Where do I get good silver... that's not counterfeit.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a place to get pure silver?

I'm afraid I'm going to get jiped-off with counterfeit, or diluted silver.

Anyone known any dealers and/or suggestions?

I have bought from...

I have bought from Gainesvillecoins.com they have a very good reputation, no sales pressure, very happy to answer any and all questions.I have no complaints. Stay with US mint coins, don't buy novelty, cutesy coins. Do your research and compare all things involved, availability, shipping, ins. You will get a better price for 100 oz bar, but you can sell coins in smaller units.Get the total price to get it to your door. Using a bank transfer is cheaper than credit card. Good luck, happy shopping!

Nice variety of choice.

Tip 1: prefer money orders over credit card/bank transfers

Tip 2: it's a good time to buy right now before the election

One of the positives of

One of the positives of silver, as well as gold, is that it can't be counterfeited. If it's counterfeit, it ain't silver/gold.

You can either buy directly from the company (Catalog), or you can bid on metals others are selling (Nucleo Exchange). You can also sell through the Nucleo Exchange.

Decent margins, never any problem with delivery.

[These three tests are not absolutely determinative, but they are quick ways to help you gauge the purity of your “silver” if you do not have a digital scale readily available or do not want use silver acid testing. Of course, they are especially useful if you have a piece of silver you know is pure and you are using it against a not sure pure “silver” coin or bar that has a highly imitative look and feel of silver.]

LOCALLY - help out your local economy

The easiest way to remove fraud is by doing it "belly 2 belly" style and in person. If a local shop is selling fake silver there is something that can be done about it locally AND as you buy REAL silver from your local shop it will help them and inturn your local economy.

How do you test the silver

How do you test the silver your getting is real? It must be even tougher to determine if it's diluted.

Any thoughts?

Wieghts and measures

It's all about the "weights and measures". Metals are measured in "grains". Weigh it. All you need is a set of scales that measures in grains. Digital scales that measure various weights are available. They vary in price. I use a set of powder scales that I also use for reloading shotgun shells.

I've always wondered if it's just a coincidence that precious metals and black powder are both measured in grains?

If you are afraid

of counterfit, best go with constitutional silver dimes, qtrs, halves, and dollar pieces.

I was hoping to get some bars.

I don't bother with bars

for many reasons, but your best bet is a local coin shop.
