My final decision: Gary Johnson for President of the United States

After weeks of arguing with myself on whether to write-in Ron Paul or vote for Gary Johnson, I came to a decision I can live with.

Since I wanted my vote to count (in WA State), and since I wanted to send a message to the 2-party strangle-hold on the American political process, I concluded a vote for the Libertarians was the best option.

But in one last attempt to vote for Dr. Paul, I spoke with Washington State's Secretary of State office to see how they handle write-ins.

Even if a candidate registers here (which Dr. Paul didn't do), they will not even look at write-in names unless they feel they might affect the outcome of the election.

And even if they DO count them, they won't publish the actual names unless a write-in candidate were to miraculously win.

As much as I wanted to write in Dr. Paul, I felt it was more important to support a viable candidate, who was on the ballot in the most states, and who I liked well enough to vote for.

We all know Gary Johnson is not Ron Paul (but then who IS other than Dr. Paul himself?!).

But Johnson has said on more than than one occasion that his hero is Ron Paul (he said it again in the 3rd party dabates).

There is no doubt that the Libertarian Party would have welcomed Dr. Paul with open arms as their candidate.

Top that off with Ron having stated recently that Gary Johnson is a "wonderful candidate who everyone should take a look at."

So in the end, I felt the very best use of my vote (even after years of supporting the Ron Paul campaign with my money, time and effort), was to choose Gary Johnson.

Ever since seeing all the cheating done by the republicans this entire campaign season, I have promised that "I'll Remember In November" and remember I did.

Therefore...

Gary Johnson 2012!!!

I hadn't heard about Gary's

I hadn't heard about Gary's being in debt. What I do know(among other positive traits)is that Gary Johnson is against going to war in Iran. The more people who vote for him, the stronger the message will be that WE DO NOT WANT THESE WARS!! Seriously, even Johnson knows he won't win. Let's get the message across big and also break the two party system. A few month's ago, it irritated me to hear about Johnson on this site. Now I'm going to vote for him and feel good about it.

He's not against war...

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution, inevitable.

It goes right over their heads I guess.

I stated earlier today that I thought the LP had been taken over by Beltway Libs just like the Neocons took over the RNC and I firmly believe that.

many here don't understand the LP platform so when people say these odd things like "We need federally matching funds".. it kind of goes unnoticed. Same goes for the other many positions this guy has that isn't Libertarian.

Got to disagree rp4pres. We are not interested in taxpayer...

...money going to political parties. IT SHOULD BE BANNED.

It's utterly criminal that ANY political party gets federal matching funds for their conventions.

How did this ever come to be?

A true Libertarian would fight that issue and reverse it.

Maybe even a Constitutional Amendment to disallow federal money from going to any political party which are PRIVATE organizations.

George Washington warned against political parties from the very beginning.

We didn't heed his warning and thus are in the shape we're in today.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Fuck that, if the Neocons and the Socialists are getting gov't $

Then we need to get our chunk to. What you guys are advocating is similar to the people who say that Ayn Rand & Ron Paul shouldn't collect social security after paying into for years for the sake of ideological purity. That we should basically be self-defeating martyrs for our cause and not be practical or ever think of strategy at all, while Team Statist out-maneuver and outsmart us on every level. To Hell with that.

Oh I see where you were going..

Well, I've talked with MANY on here and read many more comments from others that we're for it.

I know they shouldn't be for it but they were. As matter of fact, you're the only one to condemn taking the money.

What are you getting at rp4pres??? First of all I explained...

...to you that federal matching funds have nothing to do with my support for Johnson.

But you seem to want to ignore my thoughts on that.

I would hope that if federal matching funds were ever offered to the Libertarian Party that they would return the money to the government in front of the National Press Club where they could TEACH the country this goes on.

In fact if the Libertarian Party were to accept such funds I'd be gone.

You seem to have a lot of criticism without any ideas.

What are YOU going to do? Not vote at all? Or vote for Obamany?

Why don't you reveal your own plans before chopping down everyone else's ideas here.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Has something changed?

I thought that the matching funds came from that one thing on the income tax form that is voluntary. A little check box that asks if the tax payer wants to add $3 to the fund. If this is still the case, then this money was not stolen from anyone (in theory) and should be legitimate source of funds (probobly the only legit source of funds in the Federal goverment) for running a political campaign.

Do the funds come from any other source other than this?

I don't know. It's a fair question.

Nevertheless, even if it DOES all come from contributions, then why don't ALL political parties get funding?

Why just the 2 monstrous ones?

The money should be distributed to any party on the ballots of a minimum number of states. (ie 40 states or any other number agreed upon).

How is it that these 2 monopoly parties get all the money?

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I've revealed my plans almost every day since I got on this site

It's to vote for Ron Paul.. If you haven't seen it...

And you hope... Geez you're being naive.

You have to disagree with what?

I was never for Federally Matched Funds...but I hear from "Libertarians" all day long that we need to further the "Libertarian" Party by way of voting for Johnson so we can get 5% and the funds that go with it.

My state (Virginia) does not count write-ins either, SO I WILL

also vote for the honorable Governor Gary Johnson as well. Gov. Johnson said at the debate Tuesday night " A wasted vote is voting for someone you don't believe in." In my opinion , since all men are fallen , Gov. Johnson is not the lesser of two evils, but the least of six or more. I am content to cast my vote for Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party. Thank YOU FreeandEqual.org for the debate forum which helped to make up my mind.

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

In Texas

As much as I want to vote straight libertarian to send a strong message to Democrats and Republicans, I think I have to write-in Ron Paul, the guy has changed my whole perspective on life. For the rest of my ballot I will vote straight libertarian. Screw the 2 party system, let there be competition in politics, and vote on principle!

"It’s not pessimistic, brother, because this is the blues. We are blues people. The blues aren’t pessimistic. We’re prisoners of hope but we tell the truth and the truth is dark. That’s different."

You could screw the two-party system more if you vote...

for a third-party candidate that will have his votes counted. You could write-in Adolph Hitler and it will have the same effect as writing-in Ron Paul. I know that sounds crazy but that is the system.

If some how Gary Johnson won, Ron Paul would surely be given a position of power and influence within his administration.

I'm a libertarian and crossed party lines to support Ron Paul. I was welcomed with open arms. Now, when we ask for your support, you stubbornly turn your back.

Our cause is not one man. Our cause is Liberty.

If you can't support us today, don't look for ours in the future.

Lastly, Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian for president in 88'.

I hear you

and I have been struggling with this, but do you realize how many Republican sheeple there are in Texas that will go out to vote Nobama, and because they haven't heard of Gary Johnson (because they are too busy watching football game repeats and high-fiving each other) they will surely vote Mitt Romney.

I recently had a 3 day battle/discussion

with a Johnson supporter. The person actually took the time to try and debunk the marketticker.com article that has been posted recently by ebrawl and then myself.

At first before he dug real deep he tried to make out that it was a growing and aging population that was the culprit for an almost doubling of New Mexico's debt/spending...but... once he got into looking at it he found that infrastructure was the largest increase.. still didn't explain the increase even after you combined that and healthcare...

Of course I asked him to trace the infrastructure spending to see who it went to but he never replied.. Looks like some very large contracts went to Gary's business and into his pocket.

I'd say that's pretty shitty. I know many of you GJ apologists won't think so of course.

Marketticker.com is a domain name for sell....

I can't find the article you speak of. Provide a link and we'll research it.

It's actually market-ticker.org.

but I say pearls before swine. Go look for it yourself.

OK...I tried to look for it...

The site is very amateurish. I can't find a link to register.

I guess if you're going to throw accusations out there without linking a source and then tell people to go look for it speaks for itself.

Have a good day. Next.

All you're looking for is trouble so I'm not going to waste my

time.. I've already seen some of your looking at proof.

Pearls before swine, one more time.

I stood with Ron Paul in 08,

I stood with Ron Paul in 08, and I stood with him and all of the wonderful delegates in Tampa. I will stand with Gary Johnson, and all of our liberty-Republicans running for office in November, and I will stand with Rand Paul in 2016.

Will you stand with me?

Thanks for the Front Page.

I certainly didn't expect that!

It was a pleasant surprise and I appreciate all the great comments from my fellow DailyPaulers. Even the ones who disagree with me.

I still feel comfortable with my decision - not ecstatic - but comfortable.

Even after vowing for months on end to write-in Dr. Paul.

In the end I would rather send a message (which will actually have to be counted and reported) than to do what my heart wanted and have it never seen or even tallied.

The RNC tactics in Tampa pushed me over the edge and the GOP deserves everything it gets if their HACK NOMINEE LOSES.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

At least we hope it gets

At least we hope it gets counted and reported.I really don't have much trust in that at all, after what I have seen with the corrupted voting machines.

I had planned on NOT voting at all...but,

I've changed my mind and will sanction this corrupt process ONE LAST TIME! I've got a 22 year old daughter and maybe by some miracle if GJ gets a large chunk of votes...change will come in her lifetime.

I'd feel better if Ron Paul would reccommed that I vote for GJ. I'm now an anarchist and voting at all goes against what I feel like I should do (which is just ignore the damn criminal institution) but,...I now feel like GJ has gotten enough attention that maybe, just maybe, my vote will make a tiny difference.

I guess I'm thinking...what can it hurt? But, NO MORE after this!

GO GJ! PEACE! :)

I will be throwing my vote away

on GJ as well. I live in Ohio. I want to defeat Rmoney and let the chips fall where they may.

i believe i saw a poll with

i believe i saw a poll with GJ at 10% in ohio, so you're not alone! If he gets significantly more than the gap between Romney and Obama(in a key swing state), it'll send a HUGE statement to both the parties.

Just imagine Gary picking up

Just imagine Gary picking up 10% nationally... That would give both D's and R's fits.
