Thank you --very well said derrick.

Thank you so much for having the courage to give such a sound logical argument Derrick and putting this powerful badly needed message out. Our returning soldiers if they really want to help the country and their fellow veterans need to stop the wars and the terrible dangerous policy of foreign intervention and entanglements in countries and places that americans truly have no interest in.
It's always some multinational corporation or ngo's that benefit.
The people of Iraq,Afghanistan libya, pakistan, egypt, etc. etc.are not grateful that we came in and unleashed hell upon their land and their people. would we be grateful if china or russia comes to save us from our dictator with their new drones? The american people are not safer today because of all this empire building and warmongering.
Unfortunately another false flag or real blowback allowed to go through is imminent because the world knows we will not stop the insane foreign policy anytime soon.
If suicidal veterans want to give themselves a chance to live free and thrive they need to join us in really pushing back against the people in dc who are constantly trying to get our troops into more bloodspilling war.Push back against people like john Mccain and lindsey graham and their ilk--get these people out of office and get peaceful patriots in there instead to turn this thing around-the stakes are very high if we do not get rid of the immoral inhumane Chickenhawk warmongers. warmongers.
Thanks again derrick and God Bless your efforts.
I hope someday we can get our brave men and women to have the courage to really protect our liberties and challenge the warmongers and warpushers in the cesspool of dc.

"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
Samuel Adams

Travis at the Alamo: The Line-in-the-Sand Question

This young man rightly asks the key question, one we must all ask ourselves: What is it you value so highly that you are willing to fight and possibly die for? When we send our young men and women overseas what do they "sell their lives dearly" for? What do we think we mean by support?

In the film, "The Alamo" (2004) Lt. Col Travis makes this speech:

"I have here pieces of paper, letters from politicians and generals but no indication of when, or if help will arrive. Letters not worth the ink committed to them. I fear that no one is coming. Texas has been a second chance for me. I expect that might be true for many of you as well. It has been a chance not only for land and riches, but also to be a different man. I hope a better one. There have been many ideas brought forth in the past few months of what Texas is, and what it should become. We are not all in agreement. But I'd like to ask each of you what it is you value so highly that you are willing to fight and possibly die for? We will call that Texas. The Mexican army hopes to lure us into attempting escape. Almost anything seems better than remaining in this place, penned up. If, however, we force the enemy to attack, I believe every one of you will prove himself worth ten in return. We will not only show the world what patriots are made of, but we will also deal a crippling blow to the army of Santa Anna. If anyone wishes to depart under the white flag of surrender, you may do so now. You have that right. But if you wish to stay here with me in the Alamo, we will sell our lives dearly."

(This was the speech from this film that took the place of the famous "line in the sand" in so many others.)

Ron Paul Gets His Marching Orders From The U.S. Constitution.

Which expressly forbids foreign interventions.

So, what does this mean?
It means if the U.S. is attacked, he/we will fight the attackers, however do we know if a country was behind 9/11, if so which country?
It wasn't Afghanistan.
It wasn't Iraq.
It wasn't Iran.

So {1} who caused and financed 9/11, and {2} who is benefitting today?

Let me answer # 2 first.

# 2. The worlds "top" bankers are benefitting !

# 1. In my humble opinion, the top secret world's spy agencies are complacent, because they're supposed to prevent sneak attacks.
Which spy agencies work together and share secrets?
M-13 -England. {Tony Blair-A war hawk!}
CIA -USA { Bush/Cheney and most of the bought off U.S.War hawks}
Mossad- Israel {Bent on expanding their domain at all costs !}

Let's follow the Constitution before these expansionists destroy the world in a nuclear war !

Dr. Paul said: "We just marched, we can just march right out"

God, I miss Dr. Paul

Thanks for posting Tom!

A Bring Our Troops Home NOW march on D.C. is long overdue.

http://www.dailypaul.com/257716/a-bring-our-troops-home-now-... BEFORE the election. Thanks to Derrick for this great speech.Very well said.I remember Derrick from the great youtube video titled"Urgent message from our troops.Support Ron Paul"..That video was effective in winning people over when I shared it on facebook. Can't find it on youtube anymore.

I am

anti-war, but I support the Troops! Confused? Though I fail sometimes, I try not to be judgmental. Some joined because they thought they were protecting our country; some were desperate and did it for monetary reasons, some wanted the higher education offered, and I imagine some even did it because they like blowing stuff up, etc.
Anyway, on a related note, there's a lovely (imo) program offered to injured men/women Vets to help them adjust to life back in the states. This program is funded solely by volunteers, donations and contributions. It's called "Horses for Heroes". Here's a link:

What Ron Paul would say to this. DON"T WE?

Now if this doesn’t give one reason to pause and consider the distortions of liberty that have taken place in western civilization, I don’t know what will. Think about it:

Does a free society send government hit men to eliminate anyone they perceive to be an enemy of the state? New NDAA LAW!!

Does a free society have hundreds of police agencies, each with the authority to deprive a man of his life, liberty and property in their sole discretion?

Does a free society have hundreds of thousands of laws, codes, rules, regulations, and policies which effectively criminalize nearly every aspect of one’s existence?

Does a free society lead the world in prison population? 730 people per 100 Thousand, more than STALIN'S!!!!Russia! Really think about this?

Does a free society hunt down criminals and terrorists by treating its citizens like criminals and terrorists?

Does a free society tell its citizens what foods they are / are not allowed to consume?

Does a free society steal your money at gunpoint to buy bombs that they drop by remote control on brown people in faraway lands?

Does a free society debase its currency and plunder the purchasing power of its citizens?

Does a free society saddle unborn generations with obligations they never signed up to bear?

Does a free society award near total control of the economy, the money supply, and everything tied to it, to a tiny elite few?

Does a free society brainwash its citizens into believing that they live in a free society? (at least the Chinese know they’re not free…)

Ask yourself, are you really living in a free society? Are you free? If not, why not? What else could possibly be more important?

It takes courage to answer honestly. But once you realize the truth and begin to see the system for what it is, it can be a liberating and life-changing experience.
Plus our Elections are a JOKE!!!

that is the kind of soldier I would clap for .... thank you sir.

Gary Johnson 2012

I saw this speech

It was very touching and he's right on soooo many issues.

"First rule of Government Spending: Why build one when you can have 2 at twice the price?"
-S.R. Hadden

The only way to be pro-liberty is to oppose the whole apparatus and that includes the troops themselves.
These anti-war troops are a walking contradiction. They chose voluntarily to join an institution that is funded through theft (i.e. taxation) and on a side note for Constitutionalists- is also unconstitutional! The US Constitution does not authorized a standing army, only a navy. The common defence was supposed to be provided by state militias that could only be called up during time of war. If we were to enforce the constitution as it was written by the letter of the law then every service man and woman would be arrested for treason. Forget the wars, those are just the icing on the cake of tyranny, but the mere existence of the troops is both illegal and anti-liberty since they are funded through theft.

"Capitalism is the fullest expression of anarchism, and anarchism is the fullest expression of capitalism." - Murray Rothbard

You can support the troops without supporting the institution..

And you can phrase it in away that doesn't hurt the cause of liberty. Anti-troops is not an appealing message and I'm glad its one not voiced by many.

I think one can support the troops and support moving to a militia based system.

Atricle 1 section 8 allows for congress to raise armies.

Madison himself said the U.S the army should never be more than a quarter the size of its state militias.

The air force naturally is not permitted in there.

I can't say strongly enough

I can't say strongly enough how wrong and dangerous this argument is. I agree wholeheartedly with the video, and am also a veteran of OIF/OEF. My role was somewhat different - evacuating wounded soldiers and civilians of every nationality from wherever they were, to hospitals. I have never regretted saving a single life on either side, host country civilian and American soldiers alike.

Being that the light was already switched on, and I was well aware of the moral dilemma of our wars and interventionism, the above argument would also imply that I would WANT to fail in my job to save the lives of wounded American combatants. That I should walk, not run, to my aircraft when I received a mission. That I should try to ensure my medics were not well trained in their duty to administer first aid. That I should fly slowly and circle a landing zone as long as I can reasonably explain to my boss, because after all: I ought to "oppose the troops."

It saddens me that I see the above argument spreading, or perhaps the few that espouse it are acquiring larger megaphones or spamming their message more frequently. The fact is that to oppose the war is legitimate, but does not entail "opposing the troops" in any meaningful sense beyond simply educating them in their worldview. It's important that we maintain our empathy with our fellow human beings, whoever they are. The problem is not with a lack of character or moral courage on the part of the troops, it is a lack of information and understanding. Many people do not willingly remain ignorant, and our service men/women particularly are proactive in wanting to do right by their neighbor and their country, they simply do not know what they don't know.

The troops themselves are - by and large - not of a mercenary mindset. Many did not join for a paycheck (I certainly did not). In my experience, most joined out of a desire to build their family name, make their parents proud, broaden their experience base, and above all the vast majority truly wish to be able to say "I did that" about something lasting and great for mankind.

It's true that we ought to oppose the ideals that lead our troops to war, and we ought to educate our troops on the facts. Is that a form of “opposition,” or by opposition do we mean violent opposition? Demoralizing opposition? What exactly? By opposing the worldview that leads to war, we are in essence opposing the worldview of the troops, but I don’t get the sense that that is actually what you mean when you say “we must oppose the war AND the troops,” because it would be a merely redundant statement, and an inflammatory one to boot.

ytc's picture

Yes, if & when we have to fight a JUST war of defense,

at our borders or in our cities & towns, every single one of us will eagerly follow the experienced expert troops' direction and fight ourselves! ALL men, women, and even children, will voluntarily step up to defend our land.

Not only will we be "supporting" the troops, we will be DEPENDING on them and vets.

I don't disagree.

I am the speaker in the video.

@danversion1, I don’t know whether you would be surprised to learn that I agree with you. You are making an important point and there is a distinction which I would like to call attention to. In this speech I was neither attempting to make the case for liberty, nor argue on its behalf. I also was not intending to imply that anyone SHOULD support the troops. I was attempting to speak to a very specific and large demographic, which I think is likely to listen to my arguments. As we fight for liberty we all have a demographic which is within our reach based on our personal characteristics. We will each have varying degrees of success in appealing to different races, classes, and types of people. There is a sector of the U.S. population who will not listen to a long-haired hippy war protestor. However, some of the people in that sector WILL listen to a combat veteran. When I speak, I am intentionally targeting the individual who I believe can only be reached by me. Many Ron Paulers can think of a patriotic uncle or other relative who liked many of Ron Paul’s views, but could not get near his noninterventionist foreign policy. Most of these people claim to “support the troops” and see a noninterventionist foreign policy as contrary to that. These are the individuals I aim to persuade. I’m happy to entertain, inspire, or educate others, but that is not my goal. My goal is to persuade your patriotic uncle to reexamine his support for war.

I am not an antiwar troop. I am an antiwar veteran. You are right, to remain an antiwar troop would be a contradiction. In 1999 I chose to voluntarily join an institution that is funded through theft. That institution is the tool used by a government which causes pain and suffering worldwide, making our country LESS safe. Members of that institution accept thanks and congratulations from an adoring citizenry while the personal freedoms they are supposed to protect are stolen from those citizens. In 2008 Dr. Paul opened my eyes and for a short time I was an antiwar troop, but it wasn’t long before I stumbled across Walter Block and Laurence M. Vance. That is when I realized that to remain in the military was a contradiction of the principles I was learning and in the process of adopting, (NAP etc) and I chose to "Walk Away From Omelas."

In my speech, I do not claim that to be pro-liberty you must support the troops, or oppose the wars. I do not speak of liberty at all. As I appeal to everyman’s patriotic uncle, I endeavor to help him see that by his own criteria he should oppose the war. I am not even stating my position concerning the war or the troops. I am adopting his position, and attempting to show him the contradiction built within it. My argument is not that you should support the troops. My argument is not that you should oppose the wars (although you should). My argument is that if you claim to support the troops you CANNOT support the wars.

Here is the clearest way I can put it: If you want to be logically consistent; If you don’t want to be a hypocrite you have a few options.
1) You can OPPOSE the WARS and OPPOSE the TROOPS
2) You can OPPOSE the WARS and SUPPORT the TROOPS
3) You can SUPPORT the WARS and OPPOSE the TROOPS (like Henry Kissinger)

But to SUPPORT the WARS and SUPPORT the TROOPS simultaneously IS NOT AN AVAILABLE OPTION unless you don’t mind being inconsistent.

I oppose the wars for more reasons than I care to list, but my strategy is not to persuade everyone to adopt yours and my views on war. My strategy is to help people see that by their own standards they should oppose the wars. If we gather 100 Americans in a room they should ALL oppose the war in Afghanistan. The only one who can support the war without being a hypocrite is the one who wants war and supports the initiation of force for any reason, and does not deceive himself with claims that he supports the troops. He sees them as pawns.

Thomas Jefferson

warned that to have a standing army during peace time would be our undoing, and even fought the rest of the forefathers on adding that to the constitution. I support the troops as individuals, but I also believe that Jefferson had a good point. The military industrial complex is one of the biggest problems with this country, along with the federal reserve. IMO you can support the troops as people ignoring their uniform, and understanding that they themselves are ignorant of what will be asked of them until they receive their first orders. I hope when TSHTF most of the troops will be able to find their way home and not get abandoned in whatever foreign country they are stationed in at the time.

Mike G.

Thanks for the work you're doing.

I think that was one of the most eye opening speeches I've heard. With that demographic you've in mind.

I agree with you, but unlike danversion1 I think one can support the troops and support moving to a militia based system. I'm from the UK and that's what we out move to when we grow out of imperialism.

I am very glad that you are speaking up with such a

'soldierly' dignified professional deportment and logical clarity! I hope artistically inclined soldiers, who are experiencing despair and numbness, find their own voices as well BEFORE they succumb to suicide.

I just wanted to say again :

that is a FANTASTIC speech you gave to your fellow citizens.

Thank You for this.

We need Country Joe of 21st century. . . to follow this speech:

If and when soldiers find ways to express their anger, despair and frustration in OUTRAGEOUS music and art, perhaps there will be fewer suicides. . . They need to be heard and seen. They will finally have JUST CAUSE to live for.

very refreshing to hear . . .

such words of truth--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Does your sign/sticker/vote say F=== the Troops?

If you display ANY support for either side of the counterfiet coin,
it does.
Even The Honorable Dr. Paul has woken up to this fact.
If you want to climb the mountain of taking over/joining with evil to defeat evil... remember that they eat their own.
Get off that path before you get pushed from the heights to your demise.
You can not defeat evil by joning it in the spirit of decieving it.
Deception is evil, no matter what your good intentions may be.

Jus woke up..
