Libertarian Presidential Duo of Gary Johnson & Jim Gray Plot 2016 White House Run

No matter the results of the Nov. 6 election, the Libertarian presidential campaign duo of Gary Johnson and Jim Gray, the retired Orange County superior court judge, plan to run again for the White House in 2016.

Gray, Johnson's vice presidential running mate, told a crowd this month at Tulane University that the two men have already decided a second run--next time with plenty of planning--is critical to break the stranglehold the two major political parties exercise over failed foreign and domestic policies.

Calling President Barack Obama and Democrats "financially irresponsible" and Mitt Romney and Republicans "socially intolerant," Gray predicted voters will warm to Libertarian ideas as a route to escape present day "bipolar politics."

After being locked out of the four presidential and vice presidential debates, Johnson--a former popular Republican governor of New Mexico and outspoken advocate of reducing the size and power of the federal government--won six percent of the vote in a recent national poll.

And what if Dr.Paul runs again?

Who will you "Libertarians" vote for then?

I don't need reminding..

I keep watch on what he does.

You seem to want to say though that he isn't running for congress so he won't run in 2016. You could no more know that than you could many of the things you say about Gary.

To the question though.. You never answered it.

Six percent or better!

That would be a great step forward.

I like it

Two years ago, I saw Rand Paul and Peter Schiff as the guys to 'carry the libertarian torch' after Ron Paul in national electoral politics. Both were running for the Senate, and both are relatively youthful and good communicators with a national profile and following.

I think Gary Johnson is now a third pillar.

We all saw how much more brightly Ron Paul shined in the two debates Johnson attended, and the establishment saw it too, as they quickly dispensed with Johnson. I'd like nothing more than Rand and Johnson running as Republicans in 2016. They'd enhance each other's status and the liberty message. I'd like to see Schiff run for the Senate again (and win, as he laid some groundwork two years ago), but if he wanted to toss his hat in the presidential ring (is his national stature any less prominent than Herman Cain's was?), the more the merrier.

If none of them gets the nomination (clearly Rand is in the most favorable position to actually pull it off), then hopefully one would seek the LP nod and continue the enlightenment.

I think we've got some horses at the gate.

I'm really impressed with Judge Jim Gray as well.

He will bring brilliant tenacity for liberty cause in whatever capacity he runs.

As am I, but...

...I was speaking to the ability of Johnson to actually get a spot on the Republican primary debate stage, and keep it.

With Johnson's record and, now, higher profile, he will poll high enough where the establishment will not be able to exclude him in four years.

Gray's isn't nearly as well known.

I'm ashamed to say I knew

I'm ashamed to say I knew nothing of Judge Gray until six months ago but I've come to know a bit about him and he really is a true supporter of the liberty movement and just a really sincere good man

I dont know...

what they hope to accomplish- clearly we all want some voice to make the case for small-l libertarianism. But what if Rand Paul, Jesse Ventura, or another up-and-comer choses to run? Ron Paul was already running in 2012, and Johnson threw his hat in the ring anyway. Noone was interested in his election within the Republican Party, so he dropped out and went LP, even when Dr. Paul was still running hard for the nomination. As we all saw, Johnson's people were swarming the web trying to flip Paul supporters before the nomination had even been lost!

Now he's out front already proclaiming for 2016? I just dont like it. GJ is completely uninspiring on the stump, and while he's got a pretty good record and a decent story, he's not going to rise any higher in popularity than he is now. Being pro-choice and all, where are all those disaffected Democrats who would otherwise be libertarians?

I wonder if he'd even beat out the other third party candidates, if it weren't for better the LP's ballot access and Paul supporters.

No One Knows Exactly What It Will Take to Break the Monopoly

Challengers do not get paid for running. A candidate who is not a member of a monopoly party usually has to pay for everything himself and is usually doomed to lose.

That is why I give these guys high marks for taking the initiative to continue the campaign for the next four years.

The should go straight to Libertarian Party this time and not waste money on the GOP debates.

For These Guys, Yes

I think that Gary Johnson is fed up with the Republicans and I do see him trying to get back in. We will also have one or more liberty candidates in the Republican debates. These different candidates will keep the liberty message in public view.

Judge Nap 2016

would be more of a unifier like Dr. Paul, don't you think?

That could happen

If Johnson gets 5% of the popular vote or more, the LP will have the same ballot access and qualify for the same benefits as the R and D parties. You will not believe the candidates who will line up to run for the LP nomination if that happens. Judge Nap was overheard saying if Johnson gets double-digits that he would consider running for the LP nomination himself (he is a member). And he wouldn't be the only one who would consider testing the idea. Jesse Ventura could reconsider his independent run and seek the LP nomination. We could find ourselves in 2015 with not one or two, but a dozen of the biggest figures in the movement, crisscrossing the country campaigning for liberty and debating each other at the state conventions. Imagine it. Johnson, Judge Napolitano, Judge Gray, Ventura, Tom Woods, Chuck Baldwin, TMOT, and who knows who else may jump on board, each gathering their supporters and competing for delegates, bringing all those forces together at the LP national convention. The possibilities are very exciting.

Judge Nap would be appointed to SCOTUS

LP will have $90 million for the 2016 run if it get 5% this Nov. 6th.

It will be really deflating...

...to me if the best the Liberty movement can muster in 2016 is another GJ run. I think Judge Nap would spark interest more quickly and across a broader spectrum.

President Napolitano and Treasury Sec./Fed Chairman Paul? :)

GJ/Judge Nap ticket would be awesome

no question about it.
