Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein arrested in Texas

Published: 31 October, 2012, 22:00

Jill Stein, a presidential candidate from the Green Party, has been arrested in Texas while attempting to resupply protesters camping out in trees to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline, according to anti-pipeline activists.

The Tar Sands Blockade activists said she was released soon after being taken to the Wood County jail in Quitman, TX.

“Dr. Jill Stein has been released from Wood County Jail on a Class B Misdemeanor Criminal Trespass charge,” they said on their website.

I do not think she is nuts but just ignorant on some key issues.

Being a doctor she must of been very busy and had not much time to fully delve into everything. Compare RP at least he had considerable time in both arenas. ie. public and private and judicial/legislative

Well, shes a known nut

But ill say that she at least will go out there and sit with her fellow unemployed environmental statists, trying to make the people (whos property they are trespassing on) lose their jobs as well.

Well, I guess I really dont have respect for her. Ive probably have spent more time cleaning up beaches and picking up trash (usually left by these paid "protesters") than her and her minions combined. I say this as a fisherman and conservationist-"environmentalists" hurt the cause of environmental stewardship. In fact, I'll say that those "EVUL" oil and gas companies care many times more about being a good steward of the environment than the paid losers in tents mentioned in the above article.

I'm sorry, she's nuts

She still doesn't know that global warming is an invention of the club of rome. How did she get there? Did she walk? God gave us energy. All these wars are to stop the flow of oil. Patch off Lousiana coast is bigger than all the oil fields in the middle east. I agree with this issue as far as property rights go. I believe in domestic energy. But Jill Stein and global warming? Move on lady and have a nice long hike.

Global warming's an observed reality, the real invention

is that of various industries to use PR and our shoddy media to convince people that global warming is actually disputed. People listen to Fox and hear an industry-paid PR blurb about how the "science is still out" (pro tip: it isn't) on the matter, but those same people are often taught to be extremely wary of science, and by extension, all empirical research, so such misconceptions could never be corrected by actual scientists. Many people listen only to talking heads, and never obtain science news without that filter.

The industry PR push to deceive people on global warming over the last couple decades has exceeded expectations, mostly because the media are not doing their job to educate people.

So that is justification for

So that is justification for unconstitutional seizures by the EPA (Sacketts v. EPA), the carbon credit scam, globalization of the united states and the banning of free market economy?

How many houses does Al Gore own? How about the global elite who all support global warming? They sure don't seem to believe in their own science.

I could just as easily make a post like yours pointing out the fallacies and beliefs of people who watch MSNBC and CNN because they do everything you post about, "you better believe in global warming or you are an ignorant republican derrrr derrrr derrr."

Don't strawman me, I didn't address any of those things

You should keep your frustration on those matters from clouding your judgment on a matter of science. You don't need to believe me now; time will corroborate what I'm telling you.

American media overall except for stuff GE owns address global warming very little. CNN only started talking about it due to Sandy; otherwise it's a topic very little touched upon.

"Matter of

"Matter of Science"

I actually do not own a television nor watch online news. You made a lot of TV based assumptions in your post so I thought I'd make a few of my own to show how weak of an argument you had.

Southern Agrarian

I don't watch TV news, either

The things I said about global warming are known to the scientific community. What TV says doesn't matter. You'll see in time.

kudos to walking the talk,

kudos to walking the talk, ill give her that.

she will not change America

Gary Johnson will not save america either. Only the people taking action will save this once great country.

Update. I see what you were referring to now. Sorry if I was to harsh before.

she is doing a great work waking-up/educating people and I actually did spread her message using my Twitter account @libertypoet

How can those who

support property rights be for the Keystone pipeline? The govt taking away peoples' land without just compensation not for public use, but for a private company? I probably only agree with Stein on 5% of things, and this is one of them. The pipeline will give people jobs for a little while, but once it is complete, most will have to look for work elsewhere. Also, the oil is not going to be sold to US consumers (the US exports a lot of oil already, US demand has declined in recent years as well.) This pipeline is solely for China so they does not have to propel their oil tankers all the way up to Alaska / Canada, and instead cut the trip dramatically by picking their oil up at Texas.

"cut the trip dramatically"????

I don't know what planet you are from, but Alaska is a lot closer to China than Texas is...just the straight line distance alone is double of that to Alaska; not to mention that you have to go through the Panama canal to get there.

And you have 2 other people commenting on your comment without even mentioning this? That's government schooling for you!

^^^^^THIS +10,000 internets

Thank you soooo much for mentioning this before I got involved, lol. Theres a pipeline that runs the length of Alaska...but people are saying that the Canadian oil companies would rather build a pipeline all the way to Gulf States before they would build one to Vancouver, because their supposed real intent is to ship the oil across the pacific to china?!?!? This makes no logical sense at all. The pipeline that needed approval from the Feds was the portion that ended in Oklahoma, which is where nearly every other major US pipeline either begins or ends (its the epicenter of American pipelines due to the large number of refineries nearby).

Yes you are right,

it is right across the Atlantic. However, right now there is no way to get Canada's oil to China efficiently and cheaply or quickly for that matter. In order to do so, they would have to build a pipeline over mountainous terrain which would be more expensive for both China and Canada (as China has invested billions into Canadian oil companies.) Canada is basically landlocked when it comes to oil which is why USA is their main buyer (at 97%.) They want to diversify their sales, China being the main buyer after the US, and they wanted to do this via the Keystone pipeline.

I have gone to a public school and they had us learn geography in the 6th grade, and then never followed up again.lol

Yikes, your geography is

Yikes, your geography is really bad. China is across the Pacific from North America not the Atlantic (that would get you to Europe/Africa). I don't mean to be ugly, but if you don't know the difference between the Pacific/Atlantic oceans or don't realize that Alaska is closer to China than Texas; then I doubt you've got much good information on the access of Canadian oil companies to their pacific coastline. I've been up there once and know for a fact the have some very large and developed interstates leading out to Vancouver. I see no reason they can't get oil piped there, and if so, it's not much further out of their straight or bay into the Pacific. Cruise lines do it all the time.

Yes right below Mongolia / Russia and right behind Japan, AU is it's own country and continent and is south of the equator, Lybia is part of Africa, and Russia is the largest country on Earth, and Chili lies just east of Argentina south of Peru and east of them is the south pacific. The Atlantic is to the east of the USA between USA and EU. I do know the difference, it is just that I had a really long do yesterday, not only did I have to much to drink, the trick-or-treaters didn't stop coming till 11 pm. And right now, the only way China can pick up Canadian oil (which they don't right now) is through the pipeline that leads to Alaska, which has nothing to do with Canada's oil-sands. For the most part, when it comes to Canada's oil, they are largely land-locked, China would be fine picking it up from Alaska but it would cost them more money and time (More $ because they have $16 billion invested into Canada's oilsands companies, & would have to build a pipeline over mountainous terrain, and more time because it would take longer to build than going strait to Texas to be refined and shipped in the Gulf of Mexico.)

Long story short, Don't post under the influence.

Building a pipeline is fine as long it is on private property and government isn't involved in subsidizing or eminent domain.

It is an enormous simplification to speak of the American mind. Every American has his own mind.

I agree

Most people don't know that the pipeline will end in an 'international free trade zone' in Houston and will be tax exempt and shipped directly overseas.

Keystone XL is bad for America! We need more refineries which the oil companies refuse to build so they can keep their stranglehold on the American family and our economy.
