Veterans Groups Urge Soldiers To Refuse Anymore Deployments To Afghanistan...

Veterans groups are urging soldiers to refuse combat (in this case specifically JBLM’s 4th Brigade - Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State)

This group of anti-war veterans are using leaflets to try to put an end to the re-re-re-deployment of soldiers from JBLM to Afghanistan.

Without a draft, the only way the war-mongering polticians can keep their little war-profiteering charade going is to deploy the same soldiers over and over - sometimes up to 5 times.

So in an attempt to end the madness, this group of veterans is suggesting soldiers go to any length (including going AWOL), to interrupt this process.

The lives they save may well be their own, as it seems at least a couple soldiers die every day over there.

You signed up...

I am a veteran, so I too was tricked into signing my life away for the lure of a few bucks and a false sense of "patriotism". I served out my enlistment, then got out. WARNING: They will tempt you with $$$$! And no it doesn't make it any better if you get out then work for a government agency. You are still supporting/being supported by the State. The military prays on the poor better than anyone. Be a true patriot and walk away after your enlistment. Until then, you better just keep quiet because they don't want to hear your protest. Choose your battles wisely.

Anarchy is peace, government is war

Support THESE troops.

There is nothing more touching than meeting a Vet who has awakened to what he or she was used for.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

Deployment to Afghanistan will end....

but the drones wont.

Seriously?

At face value, this protest sounds like a terrible idea. I hope any man or woman considering doing this has full understanding of the consequences for themselves, which would be severe.

is it less "severe" to murder innocents for traitors ?

do the lives of innocent women/children EVER cross your mind ?
you MUST be in the fn military.

No...

Fact is, my respect for those who serve compels me to think that the consequences of going AWOL for the individual far outweigh the drop-in-the-bucket effect this would have on the military as a whole. Realistically, is it really worth the court marshal, imprisonment, dishonorable discharge, ruined record, etc?

The better alternative would be to try and effect reform on the mission of our military, which is kind of hard to do from a jail cell.

A Better Idea

Help some 4-star generals develop the moral courage to put an end to the deployments. (They certainly don't have any now).

ugh...

I was stationed at McChord at the time of the joint base integration as an MP. Had to go over to the Lewis side a bunch to do extra security here and there on their flightline.

Seriously effed up stuff on both sides of that base AF and Army.

As someone who was in the

As someone who was in the USAF for 20 years, when you join the military, you voluntarily give up several rights. This is the way the military operates. You can't have a military if it's members can pick and choose what orders to follow. However, no one has to follow an unlawful order. Military members fall under a different set of laws--The UCMJ.

But they DO take an oath to uphold the Constitution.

From all enemies foreign AND domsetic.

I'll bet these soldiers could make a case that the "war" in Afghanistan is NOT Constitutional and could refuse orders on those grounds.

Just a thought...

Under the United States Constitution, which all military people take an oath to protect and defend from all enemies foreign and domestic, is it constitutional for the UN, NATO and the Arab League to send our military into war zones without a declaration of war by congress?

Seems to me a good lawyer could make a case

that they agreed to DEFEND the US and since they now only risk their lives fighting agressive non-defensive police actions or securing resources for multi-national corporations...the contract could be voided.

Probably not...but the govt steals from us, kills us citizens with impunity, etc...you would THINK we could figure out a way to stop having our men ordered to kill on command for the criminals who have usurped our Govt.

Someone has got to figure out a legal way for to stop funding the crooks too.

This really doesn't hold water

Every single member of that unit has either enlisted or re-enlisted while these wars were going on. Not one was drafted, not one came in during peace time(scary as that may seem).

The real answer is for our children to stop joining. Then they would have to draft -then people would wake up.

Stop Loss

Does the Stop Loss program hold soldiers past their dates?
I am not sure about this, have read this in a couple places some time back.

Hoping you can add some clarity to this.

Thank you

Liberty = Responsibility

Yes it can

Happened to a freind of mine back during the Macedonia deployments.

Cool

But can the soldiers urge the veterans not to fake disability that drains taxpayers pocket? If both could earn their living on their own in private sector, that would be awesome.

Yes Refuse

refuse deployment to middle east, don't let the zionists and saudi monarchy use your as a disposable. this is not for America its for the corporations, bankers and defense contractors, if you don't stand up now, they will keep you living in the desert for the rest of your life.

Excellent comment "Individualism" - You're one who "gets it"

The zionists and saudi monarchy indeed are using American soldiers as as disposables.

I discourage anyone from enlisting until we go back toa DEFENSIVE military - not the present day OFFENSIVE one.

What about the people who

What about the people who have woken up while in 'service' because the service itself woke them up?

The comments after the article

are certainly discouraging. I thought people had awakened a little more than that.

Reminds me of the Universal Soldier...

...which Dr. Paul has spoken of in the past.

Wherein if every soldier put down their weapons and refused to fight, the elite war-profiteers would be out of luck.

Seriously. Don't commit suicide! We need you, soldiers,

to defend OUR, and your, LIBERTY. Freedom to LIVE your own lives. Go AWOL, or do whatever you have to do, to LIVE for us.
