

The police only have one job to do: To apprehend an individual that has infringed upon another individuals life, liberty, or property. Doing anything but their one and only job makes these individuals just useless overpaid criminals.

They still deserve a trial

But then put them in jail.

I have zero problems with

I have zero problems with individuals defending themselves, their property, their home, and their family against dangerous armed criminal pigs. If those armed criminals invading peoples homes get gunned down I sure won't shed any tears.

The only way things will change will be if the criminal cops are held accountable, be it by the justice system(lol like that will happen) or by individuals defending themselves with deadly force.

Also, when someone in the government is sued

The government employee themselves should have to pay personally out of their own pocket. When the lawsuit damages end up getting paid by taxpayers, then what sort of deterrent or punishment is that?
