My final decision: Gary Johnson for President of the United States

After weeks of arguing with myself on whether to write-in Ron Paul or vote for Gary Johnson, I came to a decision I can live with.

Since I wanted my vote to count (in WA State), and since I wanted to send a message to the 2-party strangle-hold on the American political process, I concluded a vote for the Libertarians was the best option.

But in one last attempt to vote for Dr. Paul, I spoke with Washington State's Secretary of State office to see how they handle write-ins.

Even if a candidate registers here (which Dr. Paul didn't do), they will not even look at write-in names unless they feel they might affect the outcome of the election.

And even if they DO count them, they won't publish the actual names unless a write-in candidate were to miraculously win.

As much as I wanted to write in Dr. Paul, I felt it was more important to support a viable candidate, who was on the ballot in the most states, and who I liked well enough to vote for.

We all know Gary Johnson is not Ron Paul (but then who IS other than Dr. Paul himself?!).

But Johnson has said on more than than one occasion that his hero is Ron Paul (he said it again in the 3rd party dabates).

There is no doubt that the Libertarian Party would have welcomed Dr. Paul with open arms as their candidate.

Top that off with Ron having stated recently that Gary Johnson is a "wonderful candidate who everyone should take a look at."

So in the end, I felt the very best use of my vote (even after years of supporting the Ron Paul campaign with my money, time and effort), was to choose Gary Johnson.

Ever since seeing all the cheating done by the republicans this entire campaign season, I have promised that "I'll Remember In November" and remember I did.

Therefore...

Gary Johnson 2012!!!

He is entitled to be worried about campaign debt.

There are no odds on any bets riding on this election, right?

Though I prefer Ron Paul, my vote is now for Gary Johnson. I like showing Newt Gingrich he's wrong when he says "They'll come around and vote for Romney." Let those cheaters whine and blame us. It will be music to my ears. He he. Those of you who are feeling down, listen to the Ron Paul/Lew Rockwell discussion topic. Dr. Paul is so upbeat, positive, and relaxed it helps pick up my lagging spirits.

Free Thought, in this election ...

a vote for Johnson will be a vote for Obama. I'd prefer Johnson to be at the top of the ticket, but he's not, so we have to choose between the lesser of 2 evils. At least Romney is American and we know him. Obama is a shady character that we know little to nothing about, and what we've seen of him already is contrary to everything Paul believes. While Romney is far from perfect at least the country will continue until Rand decides to run for president. I have no such certainty that the US will still be here if Obama is re-elected. I think we are living in the most dangerous time since this country's inception; even more than during WWII. At least during WWII the Nazi's were still in Germany. But now, the Nazis are residing right in our country and the liberals are the embodiment of the Nazis - same mindset, same totalitarianism. I don't want our country to break out in another revolution. I believe we can nip that in the bud if we unite to keep Obama from getting re-elected.

Anamandy - With all due respect...

In my opinion, no true Ron Paul supporter could ever vote for Romney.

Because philosophically, Romney is not even on the same planet as Ron Paul.

In addition, a vote for Romney also sanctions anti-liberty rats like Michael Medved, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Karl Rove, John Gibson, John McCain, Joe Lieberman, Lyndsey Graham, Dick Morris, Dick Cheney, Bush 1, Bush 2, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Bremer, Paul Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol, Fred Barnes etc.

I could never support any candidate who these lying, war-mongering rats support.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I concur.

Same here in Arizona

I voted for Gary Johnson also -- here in AZ, there are same rules about "not counting" write-in candidates, unless they have officially been made "write-in candidates" by the State of Arizona... therefore my vote for Dr Paul would have never been counted- much less made public. I had no real option but to vote for Gary Johnson-- I simply want the world to see how many of us are seriously ready to move on from our 2-party corruption machine.

Add me to the "voting for GJ" list

Though there's still a chance I'll change my mind and write in Ron Paul. But those are my 2 options. I will NOT be voting for Obamney Rombama.

GJ

If Gary gets enough votes maybe they will pay more attention to the liberty movement

GJ

As much as I want to write in Ron Paul, he's out. So I to support GJ. This race is close and the republicans deserve to lose. They said Ron Paul could not win they were wrong because Mitt is awful and can not win. It makes me so sick and sad what has been done to this republic.
God help us.

G.J. knows he can't win.

But if he gets 5% of the vote the Libertarian party will get funding and be allowed to be at the debates in 2016. Just think where Dr. Paul would be right now had the Lib. party been treated fairly. I'm voting for G.J. for the cause of liberty

"Give me liberty or give me death" Patrick Henry

Yeah 5% of taxpayer money

Isn't that sweet.

Don't judge so hastily

I have been coming to this site for 5 years. Even tho I am a daily reader, I'm sure there was a 9month period in there where I didn't post a comment. I'd still expect my view not to be trashed just because I'm not a heavy commenter.

5 percent is pretty good for

5 percent is pretty good for a third party candidate and it will definitely give the libertarian party funding.

Do you know where that funding comes from?

Presidential Vote

Cast my ballot for Gary Johnson in Wheeling West Virginia today. As a die hard Paul supporter, I felt it best to vote for a candidate that shared most of RP's values and is on the ballot in all 50 states. I could never vote for Obamney in good conscience knowing how much innocent blood they have or could have on their hands. Both warmongering murderers owned by AIPAC.Hopefully GJ garners enough votes to free up federal dollars for our cause.

Jack Rose

Gary Johnson could appoint Dr. Paul to be.....

Secretary of the Treasury or Secretary of the State. That WON'T happen if Gary Johnson doesn't win. Writing-in Ron Paul for president guarantees it won't happen.

So, for what it's worth, although Gary Johnson will most likely not win, I'd rather vote for a man that would give my man a position of power and influence than vote for my man and he still have no power.

You GJ people are walking contradictions

If you know he won't win, then voting for him isn't going to give him power. What you REALLY mean to say is... "Voting for him in a high enough percentages will give the Libertarian party taxpayers money and them power and influence so that they can squander it on the next Bob Barr"

There.. I fixed it for you.

RP hasn't exactly been squeeky clean either lately

What with the neoconning of Campaign For Liberty and the shenanigans of people like Jesse Benton who he's had running the show. We're all doing the best we can to fight for liberty in whatever avenues we see. All people like you do is help the bad guys fight against us.

Actually, that's exactly what I think a vote for Gary Johnson is

doing.. Helping the other team win.

By the way.. a sure sign of a Ron Paul closet hater is to bring him in the argument and dirty his name when nobody has brought him up.

Politicians should stand on their own two feet. I rarely ever mention Ron Paul against another candidate and then only if it's relative. I base my arguments on the person of "interest", their "accomplishments" and their faults, against the Founding Fathers intent.

Johnson fails on his own merit.

you know I've been wanting to know why Libertarians would

think like this too. Like getting government money to run the campaign was free or something. And picking a guy because he kinda sorta is like Ron Paul but who is HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in debt with his campaign, is IN A LAWSUIT SUING THE GOVERNMENT. And his biggest claim to fame for the folks not familiar with him in the least is that he went CROWD SURFING at some small rally somewhere. oh yeah...and he has said (and its on youtube) HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN AGENDA 21.
