Political Class Dismissed - Endorsement: Write In Ron Paul for PresidentSubmitted by sailingaway on Thu, 11/01/2012 - 00:10
"Up until today, I was planning a lukewarm endorsement of Gary Johnson. I have voted for the LP candidate for President since 1976 when I was a liberal Democrat. Up until 2004, the LP always nominated a libertarian including some fine men who I was privileged to know including Dave Bergland, Ron Paul and Harry Browne. In 2008, the LP decided to go pragmatic and nominate a fellow traveler. The tactic failed. They did the same this year with Gary Johnson.
Now, believe it or not, I’m a pragmatist on strategy and tactics so I’m open to a big tent approach and was willing to overlook some departures from doctrine. The straw that broke the camel’s back was FEMA. Romney’s hedging on FEMA was a great chance for Johnson to get some traction at the end. My prior efforts to infuse some creativity into the boring Johnson campaign failed but I’m a rather stubborn person. So I googled the issue, assuming that Johnson was once again asleep at the switch and had failed to notice the opportunity to blast the liberal big government progressive hollow man.
I was right in a sense. In fact, Gary Johnson himself endorsed FEMA, a horrendous agency that has no constitutional basis and whose main function is to stop private sector rescue efforts after storms and disasters. I, myself, have blasted FEMA so that was that. The dalliance is over."
