Best place to buy Silver & Gold?

I've never actually purchased gold or silver...but I figure it's time to start doing so. What is the best website to purchase gold & silver that I can actually have in my hands...and are there certain characteristics i should look for in what i do buy?

any feedback would be very welcomed. thanks in advance.

Want to get my feet wet on gold & silver for sometime now...to diversify from equities funds as well as my recent jump on a precious metals/minerals fund (+27%, a little over 4mos).

I would recommend using www.goldshark.com. It's a cost comparison sie showing which online dealers have the cheapest prices. Be sure to put in the number of coins/bars your looking to buy.

I found a local coin store. That is the best place, but I have bought from provident metals online as well. things seemed to work out well both ways.

Keep an eye open out on craigslist. Coins in particular. Northwest Territorial Mint. Be careful when buying bars.
